Early dinner on a Saturday when the city center was really busy- this place wasn't packed yet since we were before the dinner rush. Good service! Food came out pretty fast. There are several meat pies as well as vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options! I had the Heidi, which is a vegetarian pie with goat cheese and sweet potatoes. The crust is flaky and cooked really well! I loved the filling- still hearty even without meat. The mash was a great choice and the gravy is excellent- pour it all over! The mushy peas have mint- peas aren't my favorite but these have a good texture. I was really full after and this is a good value meal for the quality! 2 pies with sides and a beer for £26 in the city center- we were plenty satisfied!

Great place to enjoy a hearty hot meal served quickly. Great service. Tried the paneer and fungi pies and were both delicious.

Pieminister is a small chain of restaurants in the UK, with its specialty being pies as suggested in the name, they are based in Bristol with 2 restaurants over there and some other branches across the country including Manchester, London and this branch right here in the Welsh capital - Cardiff. After enjoying some of there Pie-pots, which they sell in british supermarkets including Tesco, I decided to call in here, having wanted to try them for a while but having been put off by there Manchester store, being up steps and not offering a gluten free menu of any kind, however this place was different. They did have a gluten free menu with some nice pies on show, including the pastry, I decided to order a Gluten Free Moo with Mash. The service was quite quick, and it was very good value as well. My server was very nice, she was irish and we got chatting about Manchester, my home-town and how she visited the branch over there, and she also helped get me the password to the staff wi-f, with the standard customer wifi not working, and with my Tesco network struggling to pick up any signal in store, coming up as GRPS, meaning I needed connection to a wi-fi source as neither by 3G or 4G would work. I was also pleased with there range of drinks, with quite a cool selection of Apple Juice, including Orchard Pig which had free varieties, as I recall these were Ginger and Chilli, Sparking and Elderflower, I decided to order Ginger and Chilli, the drink was quite nice and did have that kick to it, that chilli gives. One flaw is that the seats and tables were not really comfortable or accessible, and I actually came out with a bad back because of it. Moving onto my food, it was quite nice, I liked the presentation and the mash was quite creamy and did gt o well with the pie, especially with the extra gravy, which was also made gluten free as well but still the gravy was quite nice, the pie was quite nice and the gravy it was in, made with ale was also quite nice and the pastry was also good. To conclude, this branch is something which should provide inspiration for other branches, including Manchester as they seem to be doing things right, which is always a good thing, the decor is also very nice and I would like to suggest they try to work on adding more tables/chairs, comfort and a wider selection on the gluten free menu to improve in the future, but this store has done enough to earn four stars, and on Queen Street with so many eateries including Prezzo and Zizzi, this place has finally stepped up to set its-self apart from the competition.

I spied this restaurant in my pre Cardiff research and it did not disappoint. Located towards the south western edge of city center, the offerings include a number of unique savoy pies, at least four of which are vegetarian and/or vegan. You also can choose from several meal structures. We both had the one pie, one side, and one ice cream option. My pie was the wild mushroom asparagus pie, served with a brown sauce over a vegan much. Absolutely delicious. My wife had the Kevin pie which had chestnut mushrooms, quinoa, tomatoes and baby onions. There is nothing quite like this in our home of Southern California. I asked our server what her favorite ice cream sundae option was as every choice looked tempting. She recommended the cherry pie sundae which served as a nice finish to our meal. We did do battle with a few knats during dinner but the taste of the food was worth even this distraction. Well worth seeking out.

My boyfriend and I made a spontaneous decision to come to Cardiff after visiting some relatives in England. I'd been talking about steak and kidney pie all week long (not something we eat in America). My boyfriend had been to the oxford restaurant before and loved it, so when we stumbled on this we couldn't resist. It was everything I hoped and dreamed - we got the food about 30 seconds after ordering, the pie was incredible, and the minted mushy peas were great. Thank goodness we don't have these in the states because I'd be very fat very quickly.

As today marks the start of 'British Pie Week' I figured it only right that I throw it back to the last time I ate Pie at Pieminister and of course share the only reason I forgo Skinny Jeans... The 'Deerstalker' - filled with British Venison, dry cured bacon, red wine and puy lentils. This Pie is the top of the Pie Chain. Add their sweet potato chips, minty mushy peas (a few hundred more calories) and you have yourself the perfect way in which to celebrate British Pie Week! *raises fork* Enjoy!

Just across from hostel. My first experience with mushy peas. I had the moo and blue. It was delicious and the service was awesome. Love Cardiff

    Doesn't that look delicious?

My friends and I spent 2 nights in Cardiff recently and fell in love with this vibrant city! The Pieminister was a terrific find. The warm and delicious pies, paired with home style sides and tasty pints were a welcome sight on a cold night. The chicken pie was our favorite and the mashed potatoes are to pie for.

Pie, chips, and lashings of ginger beer!

They have a fairly small Welsh menu and I was hoping to try some rarebit but unfortunately they took it off the menu now. So, I had the lamb cawl and beef and cottage pie. The pie was absolutely amazing, one of the best I have had so far. Lamb cawl was mediocre but I didn't have too much expectation from it to begin with. Everything was very reasonably priced and you can order from the table using their app and have the food delivered at the table which was amazing for a small town like Cardiff. The place in itself is amazing, its an old movie theater converted to a pub and like other reviewers mentioned they did not tear down the theater but just built the seating around it (good decision). The seating upstairs is more private and gives a good view of the whole theater.

Then, I had the spiced quail with chicory and red walnut pesto. Delicious! Next, I had the braised ox cheek with smoked pomme purée and Parmesan. Really really good. I also had a side of green beans that were made with garlic and lemon. Simple, but the best green beans I've ever had! Finally, I had a dessert of elderflower jelly, greengage (a European plum), vanilla ice cream, and biscotti. It was delicious!
