If I had an electrical issue, I would trust Greg to provide a fair and honest assessment. Full disclosure, I only spoke to Greg on the phone for a consultation because our schedule did not align and I needed someone to come out urgently. A few weeks ago, I noticed a burning smell in my basement and followed it to the electrical closet. I spoke to Greg on the phone about the issue and he was very professional and honest of what he could and could not do about the elusive issue. Most importantly, he did not use any scare tactics. Unfortunately, he had a client that day so my husband found another company to come to diagnose the issue. After opening and thoroughly examining the electrical box, the person could not find the problem and recommended an escalation to perform a full diagnosis, which would be nearly $500. I called Greg and he talked to me out of my panic. He also recommended a solution to test for the source myself. Later that day, my husband and I took Greg's advice and we were able to narrow it down to our home security system. Having an electrical issue is always scary, but I am grateful to find someone like Greg who is honest, and actually goes out of his way to educate his customers. read more

Greg answered my call immediately and was very generous in recommending detailed troubleshooting techniques and a general assessment of potential causes of my issue even though he did not have immediate availability to address my issue in person. He recommended a trusted colleague and invited me to reach back out if I had any further questions or concerns. I'll keep his number handy for future reference, and would recommend Greg to you for your electrician needs. read more

Greg took time out of his day to help troubleshoot and give advice on an issue that has been plaguing me for weeks. He was honest, kind, and extremely helpful. Although he isn't able to physically come help this time around, I will keep his phone number and only call Greg for electrical service in the future. People like him make the world a better place. Thank you Greg! read more

It turns out that I'm out of Greg's range of services. However, after having explained my needs, he gave me detailed advice as to how to go about seeking service elsewhere. I really appreciated Greg taking the time out of his day to do that, and I think it reflects great character in wanting to help someone regardless was to whether or not taking on a job. Thank you! read more

He supported a friend in their time of need and transition. Great service! I recommend

I rarely leave Yelp reviews, but Greg's electrical work and customer service were so excellent that I had to share. We're new homeowners of a flip and been having some issues with easily tripped breakers and an office that had all the outlets connected to the light switch. Greg was highly communicative, clear about the work he wanted to try to fix our electrical issues, and didn't take advantage of our lack of experience with such things. He also provided his valuable services and expertise at an easily affordable price. I cannot recommend him enough. If anything comes up in the future, he'll be our first call. read more

Wow! Greg doesn't service my area, (Yelp's fault for the map error-not his) but he was AMAZINGLY generous with his time and gave some very helpful over-the-phone trouble shooting and recommendations. Just told my husband Greg's recommendations and he responded with, "HIRE HIM!". Even though I had to spend 10 minutes explaining to the Hubby that we are out of Greg's area, lol we agreed that will definitely use his company for another property we have. Above and beyond is an understatement! read more

As others have noted, he is very generous with his time and advice. Although he does not service my area (Fishtown), I would work with him in a heartbeat in his areas of West and South Philly. read more

Greg responded promptly to my problem. While he does not service my area, he offered me "free" advice as to how I could proceed. Much appreciated! read more

Greg responded to email for a quote very quickly, and although I was out of his service area, he took the time to give a very detailed response. He explained what I should be looking out for when I eventually discussed the job with my electrician and highlighted some other potential issues with the total cost. Very helpful. read more

Greg was amazing. Super professional and super courteous. I had two burnt out outlets and I wanted to make sure there was no underlying issue with the electrical. Greg was happy to explain to me anything that was going on and explain in detail what he was doing and what he was installing. Great overall experience. read more

Greg answered my Yelp quote request quickly, and walked me through what I needed to do to fix my breaker over message. No need for him to come and no cost to me! I am so grateful and impressed and looking forward to hiring him for future projects. Thank you so much for your help! read more

Greg is an incredible electrician specifically and human being generally. My wife and I go to Greg for all of our electrical needs whenever we can. He is patient, knowledgeable, and runs his trade with a level of honesty and integrity that is hard to find. By way of example, Greg recently helped us in a situation (over the weekend no less), then told us it wasn't a big deal and we should donate to a good cause instead. Amazing. I don't know the first thing about electricity, so it's such a relief to work with someone so honest and upstanding as Greg! read more

I had a general contractor install an interrupter for a floodlight and he had trouble getting it to work and suggested I contact an electrician. So I found Greg and he came out and fixed the interrupter and in addition he brought my breaker panel up to code. Greg was very knowledgeable and communicative throughout the visit. It's clear he takes pride in his work and his prices are very reasonable. The only downside with Greg is that he's in such high demand. I will definitely be calling him again for any electrical work. read more

Despite being a frequent Yelp user, this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review. I contacted Greg via Yelp's generic "request a quote" link. He replied within an hour to let me know I was out of service area. He could have simply ignored the request or replied with one quick sentence, but instead he wrote a several paragraph reply with: ideas of what could be causing the problems, links to helpful resources, and detailed, step-by-step instructions on troubleshooting both projects. He also shared his cell phone number in case I had any questions or issues. Who does that?! Who takes the time to write a long message full of free advice to someone he knows will give him zero business. I am simply blown away by his kindness and intend to recommend him to my friends that live in his service area. read more

