This was a great small town american restaurant I found on my road trip to Seattle. The menu was heavy on sandwiches and traditional entrees (think country fried steaks and meatloaf). They also had a small but well stocked salad bar and homemade soups. I had a tri-tip French dip sandwich that was beefy and the au jus made it all go down easily. My NYC roommate had a turkey sandwich with avocado and a mountain of tater tots. It was a great lunch! Service was warm and friendly. Highly recommended for lunch! read more

These guys are nailing what they are going for. Small town, mellow diner with a couple of old guys hanging out this morning at 6:00 am. My wife, baby, and I rolled in, got a couple of early bird specials (eggs, hash browns and toast for me... Pancakes, bacon and eggs for the wife). Good food, that came out quickly, attentive service, clean bathrooms, and historical wallpaper up showing old time photos of Red Bluff. It's not a restaurant that will blow you away, but I think that you should commend when a place is doing everything it's trying to be. Only criticism is that the toilet paper was super coarse. Can't take off stars for that, I just need to be less dainty downstairs, but if they could get some softer 2 ply TP, that would make quite a few people happy. read more

This is a Gem in the north, if you are passing through stop in, breakfast was fabulous everything was delicious, we had a Western Omelet, French Toast, country potatoes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee, and hot coco. The topper though for me was the cinnamon roll, OMG it is to die for. Smothered in frosting, heated with a bit of butter on top. Not for the faint or I'll at heart but man was it delicious. The service was very good, could not ask for anything more out of the staff. For a small Northern California town to have such a gem was great to find we stay at the RV park near by on the way through town or just to get away. We ate there 2 times in a week and drove down from Redding. The Tremont has the best salad bar around and their salads and sandwiches are wonderful, especially the French Dip. Also the homemade cheesecake, pies and cakes. The servers are very friendly and really make your dining experience fun. Stopped in for a quick breakfast while on our way home from Chester. Service was fast and friendly. Busy place, but not loud. Family's breakfasts were yummy, and fairly basic. My spinach, sausage, mushroom scramble consisted of 2 eggs scrambled on top of 6 leaves of spinach (yes I counted) with sausage and mushrooms on top of the eggs. The whole thing was covered with swiss. It tasted really good. Next time I will know to ask for extra spinach. The hash browns were perfection! Iced tea is fresh brewed, coffee keeps flowing. Felt a bit overpriced for what you get. Our sides of 2 scrambled eggs looked more like 1, except for the one of us who opted for over easy. French toast was a fairly small cut (because regular bread), we expected a slightly bigger volume given it was the same price as a belgian waffle. The scramble with bacon was "lacking," per the member of our group who had it. Food was alright otherwise, but the service was pretty slow (no check for refills despite no real crowd), so overall we thought not worth 3 stars on this visit. YMMV read more

We have eaten breakfast there several times and the food has been consistently good. Major drawback though -- if you're a coffee drinker you'd better get your fix at home before you go. The service is not good and you will most likely find yourself begging for every refill. That is why we finally started going to other places. The food is also rather slow to arrive. It was a great choice. We are a family of 4 and it was nice to have a big table. 2 of our meals we opted for a side salad and we were pleased to find we could help ourselves to the salad bar. I am eating a paleo diet (I didn't mention it) and when I ordered my burger without a bun, they presented it wrapped in fresh lettuce and paper so I could eat it like a burger. It was such a thoughtful touch. The BLT was stacked and my kids each had tater tots that were the best they had. Friendly and attentive service topped off a great experience. read more

Had Tremont Cafe for the first time today and it was pretty good. I had eggs, bacon, toast, and a side of oatmeal. They have the option to do egg whites, which is amazing, and my oats were perfect and not mushy goop. The pies looked good as did the cinnamon rolls but I didn't partake this time. I will be back if I'm in Red Bluff. read more

