Lidl is generally OK, low prices and reasonably fresh food. But the management and customer service in the new store in Splott Cardiff is shocking. I'm usually not picky and I barely ever complain but this time I've had enough. I'm a regular shopper here for the past 6 years, but ever since they refurbished and introduced self checkout which would normally be great if it wasn't breaking every few items, and was required for only up to 10 items like any other normal shop, everything goes downhill from there. Scan to log (which allows you to put item in bagging area) takes at least 4-5 seconds for each item, for some reason it's not as quick as regular till which would normally scan 1 item per second. Again normally it would be acceptable if it wasn't for the fact that regular tills are nearly always closed in the evening hours after 18:00. Last time I've checked that's when the regular working people tend to do their shopping. If you're like me, and you tend to fill up you basket, you can imagine how long it takes to scan few dozens of items.
This is outrageous, clearly manager expect customers to serve themselves most of the time. Surprisingly there's at least 4 or five other members of staff wondering around checking stock and filling the stalls, but my God, I believe customers are a bit more important than topping up stalls with carrots or moving items with short expiry date to the front (regular practice in all shops)
It really seams like manager doesn't really care, less customers comes to that shop, less work they would have to do, is that how they train them? read more
