Absolutely delicious cuisine From Chef Gabriel! Jorge was an excellent & friendly hospitality Professional! Curt the Owner even said hello! Of course Freddy is awesome! Ambiance could use a little romantic touch but overall was nice!

I've seen this all the time, everytime I'm at Stanford University. Today, is the day I check-it-out. Today, I'm in the South Bay Area. I felt like going for some more Italian cuisine. Tonight, I'm here at Trellis Restaurant near Palo Alto. When I got here, I happen to actually meet the owner. The owner, asked me what I do for a living? And I kinda laughed. Then the owner goes and ask me again, what I do for a living? And I was like, I'm just in the neighborhood. There's some good people Working here. I was sat down in the Dining Room for awhile, when suddenly they offered to show me the Upstairs on the 2nd floor. So I took it. It's a very beautiful Banquet Room, and a perfect Venue or Event Space to throw a Party or Celebration. I appreciate, and glad they showed me around. And I saw something that really caught my eye on the menu, it's intriguing. I just got to have that Susan's downfall (TM): Cheese & herb Raviolis w/ Gorgonzola Cream Sauce & Toasted Almonds. I can tell the Ravioli was made fresh and In-House. The Pasta was Al dente. The Gorgonzola is so velvety, and Luxurious. I like how they put it under the Broiler for a moment. And the slivers of Almonds, was a nice touch, it makes it stand out. They even showed me how to dip the Bread in the Sauce at the end, that was the move, it was brilliant. It reminds me of the first time I had a Cheese Fondue 23 years ago. They get some points, for originality. I was thinking this was going to be a 3.9-4.3 stars, I was thinking I was going to give this 4.3 stars, I want to give this a 4.4 stars, this could be a 4.4 stars on a good day, but I give this 4.3/4.4 stars out of 5 stars. Bellísimo.

Went here on a Friday night with my homie. Not too crowded and opted for upstairs outdoor seating. Pretty hot day but there was a slight breeze. Definitely get the Riesling (5/5) so refreshing and I opted for the Parxxx Sole Fillet, orzo was a bit on the salty side. Homie got the prawns and finished it all. Highly recommended for italian feast with a nice outdoor ambiance.

Very nice decor and feel. They have a great outdoor seating area on the roof. They have a full bar and the drinks are good. They do take reservations as well as OpenTable reservations.

Trellis is a hidden gem. Food is consistently delicious...always tastes fresh and perfectly seasoned. They have the best carpaccio, also a fan of their lamb chops, fet prawns, and veal parmigiana. Staff is extremely friendly, very old school which makes for great ambiance! Check out their patio! Shout out to Gorge and Omar for always making me feel welcomed and being attentive.

5/5 for service, food, and patio vibes Disclaimer: was here for a private event of 50 people Pro: -the host is very inviting -excellent service as they were on top of the food, bread, and wine -the free WARM bread was everything with the really good olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette (best one I've had yet) -multiple heat lamps for the back patio Con: -in downtown so limited parking unless after 6pm, they said they have their own private lot but it's small and packed Dishes: -Apple and goat cheese salad: the glazed walnuts were delicious but the dressing was a bit too sour -salmon with orzo: very soft and moist, overall it was good -homemade tiramisu: was good? I'm not a big fan of tiramisu so I can't judge.

Not much has changed except the price. The food really blew me away. When I came here in the past, I guess I was on a frozen mocha diet. I ordered the lasagna ($27 with tax). I guess I wasn't expecting much but wow, you can taste the handmade pasta and bolognese sauce. It was delicious with the crispy edges. It also came with a small salad (because iykyk... fiber). It was a bit pricey for lunch but the quality was there. We are outside which was nice and shaded. Overall, good service, nice environment, and great food will keep me coming back here for more! The French toast was fluffy, buttery, and easily one of the highlights. The omelette with cream and mirin really hit the spot, and the breakfast wrap was also excellent. No complaints here. Drinks (3/5): The drinks tasted good, but we ordered them extra hot and they arrived cold, which was disappointing. You are also responsible to pick them up so stay close to the barrista id you need coffee. Ambiance (4/5): The atmosphere is lively and energetic, which gives the place a fun brunch vibe. That said, it can feel overcrowded. The seating is very tight, tables are pushed close together, and the line can get quite long. Service (2/5): This was unfortunately the biggest issue. One of our items was missed in the original order. When I went back to fix it, staff initially entered it as a separate order and told me there wasn't much they could do and that I'd need to pick it up as a to-go order. After multiple conversations, I asked them to simply combine it with our original order and bring it to our table, which they eventually agreed to. When our food arrived, the missing item was still missing. After checking with staff three separate times, we were eventually told they were "doing us a favor" by giving us someone else's to-go item. By that point, we had already finished most of our breakfast and were ready to leave. The staff seemed more focused on explaining how busy they were rather than taking ownership of the mistake, even though the issue started with the original order being missed. Overall, this is a solid 4-star if you go on a quieter day and you don't need much customer service because the food is absolutely worth trying. On a busy day, though, be prepared for a potential 2-star experience, mainly due to customer service.

