A few weeks ago, I noticed a burning smell in my basement and followed it to the electrical closet. I spoke to Greg on the phone about the issue and he was very professional and honest of what he could and could not do about the elusive issue. Most importantly, he did not use any scare tactics. Unfortunately, he had a client that day so my husband found another company to come to diagnose the issue. After opening and thoroughly examining the electrical box, the person could not find the problem and recommended an escalation to perform a full diagnosis, which would be nearly $500. I called Greg and he talked to me out of my panic. He also recommended a solution to test for the source myself. Later that day, my husband and I took Greg's advice and we were able to narrow it down to our home security system. The first time was to install a whole-house surge protector, connect a new electrical connection from the outdoor overhead electrical lines down to our meter in the basement and move the electric meter from the inside of our house to the outside front wall of our 2-story rowhouse (an additional fire protection upgrade). A week later, they returned to do some finishing safety-focused touches that were difficult to integrate into the first visit. Specifically, they: - rewired a single outlet in the living room with older wiring that was apparently missed in the 1980's when the house underwent a comprehensive electrical upgrade. The upgrade included adding AFCI circuit protection and running a new circuit from the panel - added GFCI protection and replaced faulty tandem switches in basement for washer and dryer - added GFCI protection and replaced faulty tandem switches in 2nd floor bathroom to remediate faulty functioning of heat lamp and fan - replaced existing two 3-way switches for upstairs hallway and and one in bathroom - AFCI circuit protection for the Homeline circuit panel Terell and Jordan appeared to have done an excellent job. Their teamwork, professionalism and obvious technical knowledge, experience with older houses and confidence was, like in their first visit (but moreso), obvious and appreciated. Terell in particular has a great touch with the client, exuding confidence, a great sense of humor and a desire to provide superior service to the client. He and Jordan make a great team. The two of them powered through the entire job in less than 3 hours (versus the 4 + estimated time to complete). As far as cost, the entire job, including the cost to obtain and coordinate post-job City of Philadelphia permits, came in at a very reasonable $1,000. Perhaps because we'd already sunk several times that into the first, more significant upgrade a week earlier, several items on the bill were discounted. Given the hours of highly skilled labor by the team, a couple fairly expensive equipment items and the fact that (pending City inspections) a fully modernized electrical system, I'm satisfied with the value Gen 3 provided on these two jobs. My overall experience (including a conversation with Amy about the Gen3 maintenance plan which I am definitely getting after satisfactory City inspections) was a 5+ stars. Highly recommended. Electrical Contractor, over $10K…read more I usually don't write reviews. I've only written two in the past 15 years. I've only written reviews if a contractor or vendor service was so poor, or their ethics so horrible they deserve a horrendous write up. This time - a first - I'm writing about the other side: a contractor whose services were great: Brad Brown and his team - the electrical contractor we used for our major kitchen renovation. I had used Brad for a few small jobs around my house and he did fine: good work, prompt service and fair prices. I called Brad and he quoted a range of costs depending on what was uncovered as the work progressed. He started the day after I approved the quote. The fast service was appreciated - and sorely needed as our first electrician pulled out suddenly and everything in our renovation had ground to a halt. It was smart of Brad to recommend he first install a separate sub-panel in the basement just to serve the kitchen electrics. In hindsight it turned out to be a brilliant idea as all the wire runs from the new panel were shorter, and now the electric panel was clean, easily accessible, easy to visualize and a pleasure to work with at any future date. Smart. All the circuitry was now very clean. Wires were run straight and parallel to the joists - something no other electrician (or plumber) ever did. Wires were intelligently ordered and clearly marked. All lighting, outlets and specialty wiring holes were cut with precision - you know, measure twice and cut once. One electrician cut the hole and a helper held a vacuum under the cut to contain the dust and debris. Never saw anyone else do that - and it was certainly appreciated. All work was neat. A thorough clean up of the premises was conducted at the end of each day. Brad and his A-Team showed up early, took a brief lunch if at all, and left late - to knock the job out in the fastest possible time. It was amazing. The nature of electrical work when interfacing with a General Contractor is to work around the GC's team in the order that the job calls for. While it must be a juggling nightmare for electricians to schedule this, it didn't seem to be a problem: as the contractor scheduled him in Brad came himself or sent his team. His staff was always polite, helpful, and positive. I don't need a lot of hand holding, but hearing "we can do this no problem" facing some of the more difficult runs was reassuring. Now that the job is over I've had a chance to examine the work, Brad Brown's Team remains amazing. The sub-panel is sharp and precise. Wires are run in a logical order. Labels that make sense - and I can read, understand and know where they go. The circuitry layout is great, clearly marked and all the wiring lines have been laid out in straight runs. Future work will be easy. My house is over 125 years old and I've had a lot of work performed over time. So I've dealt with a lot of contractors. This has been a particularly good experience. I called ITech and spoke to Tony. His calm demeanor and reassurance on the phone was comforting. He gave me the choice of waiting for Monday to do the repairs, or pay the additional emergency charge and have them come out right away. I opted for the right away and was glad I did. Tony plus two others arrived around 4PM and by 7PM everything was replaced and back to normal.
