I've used Servpro twice in the past week due to a leak and another time when my roof leaked. I made the mistake of choosing Tri State for my most recent leak in the kitchen, and I deeply regret not hiring Servpro again. While moving my stove to pull up the flooring underneath, they damaged the oven door, causing it to come out of its socket and leaving an irreparable scratch on the stove. Instead of taking their time to properly move it they pulled the oven door to pull it out and caused damage. They had run the drying machines for two and a half days, and when they came to check the machines on the second day, I explained that the equipment kept moving around and wasn't staying in place. Unfortunately, they didn't change anything; in the past, Servpro had used something underneath their machines to prevent that issue, but Tri State brushed me off and didn't address it. When they returned to remove the machines, I noticed a strong odor that persisted for a few days. I called and emailed them, but it took almost a week for someone to return my call. When they finally did come back, they dismissed my concerns and pretended the smell didn't exist. However, two professional contractors who came in after that did notice it. I also saw pictures of them using a dirty mop that clearly wasn't new; they used it to barely wipe the floors underneath. Their only resolution was to charge me extra to return and put a fan in place. Meanwhile, they received a payment of $3,500 from my insurance for what amounted to very little effective work. I strongly advise against using Tri State. They are not focused on the customer and cannot be trusted to properly handle your damage. read more

My experience with this company was extremely disappointing and added significant stress to an already difficult situation. During a time when I was dealing with a personal loss, I felt that their pricing was excessive and not clearly justified. I received frequent and persistent calls regarding a large outstanding balance, which felt more like pressure than support. This ongoing contact only added to the strain rather than helping resolve the situation constructively. Subject: Seriously Overpriced and Dishonest Billing Practices We hired this company to clean a very small bathroom that had a minor sewage backup (dirty water never rose above one centimeter - one eighth of an inch- and was present for only a couple of hours). Wanting to be cautious, we decided to bring in professionals to ensure it was handled properly. That was our mistake. The cleaning itself was done adequately, and the staff on site were courteous. However, the billing practices were unacceptable. We were quoted $2,500 over the phone, which already seemed steep for such a small area. The crew arrived during regular business hours on a Friday, worked for a couple of hours, left equipment, and returned briefly twice to check it. Despite this, the final invoice included: 14.5 hours of "technician supervision", on top of already itemized charges for cleaning per square foot, drywall removal, and product use. Charges for services never performed, including cleaning doors, windows, the washer/dryer, and the furnace. "After-hours" charges and transport fees without any explanation. Equipment rental fees totaling nearly $1,500, for equipment they left onsite. In the end, we were billed over $7,500--three times the original quote. When questioned, the company simply stated that "the quote may vary," as if a 200% increase is reasonable. Our insurance claims adjuster confirmed this company is not on their approved list, noting that they've seen similar overcharging behavior from them in the past. Had water pipe burst in townhome I rent out in Alexandria, VA, caused leak in ceiling. Plumber recommended this company. I was dealing with everything from out of state. Pros: They came out the next day to do inspection. They did not say mold remediation was necessary, just water remediation (mold is much more expensive). Given that I am out of state & the property is tenant occupied, I was at their mercy- whatever they said, I basically had to do- so I was afraid that they would have said "you need our MAX services" no matter how little actually had to be done, the fact that they didn't gives them credibility. Cons: (1) All communication was done in front of tenant, instead of in private- some communication/approvals was even exclusively with tenant, technician didn't even call me, the owner! Mold/water in a rental is a delicate issue- and can be a legal landmine. I wanted to do everything necessary to make property safe asap, but also needed to be realistic in what was necessary & what is not. Technicians speculating to tenant what "could be done" (i.e. "replace ALL DUCTING IN HOUSE") was not appropriate and only caused tenants to question whether I was doing everything necessary. When they came to finally collect equipment (one day later than they were supposed to), technican decided the area was not sufficiently dry, and ASKED TENANT for approval to leave equipment for 3 more days (which she gave) WITHOUT CALLING FOR MY APPROVAL, I only found out when tenant told me. I would not have approved this if I was given option- IN PRIVATE (i.e. not in front of tenant). (My contractor had taken moisture readings day before & was comfortable proceeding with drywalling.) Leaving the equipment there not only racked up rental equipment fees ($212/day for what they had there), but also required me to push back my drywaller, and extended the period of time the tenants were not paying rent (agreement was they would not pay rent for period while repair was being performed). Technicians should have stepped outside, called me, given their recommendation and asked what I would to do. (2) It then took over 2 weeks to get final bill. I called 4 times during that period requesting bill (in order to submit to insurance). This would not be so bizarre if they had not already given me 'flat rate' after first estimate (and I gave 50% deposit). If it is a flat rate, why is bill not autogenerated? **To their credit- upon my 4th call (and complaint) the owner took up my file & had bill to me within 1 hr of our conversation, and also made adjustments to the costs due to the fact that the technician did not get my approval to extend equipment rental. read more

