And if I haven't tried it yet, I will. And I will then love it. So this cheese stall was always quite likely to get my vote. But I'm particularly happy with it. Located in the centre of the Old Arcade, it may have a different name - but this is how I know it. The people who served me were wonderful. Not only were they friendly, but they recommended different cheeses. I just wanted a bit of cheese but they were so knowledgable that I would feel comfortable just asking them to give me a selection, if I had to impress the Queen with my cheeseboard.

As you enter the market you will be greeted by the same smell of fresh fish that has filled my childhood memories of this place. It's hard to find a traditional cheesemongers that can compete with the availability of food in large supermarkets, but there is still one surviving inside Cardiff's Central Market. The range of cheese is mind-blowing compared with what's available in a supermarket, and the advice and guidance on what kind of cheese you might want to sample comes from a friendly set of staff. As with all the traders in the old Cardiff Market, The Cheese Stall is an expert in its field, so they will be able to offer expert advice and guidance that you know you can trust.

The service was wonderful and the cute shop a delight. We ended taking 2 different aged cheddars home and some other gifts as well. This locale in the Cheddar Gorge is superb. The drive down reminded me of a drive through the mountains in Switzerland, so beautiful. Certainly alot to see and do and walking is the way to do it. What a beautiful late afternoon in the Gorge. I look forward to returning to this beautiful place.

I like cheese so I popped into this factory shop and I'm very glad that I did. On the way down the hill from the car park I popped into another gift shop that seemed to be offering cheese tasting, but the guy behind the counter had no customer service skills and I just left. The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company shop, however, in extreme contrast to the first shop, has staff members just standing around behind the counter with the soul duty of offering you a sample of all the various varieties of cheese that they make in the factory behind the shop. You don't feel awkward at all asking to try them all. I DID buy some before I left the shop and it wasn't touristy expensive. I wish that there was a shop like this in my town. Not a lot of photos being taken but everyone in the shop was saying cheese. Pity it is 388 miles away.

The cheese here is just gloriously good, creamy, gorgeous, decadent and makes you feel a bit special! Cheese from here, some crackers a fine bottle of oaky red and I feel like I have found a small pathway to heaven! On top of that, the staff here are incredibly nice and helpful, although I have generally noticed that people who are mad about cheese are generally sound people :-) They also sell an incredibly good brown sauce here that goes fantastically with sausages. Very deserving of 5 stars.

Most islands being rife with fruit and fish I would probably choose cheese. I absolutely love the stuff. I love the smell, the taste, the history of making it, the process - all of it! As one can then imagine living in Bristol with Trethowan Cheese Maker and Monger just down the road, my cheese lust is often satiated. As well as a very good range of deliciously rich and creamy cheeses at this stall in St Nicholas's Market, there's also a wealth of information on offer. Any queries about the traditional style of cheese production can be answered here along with a few tasters and nibblers of course! They're not just a mongers, they're keen to stress, because they also sell the Gorwydd Caerphily. This is very much a Welsh word and one I don't understand. It looks a bit like the rind and is very very delicious. If cheese would be your desert island choice or not, this shop is worth the trip.

This is a small family run organic farm which produces cheese…read more We visited the farm on a very rainy day when we were all a bit fed up (me, hubbie and 4 children), our spirits soon improved when we got there though. When we were driving down the lane in the pouring rain we were sure we had taken a wrong turning but then we arrived at the small farm, seemingly in the middle of nowhere!! We would made to feel so welcome as we trudged up to the shop and dripped all over their floor. In the shop is a small veiwing gallery which looks down on the room where the cheese is made. The people making the cheese were friendly and although we couldn't speak to them or hear them as there was glass between us they were smiling and waving at the children. The lady in the shop talked us through what was going on in the cheese making room, it was actually very interesting!! Even all the children listened intently and asked a couple of questions. We were then invited to taste some of the cheese, I think maybe we ate a bit too much though as there was 6 of us!! The cheese we bought to take home with us wasn't overpriced and so often it can be in places like this, and it tasted great. They also have a small cafe with drinks and home made cakes, very yummy! We will definately return next time we are in the area.

There was plenty of opportunity to taste the different cheeses and we did not feel awkward tasting all of them. There was no hard sell but the cheese was so delicious that there was no hesitation in buying some to take away. Prince Charles has visited and recommends them highly. They continue to win prizes at the Royal Welsh Show. There is a small tea room where whilst having a drink you can watch a dvd of the cheese making process and learn all about it.

We'd maybe stop into a cafe for egg and chips and my nan would, of course, know the owner. We'd go to a couple of pound shops. Not to look about, mind you. But because my nan wanted very specific things from there. And then, before heading to the bus stop, we'd go to the butchers "to pick up something for our tea". That was the routine. And now that I'm an adult myself, I can't help but smile whenever I dive in to grab a steak "for my tea". Of course, that smile also comes from the fact that in this particular butcher, it's not uncommon to see the meat cut right in front of you if you go at the right time of the day. There's something visceral and satisfying about watching your food being sliced up right in front of you. It's like being primal by proxy. And the prices on top of this... they're just the greatest thing ever. Buying a steak big enough to beat a man to death with for pocket change gives an immense amount of satisfaction. And then heading back to the cave with a hunk of meat over your shoulder? You feel like a hunter. What's not to love?
