I bought a bike here for my son and was considering getting one for myself. I went to the store three times until I made up my mind which bike I wanted to get for my son and he went for two test rides. I had a very positive experience with their sales staff (Alec and JD). They were super patient and not condescending at all (something I read in other reviews about TBL), even though I told them I am not a biker and didn't really know much. We took bikes out on two visits for test rides. Also, I had an old Fuji that I wanted to trade in and after a quick eval, they gave me the price that the Bike Bluebook had suggested, so I was happy with not having to haggle. In case you are wondering if I got a bike for myself - I didn't, but only because I found an unbeatable deal on a Specialized at a different LBS. Overall, a very positive and friendly experience. I went there 3 Saturdays in a row to test ride and purchase my new Trek and all 3 times I was extremely impressed with the staff of this shop. They are outstanding and knowledgeable. They don't try to upsell but instead they try to help you find what is best for your needs. They encourage you to test ride all the bikes that you are interested in. I saw the owner Todd those 3 times and was also very nice and friendly. When you go there you can see that all employees love what they are doing. I was in full crisis mode when my rear wheel started breaking spokes and I knew I had to either have it rebuilt or buy a new set. I only had three days before the shenandoah 100 race that I'd been training for all year and there wasn't enough time for any shop to rebuild the wheel. I called several stores in Maryland and Virginia and this shop was one of the only ones that had a good deal and could get me some wheels in time. That wasn't the impressive part...I also had replaced my middle chain ring with one that another store told me would work and it wasn't. When I came in to order my wheels the mechanic, "money", agreed to look at my bike even though they were 10 days backed logged in the shop and told me what I feared and three other shops either weren't able to or wouldn't; the chain ring I put on wouldn't work right. They happened to have the right chain ring in stock and, unlike other shops, agreed to install it right then just to make sure it would work well for the race. He fine tuned the bike and it worked flawlessly during the race. I wish I could say the same for my legs. The shop has awesome customer relations. Several people came in while I was there and the employees remembered their names and issues even if it had been a while since they last visited. I was really impressed with the whole operation. I'm on a racing team that works with another local shop where i get a good discount and I live in Maryland about 40 miles from this shop. Despite that, I am going to be using this shop as my go to shop. They also support many local races ( which is how I heard of them in the first place), rides and give back to the bike community in a meaningful way. Shop there and you're supporting local jobs, shops, and rewarding a business for doing things the right way. read more

I was in a hunt for a bike shop & store for my future NINER purchase I am planning to do for this summer of 2017. NINER directed me to their closest dealer to my home which is The Bike Lane in Old Keene Mill Rd., Springfield, VA 22152. For the bike I am planning to buy for $5K I said, I need a store and a shop who will sell and service my future FS NINER bike specifically RIP 9 RDO and a bike shop which also i can call my "home bike shop". One day I stopped in this shop which is only a half a mile away from my home. A man was in the counter while I'm looking around the store, I asked him about the NINER product and their service plan if i buy my NINER bike with them. He was clueless with NINER product they're carrying even with the other products they're carrying in their store. He doesn't even know that the NINER will have Demo Ride in their area 2 weeks from that day. And I've done my research about this NINER bike since I wanted to buy one. I think i will stick with my regular bike shop even they're 20 miles away from my home. Too bad they're so convenient to me since they are the closest and a NINER carrier bike store from my home. I will not even set my foot in this store ever again. And especially that the two of my bike buddies are now also convinced to buy a NINER bike. So, i guess this bike store just lost at least a 15K and a would have been a new three avid biker customers. read more

Bought my bike here about a year ago. I get lifetime service on my bike which is awesome. I went to this store three times before making my purchase. My first time going in I had someone who wasn't the kindest person on the market. I think my lack of knowledge kind of made him sound like a jerk to me, but i left shortly afterwards to go check other stores. My second visit I was encountered by Sy or Si, he would become the gentlemen who assisted me in getting my first actual bike. He was definitely much kinder and informative to me than the pervious employee. I was looking around from shop to shop to see which bike I really wanted to grab. Their promotion was supposed to end the day I first came but Si (we're gonna go with Si) assured me he'd give me the deal if I came this week. The next day I decided to grab one of the bikes he showed me but I work at 8 and they close at 8, I called and Si told me he'd wait for me. So I came in 30 minutes after they closed, purchased my bike and was set up and ready to go within 15-20 minutes. Really satisfied with the customer service. I came back today because my handles were loose. They fixed the problem, checked my tire pressure and pumped my tires up. Then made sure the seat was the proper level for me. I was in and out within 10 minutes. If I were to comment on anything, I do believe their accessories are a little bit pricey, but they're brand name. So it's probably worth the quality. Make sure to price check and ask the workers if they'd work a deal with you if you find something the same for cheaper. They have the same prices as everywhere else, if not, better pricing, but their customer service is what won me over. The bike is in great shape, it's lasted me hundreds of miles so far, and I plan on using it much, much more. That was definitely the first time I've ever spent $500 on a bike. Let's hope it's my last too. read more