My Lutheran cousins in MN taught kids how to build houses--I know about the building trades. But i came to the DC area to be an NSA mathematician and i am not very handy--my 2 sons got background from high school and a college work program so that when they took my circular saw and said daddy let me to do it so you do not lose a finger i did not object. But i did quite a bit of plumbing and knew about sump pumps and installed one and got F H Furr to replace mine with a good one. My knees went when i was 65 and i was the an economist and could afford to not play plumber. Osmin looked at my hyper flooded basement and said i need a Restoration firm so we got on the phone and contacted TRi-state. Team one pumped the cellar out with a high powered pump and then used a specialized instrument (i cost $8-00). They had left the 2 parts in my back porch on my back porch and i did find it but they were in such a hurry to move to the next job. I am not a sweetheart like Laura P. I had 2 instrument set in my house but i told them they had to do something that would take one minute or i would not let house. They were so diligent in getting to the next job they balked the supervisor did something i could not do having to do with the next stage of clean up that they relented. The only non plumbing in the cellar worth anything was a Mountain bike my late wife had given me. So they pulled the bike out of the cellar and i gave them the instrument set. The only person i feared more than the wrath of God was my wife's wrath. (a Joke) Fear of the Lord is the wrath of my wife. She would consider the 3 folks who gave low reviews ignorant. I would agree--many low star reviews come from folks who are very ignorant. S.O. calling Tri State a horrible company is insulting to WSSC one of the best run regulatory agencies in the tri state area they actually use retired plumbers to do the inspections. I am helping my pastor of my church find a general contractor because of my knowledge. Enough said as i am practicing to be half as good a person as my sainted wife. The next stage where they clean out the cellar mess took 10 hours they bagged and removed about one ton of oxidized (the prior crew had rescued all my useful tools. They did not take a break for lunch but they went to a shopping center to call the central office to get permission to work the extra hours--the cellphone batteries had given out. The bags the team filled were picked up the next morning as promised. My first job at NSA i night as well have been in the military except i got paid more --these days with a professional military they are paid more than i was. I made 100K in real terms but my pension and special NSA medical plan are available only to Congress and staff. ONLY TRISTATE is competent to drain a swamp and they are as cost effective as when i did a study that projected the US economy our for 50 years. Dealing with this disaster relief company was, well, a disaster. First of all they are not customer service friendly as was indicative by their refusal to invoice for over 3 months. Finally when the invoice arrive it was completely different than the original quote being almost double. The work performed was acceptable but their workers who barely spoke English could not seem to understand what the issue was so obviously they could not properly complete the task they arrived to accomplish. I was out of the country when I had to find someone to take care of a sewage backup in the basement. This was the company suggested by my overpriced plumber, but then I had little choice in the matter. They probably did an OK job on the cleanup, but they tore a hole in one of my antique rugs and the amount they charged for cleanup was 3 times what my insurance company expected. The pictures they took of the cleanup were blurry and a joke. They also had the wrong number of rugs listed on their loss limitations form. In addition, they also billed me for double my deductible and didn't send the bill until 3 MONTHS later. They do not answer the phone or emails and are impossible to contact. Terrible company. Never mentioned when they would come back to check the progress of their fans and humidifiers, just showed up even on weekends unannounced. Insinuated that they would be doing all the work....nope. I question any company that uses them as their remediation worker. I am speaking of FH Furr. Boy what a disappointment with FH Furr. Don't believe the 100% satisfaction guarantee that they say they give you. Ruin your home because they negligently didn't connect a pvc tube. So water freely flowed down wall and unto floor for weeks. Then they use Tri State for water remediation damage. What a sham! Do insurance companies ever pay out enough to complete an appraised job? I had a main sewer line backed up near my home, and it resulted in my house being flooded on June 5th. WSSC assigned the cleanup and restoration to this horrible company. It's now two month and I still can't get a correct inventory list. The