(I feel as though I'm being very generous today, but I've just found so many good places recently!)…read more Right, I love cheese. I mean, I really love cheese. Of all kinds. And if I haven't tried it yet, I will. And I will then love it. So this cheese stall was always quite likely to get my vote. But I'm particularly happy with it. Located in the centre of the Old Arcade, it may have a different name - but this is how I know it. The people who served me were wonderful. Not only were they friendly, but they recommended different cheeses. I just wanted a bit of cheese but they were so knowledgable that I would feel comfortable just asking them to give me a selection, if I had to impress the Queen with my cheeseboard.

As you enter the market you will be greeted by the same smell of fresh fish that has filled my childhood memories of this place. It's hard to find a traditional cheesemongers that can compete with the availability of food in large supermarkets, but there is still one surviving inside Cardiff's Central Market. The range of cheese is mind-blowing compared with what's available in a supermarket, and the advice and guidance on what kind of cheese you might want to sample comes from a friendly set of staff. As with all the traders in the old Cardiff Market, The Cheese Stall is an expert in its field, so they will be able to offer expert advice and guidance that you know you can trust.

Since it's…read moreone of the oldest cheesemongers and is well established, it is more expensive, but compared to American prices, it's still not that bad. They have a good selection of interesting cheeses. Even though it was empty on a weekday afternoon, the cheesemonger didn't seem particularly interested in helping us since we weren't buying a ton. I know it's annoying to let us sample and then cut a bunch of 100 g pieces, but we just didn't have anywhere to store the cheese on our trip. They also have lots of cheese tools and cheese related gifts, as well as their own crackers and lots of various spreads. It's a pretty cute and complete shop.

Paxton and Whitfield was always a London institution. And I love old traditional shops, especially businesses as old as this one. So, I went into this shop hopeful I could find a special treat for a picnic. It was lovely, a really special experience. The young man in the shop was really helpful and knowledgeable and friendly and not in the least bit snooty. There were lots of beautiful artisan cheeses from all over, including some special local cheeses. Suffice it to say that I tasted some beautiful cheeses in there and took some lovely stuff home with me. I can only recommend that you do the same. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.
