I had seen great reviews and couldn't wait to try this place! Did not disappoint! The menu is smaller than a lot of other places, but it was a varied mix with something for every taste. We got a cheese and bread platter to start and I honestly could have eaten that all day, it was so good! Oh, and we were offered a house-made water flavored with pineapple rinds and mint - holy moley, that was surprisingly delightful! For entrees, I got the bife with fries and my mom got the ribs with roasted sweet potatoes. Everything was so delicious and fresh! The service was friendly and warm which was the overall feel of the place. While we sat outside, we did peek at what the inside looks like - very hip and eclectic. It's centrally located a block away from the matriz on a pedestrian-only street which made it ideal for an afternoon bite. I really like the vibe here. There's outdoor seating available to take in the cool night air. But be warned that you might be taking in more than air as smokers usually occupy these tables. The inside can get a bit noisy depending on the crowd, but overall, it wasn't too loud. The drinks was very good and about 5 euros. I wished I would have gotten another one, but I was driving. I ordered the steak and I have to say that this was the best steak I've had on my entire trip. It was charred correctly and tender & juicy. I really recommend this if you come here. The fries came with an aioli and ketchup. It really went well with the fries and steak. They do take credit cards, so if you don't have any cash on hand, no worries. read more

We started with the "local board" (chorizo, blood sausage, local pineapple, marmalade, local cheese and some sort of meat spread) and the cheese fondue in a bread bowl. The fondue was truly amazing! Very friendly !! Took the time to talk about their menu ! Use organic ingredients so the menu changes ! Started with veal and a fondue dip which was very tasty . Main course we had two types of cod dishes - very tasty ! They made a salad with the creamy cod ( reminded me of a crab cake with cod instead ). Dessert we tried their apple cobbler . Our first dinner in Ponta Delgada, and perhaps one of our favorites!! Originally we were looking for a different place, but weren't able to find it (thankfully because we found it a few days later and were glad we didn't go there)....and stumbled upon Casa da Rosa. They really didn't have room for us, but we managed to squeeze 5 people into a 4 person table and went with it.... we were tired and starving! After the initial shock of how cheap the wine was (thank you Europe!) we selected a bottle, while some had the local beer (Especial). We opted to start with "one of every tapa" which I think our server found to be hilarious lol. There were only 4 tapas so it really wasn't that much food...but I think we all agreed the fondues were the best... definitely eat the bread bowl afterwards. For mains, I had the steak which was a delicious fatty cut. Two had tuna, one had the carbonara which was great, and one had the pork ribs. Of course I stole bites of everyone's food so I can tell you, everything was great!! This was one of the few places we saw such an eclectic menu too, so definitely a good reason to come! Did we have dessert? Maybe we shared something....which I don't remember. We were two bottles deep in the wine at this point, and we just had to have the After Eight shots we saw another group get!! This was the best meal I had during my whole trip to Lisbon, Madrid, and the Azores. I was told the Porto Tonico was a the aperitif of choice in Portugal, but the bartender created his own version for me and it was wonderful. White wine, vodka, lime juice, tonic water, topped off with fruit, and served on ice. So refreshing! The steak was cooked to perfection and really was the best steak I've had in a long time. Finally, the Petit Gateau (the most delicious chocolate lava cake for my fellow Americans) and the most AMAZING ice cream I've ever had in my entire life. Wd stopped in for lunch the other day and were very pleased with the food. The flaming chorizo was as it sounded which was a bit of a surprise but we enjoyed the flame being lit underneath and crisping the edges. My group ordered the burger and one of the specials of the day: meat lasagna. Both were a Portuguese take on them. The burger was served on what looked like a large sweet English muffin, and had a mixture of shredded carrot, beet, and something I do not remember. Finally I had a proper Morangoska after a five year wait! It was at a very reasonable price too. The bacalao on a tile was just superb as well as the vihno verde we had to go along with it. Best vegan food we've had on the island so far! There are 3 vegetarian dishes on the menu, however, only 1 can be prepared vegan upon request: the stuffed zuccini. It comes with a salad and is loaded with lots of yummy veggies and topped with pine nuts! So delicious! Just make sure to tell them to leave out the honey, as they usually garnish the plate with it because they weren't aware it's not vegan. Also the comfy arm chair outside is perfect for a port or one of the yummy and fruity non-alcoloci cocktails. Highly recommended and definitely #VeganVentures approved! read more