employee did not properly list all items that they CLEARLY took images of items tossed because they were contaminated. I had to painfully list the items the miss and referenced the images they provided me with. To this day, I keep getting the run-around by the Assistant Service Manager Stephanie M. that claims she'll circle back around with "Alan" the tech that provided the services. I have to constantly call or email to get an answer otherwise she will forget to call back with answers. She's given me all sorts of excuses for the delays in getting back to me, from understaff, funerals, etc. Seriously? How unprofessional is that. I'm just a customer, if you are understaff, HIRE MORE PEOPLE. If someone attended a funeral, sorry for your loss but that's still not an excuse to not get back to me in over a week?! I keep asking for the "manager" and Stephanie M. insists she is the manager. I told her that her email's clearly state the title of ASSISTANT Service Manager but she swears it's a mistake. SURE... ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, would highly recommend to stay away from this company. I cannot file a reimbursement for items lost because of Tristates unprofessional way to file an accurate inventory list. THEY TOOK IMAGES OF THE ITEMS THAT WERE CLEARLY CONTAMINATED AND CLEARLY STATE THEY TOSSED. Yet they failed to HAND WRITE these items on the inventory list. And for some reason they don't know how this happened. I'm providing them with evidence of pictures THEY took and yet they need to get back to me? To clarify based on the Business Owners Comments/Response below. I did not bully your staff. I was pretty understanding and patient up until over a month after the incident. If you call "bullying" because I'm sending emails and calling asking for an update as to when I can receive and updated list, they so beat it. But most of those emails were polite until it got to the point that I was receiving so many excuses. 1. Yes, I asked items that were cleaned to be tossed anyway. I have a series of health issues and I did not want to bring items back into the house because nothing is guaranteed. Even Alan agreed with my request because I'm diabetic, my to had an opened wound and got infected because of the contaminated water. Because of my diabetes and being allergic to penicillin and sulfa, common infections are hard for me to fight off with limited options for antibiotics. So in those cases, I chose to remove many items that despite being cleaned, I did not want to take a risk and get sick again months later. I don't think that is an unreasonable request! 2. The items I'm talking about in my email are items they tossed that night, took pictures and yet they failed to include them in your inventory list. That is YOUR techs fault, he took pictures but failed to list them on your inventory list. I provided him with a correct list AND referencing HIS images as proof he tossed that night. This is the reason why I started getting upset. I provided your company a clear list of items that were missing from your inventory list but provided image file names as proof they were tossed the night of the incident. 3. Alan tossed all of my belonging that he cleaned on top of my bed (and some items that didn't need to be because they were not contaminated). My issue with that was why they couldn't put a plastic cover over the mattress/bed before you pile on stuff? There was a comforter inside a plastic bag on the floor. Water got in and contaminated the comforter because the plastic bag has a zipper. Water goes through the zipper. He tossed that item on top of my bed. That is why I call your company unprofessional. Mistakes can happen, but if the mattress was covered with plastic, then that wouldn't be an issue that it contaminated the bed. In addition there was a pair of boots that were on a shoerack but I splashed water on them when I ran in to get my cat out of the house. Unfortunately they did not know that and thought it was not contaminated and for that I understand. BUT again, if you would have covered my bed with plastic, those boots would not have contaminated my mattress! I was NOT present that night because I became ill. THAT is the reason why I'm calling your company UNPROFESSIONAL and would NOT recommend to anyone. I know things can be missed, I completely understand that. But after I provided the information a month later I continued to get the run around from your company was unprofessional. What else is a customer suppose to do? I provided you with information you needed to update the list. So before you go around saying I'm the bully and that it's my fault, you should really take the opportunity the story straight. read more

This is now the only thing holding up my claim--and subsequently the check from my insurance so I can start repairing from the flood. They were courteous, professional, and responsive to my millions of questions. From their office personnel to their field crew, everyone was very patient and helpful. Their crew arrived, quickly assessed the situation and created a game plan. Everything was explained to me in detail. They gave me an adequate explanation for each of my questions. They even went as far as filing my insurance claim for me...one less thing for me to worry about. My neighbor had a main pipe break in her house, and it resulted in my house being flooded. WSSC recommended Gaithersburg Plumbing, who said I needed a restoration company, not a plumber, and they recommended Tri-State. I called them Saturday morning, and they were at my home within 2 hours. There were two men on the team, one of whom spoke pretty good English, the other one who either