Had lunch there yesterday, passing thru town. I had 2 eggs, hashbrowns, & toast. Hashbrowns not as browned and crispy as I like - tasted a little underdone; eggs over easy were a little rubbery. Out of kids menus (?) so waitress rattled off the kids items, in kids' earshot (always a mistake to let them hear the word "waffle") w/o naming prices. But their grilled cheese w/fries was decent sized for splitting. No lowfat milk, just regular, unfortunately. The salad bar and the cakes looked okay but didn't try them. Driving up the 5 looking for a spot to grab a sandwich for lunch (other than Subway or the other fast food options). Found this place on yelp which said it had deli sandwiches, so we stopped in. Ordered a deli style turkey sandwich in sourdough with Swiss, bacon, and avocado with a side salad. Boyfriend got a deli style salami sandwich on rye with all the fixins. Side salad was as to be expected, not bad but nothing great. Sandwiches were sub par. Sourdough tasted like white bread, there was mayo dripping off the side, and everything (I mean EVERYTHING) was stacked in the middle of the bread. That is my pet peeve (cmon what is so hard about constructing a sandwich so that everything is even across the bread?!?!?). Another thing, the Swiss cheese? Not Swiss. Not even cheese. It was that white Kraft american fake stuff. Boyfriend got the tots as his side dish...they were lukewarm at best when they came out and tasted like the frying oil was old. Still ate them because let's be honest, even bad tots are still good. Wouldn't hurry back. To sum it up, we both agreed we would have been way happier getting a sandwich at Safeway. read more

Tremont Cafe is one of those places I really wanted to like. Traveling through, we decided to stop for breakfast based on the abundance of above average reviews. Sadly, I have too agree with the lower reviews. While the staff were pleasant and helpful, the breakfast was less than adequate. I ordered the traditional Eggs Benedict. The sauce was separated into two phases, an oily phase and a gloppy phase. The eggs were runny. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. I asked my wife how she was enjoying her egg scramble. "Just OK", was her answer. I think it was the appearance of my plate that put her off. In summary, if I were a local Red Bluffian I'd probably give Tremont another shot, but that not being the case, if our future travels should bring us this way again, we'll probably shop yelp* for an alternative. I'm going to amend my original review. The remarks still stand. However, I'm going to bump Tremont up one star just because the owner wrote me a nice response to my review. Thank you. read more

If the service had been more attentive, my rating would be five stars. The Tuna Melt was comfort food perfected. Imagine this: Melted cheese on grilled bread was topped with amazingly seasoned tuna-salad and decorated with fresh tomato/lettuce. I didn't want to stop eating. And the vegetable beef soup was delicious as well. It's too bad the waitress forgot about us once we ordered and was served food. And yet, I'd go again. The lunch was that good. read more

Omg! This is our go to eatery in town. Gary, the owner is sweet, bright, ambitious & energetic. He knows what people want and serves it up in droves. The food is good, fresh, imaginatively paired and plentiful. We've never had a bad meal ever. The elders in town seem to really enjoy the restaurant, and Gary has priced everything to make anyone happy. There are nightly specials, and we go there for date night (never had a local place we liked well enough to even "do" a date) You simply cannot go wrong here. A perfectly pleasant local small town cafe. Nothing special. We visited on a day that appeared to catch them by surprise. They were completely understaffed. And this was very stressful, as we were stopping on a road trip and needed a little water and some decent food and not to feel like we were begging for help. Our food was fine. I asked for whole wheat grilled cheese for my girls, but they didn't get that right. My really only complaint is the price for what you are getting. I ordered a BLT with fries. The sandwich was perfectly pleasant (with whole wheat toast). But I seriously had about 8 lukewarm fries. For $10. And our drinks came with our meal - so we didn't even get that moment when you get off the road and need something cold to drink and a breath out of the car. It sounds like people like this cafe. It isn't a place we will stop at again. For an hour and $45, this wasn't worth our time or money. read more

My family of 5 stopped by here twice. Once on our way up north to Southern OR and once on our way back home to the Bay Area. We loved the friendly, warm, casual feel of the place. Which is very important when you've traveling with a 4 yr old, 2 yr. old, and 1 month old. I got the french toast with sausage patties both times and was not disappointed. They even let us hang out when they were suppose to be closed (we didn't know we were imposing, until we saw we were the only ones still left in the place) for my daughters to finish up their ice cream cones... which the owner offered at no charge. We didn't accept the ice cream for free as we didn't feel it would be fair. We gladly paid and hope to be enjoying the place again anytime we head out on a road trip up north. P.S.