Greg is the BEST. When I first bought my house, Greg helped me with a few jobs when I first moved in, such as installing the dryer vent safely. He also helped me troubleshoot an electrical issue (a few of the circuits in my house were shorting out). Greg not only helped me fix the issues in my house but he helped me understand what was going on so that I could troubleshoot problems on my own in the future. He takes the time to fully explain things and imparts a great deal of knowledge which is super empowering as a first-time home owner. To find a contractor who takes the time to teach clients how to be more self-sufficient is amazing! read more

Half our house lost power and our outdoor AC won't turn on. I called Greg and he was able to help us diagnose our issue over the phone by texting him some pictures of our circuit breaker. When we removed the panel, we discovered half of the hot lines had water damage! Unfortunately realized we live outside of Greg's service area so he could not come help fix this issue himself but he referred us to two other electricians in our area who we will reach out to. Even though we couldn't hire Greg, he helped us quickly identify the issue and provided us with lots of helpful info. We would definitely recommend Greg to a friend - he seems like a wonderful electrician! read more

I actually didn't even end up using Greg because i am not in his area where he services. But he was kind of enough to reply to my message and inquiry with his thoughts, and even included a synopsis of the issue. As he mentioned, he served as a "helpful neighbor" when he had no obligation to do so, and i am grateful for people like Greg whenever i need to work with a contractor. i have faith even though i did not use him that he will be a good contractor to work with read more

Integrity, helpful, and honest. What more could you look for with a craftsman? While I am out of his work area, Greg was kind enough to supply in-depth information about my electrical issues. I learned more in the 30 minutes reading the articles he put together about my concerns, then hours I've spent on Google. Information that will empower me when dealing with a future electrician. It's refreshing to find someone who wants to really help people, not just make a buck. Thanks for your assistance Greg, on a Sunday night no less. read more

Greg was not able to service my property because it was too far but he actually took the time and asked me to explain what's going on and gave me some great advice and what I should expect to pay. Stand up guy, not many guys like this left in the contracting world. read more

I am leaving 5 starts for how responsive and respectful Mr. Avakian was to my inquiry. His service area is extremely limited; basically only West Philadelphia and immediately adjacent neighborhoods. (I live in Philadelphia, but approximately 20-25 minutes away in the Northwest.) He promptly and pleasantly responded to me, and I would have been very interested in hiring him if he was available. Thanks! read more

Let me first say that I have never used Greg Avakian for my electrical work so this review is based entirely on the communication I had with him when I was looking for an electrician for a problem at a rental property. Greg couldn't do the work at the time however, he was the only electrician that even got back to me. Then, he went well beyond what I would have expected in trying to help me out with information on what might be the problem. It seems to me that it is rare to run into someone that will go to the lengths Greg went to and for no personal gain. Great guy who truly seems to enjoy what he is doing. I will call him the next time I need an electrician! read more

When I was looking for an electrician to do a full house rewire/knob and tube removal, I must have contacted 10+ electricians in Philadelphia. Most didn't even get back to me, or barely wrote a complete sentence in reply. Greg wasn't available to do the work I needed, but not only did he get back to me, he also provided detailed information and advice tailored to my situation. He sent me several informational articles (that he had written himself) about knob and tube and related issues. He also answered several follow-up questions that I had. And he suggested another electrical company to me, which I ended up hiring (and they did a great job!). I've also seen Greg on social media, generously offering substantial free advice to other people who were having electrical problems, without asking for anything in return or engaging in self-promotion. He seems extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his trade and genuinely interested in helping people even when there is no financial gain for him. I would've hired him in a heartbeat if he had been available when I needed electrical work, and I would not hesitate to hire him if I need other work done in the future. read more

I called Greg to see if he would be interested in giving me a quote for my project. Unfortunately, Greg was booked and unable to come out in my time frame. He did however ask me to send him photos of my project and talked me through each detailed step I need to take. He even told me to call him back with any questions. What an incredibly nice guy. Customer service like this is non-existent in this era. Thanks again!!! read more

I have been calling around looking for a qualified electrician in my area. I found Greg after Googling. Although he doesn't service my area, he took time to talk to me. It felt like speaking with someone who takes on a fiduciary responsibility for clients! This was striking and such a pleasant experience. These days, it seems next to impossible to find someone skilled, with the ability to communicate well, without trying to rob you blind by upcharging, etc. Greg chatted with me like a person who wants the best for their friend, hence why fiduciary comes to mind! I got all of my questions answered and feel encouraged that there is hope for humanity. He seems like a great person and THE most skilled electrician. If you are reading this and find that he services your area, I strongly encourage you to book an appointment with him. Thank you, Greg. read more

Greg is the only electrician that I use now! He is knowledgeable, explains the problem and his proposed solution carefully. He is a great communicator and his work is of the highest quality. I have had him replace my electric meter (major job!) and install a floodlight/camera system. He is up to date on the latest electric codes, so everything is done just right. His work is high-quality and I will recommend him to anyone who's looking for an electrician! When I had him install my floodlight/camera system, I had to wait a few months before he could come out, but I was happy to wait. He's that good! read more