can't or chose not to. They showed me the tool they use to determine if flooring has to be ripped up, and did have to remove the carpet and padding in one room, but only baseboards in the other. I had moved some furniture out of the room where the carpet had to come up, but as they tried to move a bookcase (nearly emptied of books), it started to come apart and I am so glad I was watching b/c they weren't paying any attention to it and would have broken it if I hadn't stopped them. Once they got all the flooring up, etc., they set up several fans and two dehumidifiers. It sounded like a 747 was taking off from my first floor. :-( I realize it's necessary, but it was SO overstimulating! They said they would come back in 72 hours and would test the floors for moisture. It was a holiday weekend, but the guy said "the office" would call me to set up a time. I didn't hear from anyone by 10am, Tue, so I called them. The receptionist seemed taken aback that I was expecting them, so she put Victor (? Vincent?) on the phone. He also seemed surprised, but then he said a team would be in my neighborhood b/t 12 and 2pm., so they would come then. At 1:00 the office called me again to say the team was coming closer to 2:00. At 3, I called them and was told the team was in Alexandria, but would be here by 4. Several more calls, and I turned off the fans myself at 6pm, and the team FINALLY showed up at 7:30pm! I was NOT HAPPY! They tested for moisture and called it all clear, so removed the fans and dehumidifiers. It's now a week later and my insurance company has not been billed. Must be nice to run a business where it isn't important if you get paid or not. read more

The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing at this company. I was billed and paid it all (or so I thought). About two weeks later they informed that there was another bill. I told them we gave all the insurance money to them. A rep said he would be in touch with the insurance company to get the rest of the money. Then the harassing phone calls started. The secretary kept calling and asking for the money. I cannot even count the number of times we were called. I informed the secretary that one of their reps was in touch with the insurance company and was getting the money. Then a different person at their company called asking for the money. I sent emails to the rep asking for the secretary to stop calling. Then we got a threat of a collection agency being used. I emailed back and told them I would contact the BBB and the attorney general if they did that. Shortly after this, we were notified by the insurance company that TriSate had received their money. I did not hear from Tristate. I even asked, by email, if they had anything to say before I wrote a review. No response. Does this sound like a company that cares? Called TriState Restorations because their website specifically says that they could remove ice dams from roofs. The fellow who took the call specifically told me they could do that work. But then he started talking about correcting any wall damage that might have resulted from the ice dam causing water to come into the house. He asked whether I would be putting the claim through on insurance and said that if I did all I would have to pay at the time of service was my deductible. I said I did not know if that would be necessary because there did not appear to be much damage - I just needed the ice dam removed asap. When his fellows came out they exited the truck with crowbars in hand but no ladder as I expected for roof work. When I asked if they were going to remove the ice dam they acted like they had never heard of such a thing. They asked to see it and when I asked that they go around back to where it was, they were very rude and insisted on walking through my house with their wet dirty boots - three of them, as if not just one would have been enough. I had to ask numerous times for them not to stand on my expensive oriental rugs with their wet dirty books and they just became ruder and ruder, especially after I showed them the ice dam I wanted removed and confirmed that I did not want them touching my walls. They said they did not do that work turned around, stomped through the house to the front door in their wet dirty boots and left. When I called the company to complain, the woman apologized that "I was confused by their website". Their website is very clear, and it says they remove ice dams. But their work/insurance scam seems to be clear as well. They just wanted to knock down my walls, charge a lot for it, have me pay just the deductible and then collect who knows how much from the insurance company. Do not employ this company. This was the most unscrupulous company I have ever dealt with in terms of over charging, poor relations with insurance companies and continual threats. When they serviced my basement, they indicated they would work with the insurance company and would accept the insurance company's settlement plus the $500 deductible. They ended up charging me double the insurance company's settlement. The insurance company said their charges far exceeded the industry standard. I still attempted to get my insurance company to reconsider the bill, and it turns out the insurance company informed them months before in writing how to make a new claim but they didn't adher to it. Then they put me in the middle with the insurance company. Instead of responding to my final letter, and respecting my efforts to get this resolved, they referred my case to collections without the most basic courtsey to inform me and even at the higher price that they had revised downward. They cannot be trusted. read more
