    Azorean streak

One of the better places my friends and I ate in Ponta Delgada. My party of four all ordered the classic Azorean steak cooked in garlic and butter with red pepper. I had really low expectations coming here since the other reviews said the steak was super salty, almost inedible. The four of us agreed that this was not the case. The steak was well seasoned and tasted like how my Vietnamese mom would cook beef. Whole cloves of garlic were cooked with the meat and I ate each and every one of them. The red pepper must have soaked up all the sodium in the cooking process because they were too salty and subsequently left behind. Our waitress brought out our fries late so she brought us extra when she remembered. Bottles of house red and white wine cost us under 15 euros each. We ordered chocolate mousse and cheesecake for dessert. Only the chocolate mousse came out because our waitress had forgotten the cheesecake. By the time we realized this, we just asked her to give us the check. The chocolate mousse was one of the best desserts we had during the trip. Overall, I would recommend!

If you want "real steak" that is cooked to order, this is definitely the place. Most places in the Azores overcook meat and when you say "medium" it's always well-done. This is a place known for meat quality and doing it right, so kudos for that! I deducted one star here because they allow smoking INSIDE!!! While I understand the Azores have a lot of smokers it's utterly disgusting to eat in what feels like an ashtray with all the smoke. I've been living here almost two months now and have found numerous restaurants that effectively separate non-smoking from smoking sections. Owners, please take note and separate the smokers;-) I deducted another star here because while the dish was incredible, it was waaaay too salty! You couldn't take a bit without combining the meat with (thankfully unsalted) fries. Otherwise the service was great - should be for a place that is double or triple the typical meal cost...and the decor in traditional arches was beautiful.

    Restaurant area.

One thing to note is that their operating hours are not M-F. I've added a picture of their time so just make sure you if you want to eat here, that it's within their hours of operation. Their sangria was very good and not too strong. I ordered the grilled squid with garlic sauce. I posted a picture of it. They gave me alot of squid and even took out the cartilage to make it easier to consume. The taste was good and not too fishy. The food was great and not that expensive either. So glad we decided to come here.

Thus I cannot attest to their full plates. But I can with their smaller ones, and each one is a winner. Every meal in the Azores will be preceded with bread and cheese. O Corisco's was the best we had. Most places do the typical mushy and bland queso fresco that gets old quickly. Here they provided us a plate of hard cheeses and tons of bread, which were so good we didn't leave a crumb on the plate. Their Caldo Verde soup with diced linguica is pretty darn good, as is their small place of fried linguica and mushrooms. The highlight here though is their little lounge area near the big-screen television. It's not just a restaurant, but also a place to chill. Beer is cheap too. What is not to like?
