Cosy Club is a small chain of british restauraunts in the UK, having visited branches before in Manchester and Birmingham, I wanted to give this branch a try in Cardiff, which is just outside the St David's mall. The main way in is up steps but there is a lift tucked in at the back, however the lift just seems very slow, it didn't fill me with confidence because it was so slow, I actually felt the lift wasn't working or I was stuck. Once I arrived, the area was quite big, and certainly not 'Cosy' as described in the name, it just seemed packed and really noisy, to the point you basically had to shout to talk. I got put at a table, where I basically couldn't get anywhere near so I had to wait 5 minutes or so to be moved, and refuse an inpatient server who still tried to get me drinks. I did eventually get moved, which was hard due to reservations in a nice spot near the window, however it still didn't have a nice, cosy atmosphere as I expected and suggested in the name. I was also upset to see the gluten free menu changed, other than breakfast there was only 5 mains, which included two of them being steak and one a salad, and tw starters, replacing the Aberdeen Angus steak with Black Angus and a Lamb steak. The service seemed poor, and this branch sadly doesn't reflect branch standards as it just seems unwelcoming, especially with a very, old and slow lift, which forced me to just leave without ordering, so I feel this not so Cosy Club deserves a single one star.

Triple-Stacked Buttermilk Pancakes with Streaky Bacon and Golden Syrup - Yes, I just said that in my best M&S advert voice (You know the one). For the less calorific option have sliced bananas, blueberries, peach sauce and crème fraiche - both £5.95. Both d-lish. *Brunch served until 6pm.

This has got to be one of the oldest pubs in South Wales, it's medieval and dates from 1380. This is one of those places that reminds you how small we used to be - I'm only 5ft 7 and I stoop through the worn wooden doors. I havn't eaten here, but there is also a well respected restaurant upstairs offering a good selection of seafood dishes. Dishes include: Brixham Crab Cake with baby leaves and lemon butter sauce (£5.25); Plaice Goujons with paprika and a sweet red pepper tartar sauce (£4.95); Roasted Fillet of Hake with a chorizo and roasted red pepper risotto ith tomato, garlic and orange sauce for £13.95 For the vegetarians on the day I visited there was: Tomato Fondue, Wild Mushroom and Aubergine Bake, finished with garlic crumb and poached egg (£4.95) and Rosemary and Truffle Arancini Risotto with a tomato, red onion and spring onion salsa ( £4.95). The restaurant opening times are Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 9.30pm. They also offer bar meals between 12 and 2 pm Mondays to Saturdays and evening meals Monday to Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

They have a fairly small Welsh menu and I was hoping to try some rarebit but unfortunately they took it off the menu now. So, I had the lamb cawl and beef and cottage pie. The pie was absolutely amazing, one of the best I have had so far. Lamb cawl was mediocre but I didn't have too much expectation from it to begin with. Everything was very reasonably priced and you can order from the table using their app and have the food delivered at the table which was amazing for a small town like Cardiff. The place in itself is amazing, its an old movie theater converted to a pub and like other reviewers mentioned they did not tear down the theater but just built the seating around it (good decision). The seating upstairs is more private and gives a good view of the whole theater.

Good spot to try some traditional Welsh food, well for a tourist like me anyway. The lamb meatballs…read morewith mash, sauce and peas are very good. All covered in sauce. Light and airy lamb meat balls. The sausage and mash even better, also very light in texture made of leeks and onion. Welsh rarebit comes out proper hot, very good classic. Reasonable prices. Didn't get a chance to try the Welsh fruit cake because the kitchen closed at 10pm. It's a fun, lively pub atmosphere.

Ambiance/service: It is a very small place but is cozy and nice. There is a tiny and cute bar and the staff is very nice. But because it is small I would recommend reserving ahead of time. My server was very helpful in describing the dishes. Food: To start, I had a Cornish crab and potato rosti with a mustard leaf and chili. Sooo yummy and the crab was super fresh. Then, I had the spiced quail with chicory and red walnut pesto. Delicious! Next, I had the braised ox cheek with smoked pomme purée and Parmesan. Really really good. I also had a side of green beans that were made with garlic and lemon. Simple, but the best green beans I've ever had! Finally, I had a dessert of elderflower jelly, greengage (a European plum), vanilla ice cream, and biscotti. It was delicious! But I also loveeee elderflower so you definitely need to like that to have that dish. Overall, the food was excellent. I wish I could fly back to Cardiff to have it again!

We skipped starters, which I'm now regretting but there will be a next time, and went straight to the mains. I had the brace of quail and my wife had the lamb which were both delicious. We followed this with the chocolate mousse and chocolate and almond torte which were excellent. We drank the Guy Allion Pinot Noir which was light and smooth so a perfect accompaniment to the meal. We will definitely be returning to Milkwood
