    Half order of Loin Steak
    Kim A.

Great steak! A nice little gem in Ponta Delgada- make sure to call and make reservations! They were crowded at 7 pm when they opened and throughout the time we were seated. The steak is good and was cooked to perfection.

I ordered a medium rare steak and got this over cooked thing.

Medium rare steak served medium well. Read the glowing reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor so decided to make the trek to this restaurant on a Thursday night at 7 pm. They gave us a table after we promised to finish by 8:30. We ordered 2 full Bifes de Lombo and specified Medium Rare. The 2 steaks arrived at the same time. One was perfectly medium rare but the other was seriously over cooked. There was hardly any pink, even in the centre of the steak. Medium well. I was very disappointed but didn't want to make trouble. Our waiter came by to check on us. I showed him my steak and said it was overdone. "A little bit too cooked but at least tender, right?" he replied. Honestly, it tasted chewy and over cooked. I ate half and gave up. My dining partner did his best to finish my steak. We try not to waste food. When we were finished, I asked for the bill. Waiter 1 nodded and went off to help other diners. I waited and asked again. Waiter 2 nodded and began changing placemats for a table that had spilled their wine. The 3rd request also went unattended. The restaurant was completely full and the waiters were very busy. The bill came to 49 euros; 18 euros for each steak plus drinks, salad etc. I decided that my steak was not worth the full price of 18 euros and gave the waiter 40 euros. Suddenly, I had their full attention! They asked me to wait while they went into the kitchen to discuss with someone. I stood in the corridor for several minutes. One waiter told me that if I didn't like my steak, I should have told them. And I should have asked to have a new one. Perhaps that's right but what they SHOULD have done is ask me if I wanted a replacement instead of making a consolatory statement about the steak's tenderness! The "discussion" continued for a few more minutes. One waiter explained that it's hard to gauge cooking temperature if a steak just came out of the refrigerator. With that lame and unprofessional comment, I realized that we were DONE. I told him that we were done and walked out. A steakhouse cook prepares hundreds of steaks each week. He/she should be able to differentiate between a medium rare and medium well piece of meat! See my picture of the "medium rare" steak. I should have taken a picture of my dining partner's medium rare steak. Mine was almost fully white inside while his was the proper reddish pink. PS. We had steak the night before at No Carvão. It's a casual local's churrasqueira. My steak cost under 8 euros, the meat was not as good a cut but it was properly cooked and juicy. Their sangrias, salads and roast chicken are also good.

Small space but pretty good steak. Need to make a reservation. We didn't do we did take out. The whelk salad and octopus salad were average but the regional tenderloin was perfect. Order ready in ten minutes pretty amazing

This place looks super cool, but I would recommend trying another place in the general area. I'm…read morenot sure if it was because the holiday (New Years) had just passed, but the meal started with a list of what was NOT available which was more than a quarter of the menu -- which also included no white wine by the glass and no beer. The white sangria pitcher was almost too bitter to drink. The croquettes were a tasty starter -- but the cheese wrapped in filo dough was a non-starter. The beet risotto was pleasant but not necessarily memorable. The Hot Cold dessert was a big disappointment. It has beautiful presentation, but we could not finish even the small dessert. Our service was less than ideal. The restaurant was not full, yet you could see their intense stress levels. With the high quality of dinners we'd had for similar and even lower price in the area, we really expected a lot more.

A quick dip in soy sauce, and it was exploding with flavor. It's the best seared tuna we've ever had. I got the octopus legs, which was the BEST octopus I've ever had. And this is coming from someone who immediately orders octopus as soon as she sees it on the menu. I had octopus four times in a week in the Azores, and this was the best. I don't know what they do to the octopus to make it so tender, but it melts in your mouth like butter, and the ends of the tentacles are crispy perfection. Even the side dishes are good here! My octopus came with perfectly cooked and savory potatoes and Brussels sprouts, as well as a small fresh salad. My husband's tuna came with a broccoli steak and the same perfect potatoes. I know I use perfect a lot in this review, but that's all I could say about this food. It was executed that well. My only complaint would be that there is a slight smell of something like bleach throughout the restaurant. You get used to it, but it was off-putting at first. Note that you will definitely need to make a reservation in order to get a table. If I recall, I was able to make one through Facebook a week in advance pretty easily. You can't miss a dinner here while I'm Ponta Delgada.

We started off with the grilled limpets (picture below), which I had never had before. They were delicious--slightly similar to a mussel with a firmer texture but still pretty unique in their own right. For entrees I had the octopus (picture below) and my girlfriend had the swordfish. The swordfish was great, but the octopus was out of this world. It was a grilled octopus, but was very different from other meals I've had before in the fact that it was a very rich dish. The portion was very large, so it was great to share. I highly recommend going to this restaurant.

The location is beautiful, and the patio looks like it would be wonderful on a nice day. The meal had some highlights: the garlic shrimp was delicious, the local Azorean red wine was excellent, and the wreckfish was tasty, though a bit bony. The potatoes were also very good. The limpets and desserts were just okay for us. Service was friendly and polite, but a bit confusing. We had multiple servers throughout the meal, and the timing felt off at times. Overall, it was a decent experience in a stunning spot. I'd return for a drink, some shrimp, and the view on a sunny day.