Our first night in Ponta Delgada, wandering around somewhat aimlessly, jetlagged, and starving fate brought us to Casa da Rosa. It's pretty small inside, and though there are larger bench tables for larger parties we were a little late to the dinner game and had to squeeze in 5 at a table for 4, but the staff was super accommodating. Being our first night in town we were thrilled to find how reasonable the prices were for both wine and food and ordered a bottle of wine for the table (it may have turned into two) and every tapa on the menu as we picked out our entrees. As the tapas were delivered my favorite was the cheese fondue served in a mini bread bowl. SO creamy and flavorful. For my main course I opted for the tuna steak, which I had done medium rare. I think I ate three tuna steaks on the island and this is the ONLY place that asked me how I wanted it cooked, and the ONLY place that didn't serve me a tuna hockey puck. It was served perfectly, and the side of potatoes was amazing as well. As we were winding down our meal we saw a few girls come in, head to the bar, and order shots. They were served in tiny milk bottles and were bright green and creamy. Since this was our first day of vacation we couldn't muss out on shots, and the waiter aimed to please and brought us a round. Turns out they were after eight shots, as in after eight mints, and had a grasshopper kind of flavor to them (the cookie not the bug). I never do shots, but I could have done a few more of these for sure. As Savanna M mentioned, we definitely got a dessert, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was, but I remember having a bite and saying that it was good and not too sweet..a cake perhaps? Maybe it's a good thing I didn't order a second After Eight shot or I would have forgotten everything I ate...but this was definitely on of our favorite meals of the trip. read more

Although it appeared to be busy, the group of 5 was seated quickly with a group of 2. Following our seating, many people were turned away due to lack of space. You may benefit from making a reservation. The fondue was delicious, but quite small. Likely appropriate for 1-2 people. The vegetarian lasagna was good, but nothing unlike what I've had previously. Service was fair. Staff is able to speak good English for those of us who do not speak Portuguese. The service was fair. It would have been better rated if the waiters had not forgotten an order of coffee and wait time for the bill wasn't reasonable. We waited at least a half hour-45 minutes. This is time that could have been used to seat new patrons. It was difficult to get the waiter's attention. read more

Very nice place. Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night around 8:30pm without reservations. The place was full but luckily we (party of two) were seated right away. They have a few vegetarian options for my friend. My friend got the curry Napoleon which came with a side salad. It was a huge portion. I ordered the steak which was not that big but very tasty. We also got a whole bottle of delicious red wine from northern Portugal that was recommended by our server. The fresh cheese appetizer with the pepper jelly was also very tasty. All in all we each spent 30 euros for a very delicious and filling meal. Our server was attentive and super nice. He offered us a sample of the sao Miguel liqueurs at the end of our meal. We were looking for something to eat and I did not want anything too heavy or fish. This restaurant has vegetarian options which are hard to come by on the island. I would say the the restaurant has a hipster youthful vibe also unusual on the island. I had a veggie burger and fondue. Both very good. Burger was a big soggy but tasty. We wanted to try this place because of all the good feedback and, frankly, found the hype to be unfounded and the food - overrated. The decor of the place is very hip and it seems like the goal is to stand out from other places on the island. Service-wise, there are a lot of waiters but the place seems chaotic and tables are left unattended with no one checking in or removing plates. We got the fondue for appetizer, and cod and stuffed zucchini for entrees. The appetizer was so-so - the cheese was tasty, but some of the dried breads were very hard. On to the entrees: the fish was cooked well, but had dozens of small bones that had to be taken out before I could eat the piece. The clay tray on which the fish arrived also had some potatoes, which were good. The salad, which came on a separate plate, however, was a mishmash of ingredients and I stopped eating it after a couple of bites. The ingredients didn't marry well, at least to my taste. My husband's stuffed zucchini was not flavorful - the zucchini "shell" was just stuffed with lots of cheese and baked. He only got 1/2 of a full zucchini and not much of the actual vegetable presence. His salad was very similar to mine, with addition of sunflower seeds, and he didn't finish his salad either. It took close to 30 minutes to get our plates cleared; we didn't get dessert. What's comforting is that our server did ask us as we were paying if we liked our food (we answered honestly). Perhaps, other items on the menu are excellent, in which case I think the restaurant can definitely be a success if the dining room is managed better and some less stellar dishes either improved or eliminated. read more