Just moved back from Italy with my custom made road bike. These guys put it back together, and did a great job. Also found some slight scratches from the move which I would have never noticed, took pictures and everything for me. I agree the folks in the shop like Jay are incredibly good at what they do. Gave me plenty of info and the low down on places to bike, competitions, group rides, web sites, etc. for the local area. Jen is great with dealing with customers and I think their prices are really decent for the services and quality of service they provide. Highly recommend them to cyclists or triathletes. read more

I wanted to like the Bike Lane. I wanted to buy a bike, equipment and services from them. I wanted to patronize a small local business very close to my home. But I just won't be disrespected by employees in a service business, especially one where I may be spending hundreds of dollars. Over the years I've had several different employees who were negative and sarcastic to me. In the most recent situation, the employee wrote down the serial number of the bike he said could not be fixed "in case he sees it again". Huh? Not sure why he did that - was he thinking I would resell it and then the person would bring it to the BIke Lane, and then he would do what?? I am in the market for a nice new bike in honor of a milestone birthday and I definately won't be purchasing it at the Bike Lane. Hopefully they will see this review and rethink their employee training and supervision. Think the owners are out on rides too often while the customers walk (and don't ride) out the door. read more

This is a GREAT local bike shop. As an avid cyclist with minimal technical knowledge, it is refreshing to deal with professionals that don't treat you like an idiot. In 2005 I purchased a 17.5" Gary Fisher Tassajara from their Burke location. Sean was a great help and the owner, Todd, gave us a hand along the way as well. That bike has served me well and I recently decided to upgrade. Since the Tassajara was my second Fisher I figured I should start with GF. Adam from Reston was a big help with some initial questions I submitted through your online form. This past week I visited the Springfield store to ride the HiFi Deluxe and pick out a frame size. I have often felt a little crammed on my 17.5" Tass, so I wanted to be sure I got the right frame if spending $2500. I have to say that the staff was more than patient with me through this process. Christopher diligently adjusted and re-adjusted both a 17.5 and a 19 over and over for me, repeatedly sending me out for test rides. I was in that shop Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and finally purchased that evening. Not once did I feel pressure to hurry and make a decision. I never felt like I was taking up too much time. The staff was great about making sure that I was getting the right machine for me. Once we got the 17.5 dialed in I felt like it was a part of me. Sean jumped in and got my final check and adjustments pushed through service quickly, even suggesting a tire upgrade that paid off Saturday morning. Whatever it is that they have done to create the culture in their shop, I hope they keep doing it. I could have purchased this bike cheaper down the road, but the service I received from Chris and the gang was invaluable. I hear people talking about riding globally and buying locally all the time. Experiences like mine are what make people want to buy from their local shop. Keep up the great work. read more

Recently purchased two bikes at The Bike Lane in Springfield, and I could not be more pleased with the experience. Sean, Jen, Wayne, Chris, and the rest of the enthusiastic staff-- what a team. I drove 25-30min further than the closest bike shop just to take advantage of this team of professionals. Worth every minute of driving and drop of gas. If I had ANY issues whatsoever, they did everything they could to remedy the problem. Want a new bike? No problem. Want to put your old parts on a new frame? Bring it on. Have a special order in mind? Easy day. Not sure about what you want? They'll talk to you about the advantages and disadvantages of every single bike in the store if that's what's necessary. The staff talked me out of buying a 16" bike for my young son, noting that he'd grow out of it in a few months. My son is loving the 20" bike now, and he has a lot of room to grow into it, too. It's those types of insights that make The Bike Lane a really enjoyable place to visit, test ride, and make a purchase. Yeah, some people say that you can get a better deal on parts from the internet, but The Bike Lane taught me that you absolutely cannot put a dollar value on service. read more