One never really knows when any restaurant will close, really, but this place just felt like such a Palo Alto institution that it couldn't close, but it did. I had been here at least once before, in the 1990s, when I was in college and my brother worked in Palo Alto. That era feels like the zenith of this upscale chain's cultural relevance, which made my most recent return that much more interesting. I expected things to have changed or at least to have felt different, but my experience in 2025 was eerily similar to my previous experience in 199x: I was expecting to be annoyed by pretentiousness but was instead wowed by the food and the service, which was excellent. But because it felt exactly the same, it didn't feel timeless; it felt dated in a way that I know rationally things are dated, but I'm a very nostalgic person by nature, so I love old things. But Il Fornaio felt too dated either to catch up with the times or to care that they were passing it by. Our large party was originally seated in a cramped area, but they were happy to re-seat us in the patio, which was covered and had heat lamps. That change made all the difference in our experience, because I know my mom, brother, and I would have been itching to get out of here as soon as possible if we had eaten inside. Instead, we enjoyed our leisurely meal, and even though my nephew (a Stanford student) had to bike back to campus, we took our time and relaxed. I can't say I'm sad Il Fornaio is gone. I didn't come here for almost thirty years, and it's not as if the entire chain is closing--at least I haven't heard that it is.

Food was awesome: all the pastas we tried were nice and al dente, bread and calamari were delish as well. The real star of the show for me was the pizza! There appears to be a private room set up for parties too. iTalico used to be in the Michelin guide and the restaurant is somewhat misleading stating that they are a Michelin rated restaurant on the menu when they are no longer featured in the latest version...ethics? Started off with the fritelle fried pizza dough and it was the highlight of the evening with super light pizza dough, super tasty burrata along with some prosciutto. This was suggested by our waiter, whom was fantastic! For the mains, opted for the ribeye which was decent. Requested this medium rare and it turned out as such. It was also pre-cut which was a nice touch. The char on the steak was minimal...bummer. The marbling on the steak was also mediocre. The green beans were tasty though. The Paccheri Rustichella pasta was tasty and was served with some braised ribeye and vegetables. The side of shrimp were quite tasty and flavorful! Ended the meal with a trio of desserts, the tiramisu, the vanilla gelato, along with the pistacchio torte, all of which were excellent. The tiramisu had a ton of espresso making me wired for the rest of the evening! ;) There is a 3.5% employer surcharge making the meal at ~$120/head after tax and gratuity for dinner.

It is a bit difficult to eat as it is packed and wished the tomatoes were chopped up. I ordered the Carbonara Calabrese and never had carbonara with artichokes. It is a smaller portion for an Italian restaurant and unfortunately it was just okay. I really needed the crushed red pepper for more flavor. The guanciale had a bit too much fat for my liking. I'm very glad we took him up on the offer! The food was incredible. Our waitress, Kenya, was very knowledgable about the menu and made great recommendations. The best thing we had all night was the mussels appetizer. The red sauce was genuinely phenomenal and the toasted bread with it was perfect. That dish alone gave me high hopes. Unfortunately, almost everything after that missed the mark. The branzino was deconstructed tableside, which was a nice touch, but the fish itself was thin, underwhelming, and still had bones throughout it. Then when we asked for more of the bread from the mussel dish, we got this giant puffed pita-style bread instead, which totally confused us. The salad barely resembled a salad. There were maybe a handful of arugula leaves with scattered toppings, and it just didn't feel balanced or thought out. Then dessert came out cold, stale, and to make matters worse, there was literally a bug in the sauce. The wine was good and the service team itself was friendly, but the meal felt like one strange disappointment after another. Maybe this place shines more with traditional Italian dishes, but based on this experience I don't think I'd come back.
