The store smells like a decadent mixture of blue cheese and flowers (needs to be smelt to be believed) and is filled with festive "bits" to fill stockings and line pantries. Sadly for me and my budget, a lot of my shopping experience here comprised of looking only, but it was truly a treat for the eyes. Beautifully packaged crackers, chocolates and kitchen utensils fill their shelves as well as a varied range of international foods (including the irresistible Reece's pieces). There's also several food hampers to choose for if you're feeling generous. Or hungry. It could just be jealousy, but I couldn't help feeling like it was all a bit overpriced. £5.50 for 12 tiny mince pies?! What a rip off! It I wasn't such a shopaholic mince-pie fiend I would have walked straight outtathere instead of straight to the till. A walk into Harvey Nichols Food Market put me well and truly in the Christmas mood - I just hope me and my family can wait 'till the big day to eat the tiny mince pies!

However, one place I do go to treat myself every now and again is the Harvey Nics foodmarket. It is a complete food lovers haven with the most weird and wonderful ingredients, antipasti, cakes and drinks and what's more - it's not even that expensive. You'd pay the same for lunch in here as you would in some of the other places in Cabot Circus (I'm thinking Pret A Manger). They sometimes have little pop up stalls with people selling new innovative products, I bought a delicious little carton of fruit smoothie from the owner of a new up and coming company and again, it wasn't too expensive. It's wise to go in here after you've eaten mind otherwise you could end up buying just about everything.

They have a good selection of interesting cheeses. Even though it was empty on a weekday afternoon, the cheesemonger didn't seem particularly interested in helping us since we weren't buying a ton. I know it's annoying to let us sample and then cut a bunch of 100 g pieces, but we just didn't have anywhere to store the cheese on our trip. They also have lots of cheese tools and cheese related gifts, as well as their own crackers and lots of various spreads. It's a pretty cute and complete shop.

Paxton and Whitfield was always a London institution. And I love old traditional shops, especially businesses as old as this one. So, I went into this shop hopeful I could find a special treat for a picnic. It was lovely, a really special experience. The young man in the shop was really helpful and knowledgeable and friendly and not in the least bit snooty. There were lots of beautiful artisan cheeses from all over, including some special local cheeses. Suffice it to say that I tasted some beautiful cheeses in there and took some lovely stuff home with me. I can only recommend that you do the same. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

And if I haven't tried it yet, I will. And I will then love it. So this cheese stall was always quite likely to get my vote. But I'm particularly happy with it. Located in the centre of the Old Arcade, it may have a different name - but this is how I know it. The people who served me were wonderful. Not only were they friendly, but they recommended different cheeses. I just wanted a bit of cheese but they were so knowledgable that I would feel comfortable just asking them to give me a selection, if I had to impress the Queen with my cheeseboard.

It's hard to find a traditional cheesemongers that can compete with the availability of food in large supermarkets, but there is still one surviving inside Cardiff's Central Market. The range of cheese is mind-blowing compared with what's available in a supermarket, and the advice and guidance on what kind of cheese you might want to sample comes from a friendly set of staff. As with all the traders in the old Cardiff Market, The Cheese Stall is an expert in its field, so they will be able to offer expert advice and guidance that you know you can trust.

The incredibly knowledgeable, incredibly friendly, incredibly engaging cheesemonger from France basically only had eyes for me (or so it felt; they take care of their customers so well here! I've never felt so spoiled!), and spent quite a bit of time both talking cheese with me and letting me try loads of different samples from locally made sources. I got quite a few options, and he did a spectacular job at giving me just enough of each so that I could have a Wine + Cheese Night For One back at my AirBnB. I also picked up some crackers, olives, and incredibly garlicky hummus. If you love cheese, do yourself a favor and come here. Even if you don't know where to begin except traits you like (funky, creamy, earthy, salt crystaly), they'll know exactly where to steer you, and will probably delight and surprise you along the way!

I like cheese so I popped into this factory shop and I'm very glad that I did. On the way down the hill from the car park I popped into another gift shop that seemed to be offering cheese tasting, but the guy behind the counter had no customer service skills and I just left. The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company shop, however, in extreme contrast to the first shop, has staff members just standing around behind the counter with the soul duty of offering you a sample of all the various varieties of cheese that they make in the factory behind the shop. You don't feel awkward at all asking to try them all. I DID buy some before I left the shop and it wasn't touristy expensive. I wish that there was a shop like this in my town. Not a lot of photos being taken but everyone in the shop was saying cheese. Pity it is 388 miles away.
