I had a general contractor install an interrupter for a floodlight and he had trouble getting it to work and suggested I contact an electrician. So I found Greg and he came out and fixed the interrupter and in addition he brought my breaker panel up to code. Greg was very knowledgeable and communicative throughout the visit. He replied within an hour to let me know I was out of service area. Greg is the BEST. When I first bought my house, Greg helped me with a few jobs when I first moved in, such as installing the dryer vent safely. He also helped me troubleshoot an electrical issue (a few of the circuits in my house were shorting out). Half our house lost power and our outdoor AC won't turn on. I called Greg and he was able to help us diagnose our issue over the phone by texting him some pictures of our circuit breaker. When we removed the panel, we discovered half of the hot lines had water damage! When I was looking for an electrician to do a full house rewire/knob and tube removal, I must have contacted 10+ electricians in Philadelphia. Most didn't even get back to me, or barely wrote a complete sentence in reply. This review is late but just a couple of quick comments about Greg and his work. Back in July, I called Greg on a whim while looking up electricians on a Google search. From the moment I called and spoke with him and explained the work we needed completed, I genuinely liked him. He was very knowledgeable. I used Greg Avakian twice, but didn't join Yelp until now, so I'm giving one review. The first time, he added a dedicated line for my home office, to run my computers from. I loved the fact that he colored coded the plates, which makes it easy to remember which four outlets are for computers, and which 8 are for general usage (yes... this is a real office in my home). The work was performed in a timely manner, everything promised was delivered, and the room was immaculate when he was done (rarely seen by other contractors). I was so happy, than when we made the decision to upgrade our service and replace the electrical panel, the choice of which contractor to use was simple - Greg. This was a much more complex job, and again Greg shone. The work was completed on budget, in the time frame promised, and perfectly done. The garage was cleaner than when he came in - which was a nice bonus :) I very strongly recommend Greg Avakian for any electrical needs. He was professional, courteous, polite, and an absolute pleasure to deal with. He answered every question we had, providing very clear and understandable explanations. This was probably the first time I dealt with a contractor who was so incredibly NICE to work with. I found Greg on Yelp and decided to contact him due to all the 5 stars reviews. I needed a technician to fix a circuit breaker issue that my tenants are experiencing in one of my rental units in Philly. Greg responded immediately and offered to pay an initial visit to assess the circuit problem. I work in NYC so I couldn't be present during his first visit, but Greg informed me that he's used to coordinating with tenants directly. Greg coordinated the visit without my involvement (which was great) and figured out the issue right away. Greg, in plain English, explained the problem to me over the phone and presented me with a few options in a later email (with a recommendation on what's the practical and right fix). I love Greg's transparency during the entire process (how he works, his pricing and scope of work) and his accessibility (via phone, text or email). His end product is very thorough and clean. I even threw in a side job at him that wasn't part of the original scope (switch out an old outdoor light with a new one with photocell). All in all, the job was done perfectly from start to finish. What I value is his timely responses and accessibility. Being a landlord, the most important thing I value from any service provider is reliability and dependability. Greg has that.