I contacted Greg for a quote on repairing the electrical supply to an expensive appliance that was constantly shorting out. Even though I live outside of his service area, he was incredibly helpful. He explained how I could fix the issue on my own, very affordably, and it worked like a charm. Although we did not meet, Greg strikes me as a trustworthy guy who is not just out for a buck. I would highly recommend contacting him for your electrical needs! Thanks again! read more

Initially responded with a quote and then completely disappeared. Disappointing and frustrating to just be ignored when trying to give someone work. read more

I called Greg to try to set up a service in my home. It turns out he does not service my town. I was about to hang up and he asked me what the problem was. He then proceeded to walk me through a number of steps to try to get a better sense of what I needed so he could recommend someone and in the process we fixed the problem. He then went on the educate me on the nature of the electrical issues (involving GFCI outlets) i was having so I would be better prepared if problems popped up again. He was so generous with his time and knowledge. If he does service your area I would strongly urge you to reach out to him to fix your electrical problems. read more

I wanted to write this review because, although I live outside of Greg's service area, he still took my call. He was very polite and professional and offered his opinion when I described my electrical issue. I wish he worked in my area because I would hire him in a minute! Honest, trust worthy, respectable, and fairly priced. Greg is very professional and goes above and beyond, even if it doesn't profit him. Definitely my go to professional for all my electrical and A/C jobs. Great customer service, and even better work ethic. read more

This review is late but just a couple of quick comments about Greg and his work. Back in July, I called Greg on a whim while looking up electricians on a Google search. From the moment I called and spoke with him and explained the work we needed completed, I genuinely liked him. He was very knowledgeable. Setting up the appointment was easy and he came out to install a new electrical box for our new washer/dryer hook-up. He even offered to replace our original box and the wiring that came with. My husband and I couldn't be happier with his work and detail. We plan on calling Greg for our other jobs throughout our fixer-upper. read more

I used Greg Avakian twice, but didn't join Yelp until now, so I'm giving one review. The first time, he added a dedicated line for my home office, to run my computers from. I loved the fact that he colored coded the plates, which makes it easy to remember which four outlets are for computers, and which 8 are for general usage (yes... this is a real office in my home). The work was performed in a timely manner, everything promised was delivered, and the room was immaculate when he was done (rarely seen by other contractors). I was so happy, than when we made the decision to upgrade our service and replace the electrical panel, the choice of which contractor to use was simple - Greg. This was a much more complex job, and again Greg shone. The work was completed on budget, in the time frame promised, and perfectly done. The garage was cleaner than when he came in - which was a nice bonus :) I very strongly recommend Greg Avakian for any electrical needs. He was professional, courteous, polite, and an absolute pleasure to deal with. He answered every question we had, providing very clear and understandable explanations. This was probably the first time I dealt with a contractor who was so incredibly NICE to work with. In the past I've had to deal with some people who may have delivered good work, but were gruff and uncommunicative. Greg encouraged communication between us - I will only use him for any future work. read more

We've hired Greg multiple times to do electrical work around our house -- light fixtures, ceiling fans, recessed lighting, new outlets, an exhaust fan, you name it! He's done an excellent job with everything, has good pricing, and is very professional. He was a pleasure to work with compared to many other contractors, and I'd highly recommend him. I'm sure we'll be hiring him again in the future. read more

A high-end contractor friend recommended Greg when we had a small electrical problem; Greg wasn't available to come to our house but he gave me detailed instructions about how to troubleshoot on my own, gave me additional advice after I texted him photos, and spent a long time on the phone with me diagnosing the problem. All for free! He was knowledgable, friendly, and generous with his time and knowledge. He'll be the first electrician I call next time I have a problem. read more

I found Greg on Yelp and decided to contact him due to all the 5 stars reviews. I needed a technician to fix a circuit breaker issue that my tenants are experiencing in one of my rental units in Philly. Greg responded immediately and offered to pay an initial visit to assess the circuit problem. I work in NYC so I couldn't be present during his first visit, but Greg informed me that he's used to coordinating with tenants directly. Greg coordinated the visit without my involvement (which was great) and figured out the issue right away. Greg, in plain English, explained the problem to me over the phone and presented me with a few options in a later email (with a recommendation on what's the practical and right fix). I love Greg's transparency during the entire process (how he works, his pricing and scope of work) and his accessibility (via phone, text or email). His end product is very thorough and clean. I even threw in a side job at him that wasn't part of the original scope (switch out an old outdoor light with a new one with photocell). All in all, the job was done perfectly from start to finish. What I value is his timely responses and accessibility. Being a landlord, the most important thing I value from any service provider is reliability and dependability. Greg has that. I will absolutely use Greg again for my other rental properties. I would recommend Greg to anyone (particularly landlords) who's looking for a good technician/electrician in the Philadelphia area. read more

Greg unfortunately wasn't able to service my area, but quickly responded offered to help (which is such a rare occurrence these days) by sending a troubleshooting doc and providing his number for additional help.
