I've been in Ponta Delgada for about two weeks now and as much as I love the fresh meats and dairy products (I am neither a vegetarian nor vegan), I was in desperate need of some vegetables. I heard about this restaurant from some friends and decided to give it a try. Since by first visit, I have been back two more times, and will most likely return a few more times during my one-month stay in Ponta Delgada.
Treze is a perfect restaurant located on Rua de São João. Not only do they have fresh and delicious juices, but they serve clean and fresh salads (full of greens, beans, cabbage, cucumbers, etc.) and as of last week, have added a few dinner options to their rich menu.
During my first visit, I had the Canellonis de espinafres com queijo de cabra (spinach cannellonis with goat cheese). It was PERFECTION! I love spinach and goat cheese and the combination was perfect! I wish the portion size were a bit bigger, because I was definitely left wanting more!
During my second visit, I decided to explore the new (and albeit small dinner menu) and ordered the Caril de ananás e batatas doce (sweet potato curry and pineapple). This plate was so rich and flavorful, I wiped my plate clean! The curry, sweet potato and pineapple flavors perfectly complemented one another and with the addition of green beans, peas, and tomato definitely made it a very filling dish!
On my third visit (thus far!) I decided to try one of their freshly pressed juices. I went with the Berry juice which included bananas, strawberries and oranges. A very refreshing drink after a long day of exploring the island!
I'd like to add that the staff at Treze are extremely nice. I've even had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the restaurant who is very interested in hearing feedback from her customers. On an island that has plenty of meat and fish options, Treze is a refreshing alternative for vegetarians and for those of us craving some fresh vegetables and fruits.
Can't wait for my next visit! read more
