If you're English and have money, come on in. If you're a tourist and have money after your exchange rate, come on in. The selection of items here are yummy, although what I have had has been limited. I had a friend who worked here and was able to sample things once in awhile. Wines, cheeses, coffee, fish, olives, and the like are here. Take things home or dine in. Just keep in mind, Chandos ain't cheap.
If the wavering economy is real, apparently no one inside Chandos has heard. I believe the deli began in Bristol then expanded to nearby areas, and it seems to retain a constant clientele despite it's priciness.
I was a student when I lived in the southwest, so obviously I didn't shop here often. I did, however, have a chance to try some coffee on my own, which I really enjoyed. Also, my friend would cook with various items he brought home from the store. Nothing he brought back ever disappointed, especially since I wasn't paying.
From what I understand, they sometimes have tastings and other special events, activities I never got a chance to try but wish I had. If you're passing by, go ahead and splurge. Get some coffee and a couple of small eats, then drown your sorrows about the bill with a glass of wine. If you're really daring, get one of the meals- I *think* they have a cafe you can sit down in. Otherwise, get it to go and sit in one of the nearby parks. The ingredients they use and tastefully weave together justify the price You're in Bath surrounded by Georgian architecture and centuries of history- live a little.
