Solid food and friendly service in Clearlake. We had a veggie omelette and a chicken fried steak. The omelette came with veggies on top instead of inside with lots of melted cheese. The gravy on the chicken fried steak was great! (I should have asked for more.) The steak though was a bit tough. Maybe not pounded enough? Lots of butter on my English muffin, and red and green Tabascos were a nice touch.

Rich, classic diner flavors. The Trejo's Chicken Sandwich was almost perfectly executed: well-balanced and quite tasty, albeit the bread was a little too buttery. The Roberts Omelette was equally flavorful and a huge portion. They definitely use great, fresh ingredients.

Trejo's Diner in Clearlake. December 2023.

We first discovered Trejo's when in Clearlake late on a Sunday evening in November (2023) and were looking for a place to eat. We are very happy that we tried it since we have to be in Clearlake periodically right now and this place is excellent. It is now our go-to place in town. This place itself is ok; it's a small hole-in-the-wall place, fairly basic inside, but it has some outdoor seating which seems like it might be good in warmer weather. The food and service shine, though. Everything we have had has been great each time we've been there. The first time we went, it was, as I said, fairly late on a Sunday evening, about an hour before closing, and in the 30s outside but all the food came out hot and fresh, while the coleslaw, though at the end of the day,was perfect - nicely cured but still crisp. The chicken fried steak dinner is very good. The steak itself was nice, well cooked, and it came out hot and crispy, with plenty of good gravy on (4 stars, maybe 4.5). Fries were good (4). I got a side salad and although it was a simple diner salad, it was very good. The ingredients were all fresh and good quality - the tomatoes were ripe and juicy. The dressing was also good. (4). The Trejo's Chicken Sandwich is outstanding and each time we've had it, the sandwich has been consistently one of the bet sandwiches we have ever had. All of the ingredients are excellent, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The chicken is pounded thin and pan fried, the avocado just gently smashed, all the other ingredients put on perfectly. The bread is toasted, warm, and lightly crispy outside but still soft, and not hard. The chicken is hot. The lettuce is crispy and fresh. This sandwich is not only well conceived but so far has always been perfectly executed. (5 stars, and deserves more). The coleslaw is always excellent. It is always perfectly aged so the cabbage is just breaking down but still fresh and crispy. The dressing is just right and has excellent flavour. They don't put anything odd in it, either. (5 stars). The Hobo is similarly outstanding with a perfect mix of ingredients, perfectly prepared, not greasy. (5). One member of our family got the fish and chips the first time and although we did not have them, she said they were great and they looked good. Coffee is good, nothing special but hot and never weak or acrid. Service is good, friendly and enthusiastic.

Had to check out this restaurant due to the high rating reviews. It didn't disappoint in terms of the food quality. The portion sizes were generous and the pricing was reasonable. Restaurant isn't very big with only several tables inside, but there are a few outside. The staff didn't seem the friendliest and did look like they were in a bad mood. Not sure why. There were also bugs that kept flying inside.

Food was pretty good. Service was great waitresses made sure we had everything we needed. My first mimosa was a bit flat but they got me a new one.Love that they have breakfast all day The place could use some more ambiance. I would give it a try again.

About 25 years ago in Taos, New Mexico, at the Thunderbird Lodge, I was a ski bum and dishwasher. There was a gringo cook who made a thing called huevos rancheros. I am slightly neuro divergent and fell in love with the breakfast treat. I am also a shining love, and when I walked in, the first thing I said to Manager Mauricio was, "We will eat here if you have huevos rancheros." I cracked an inappropriate joke, and the cook, Antonio, said, "This guy," and proceeded to make an off-menu offering that was so delicious. Lupe, the server, came back, and I am sort of an expert on this dish. I told her when she said red or green chili that in New Mexico, that's called Christmas, and yes, that was what I would have. I don't eat a lot, so I ate about a third of the plate and saved the rest for the day. I noticed that Manager Mauricio told a table of four Latin folks that they serve huevos rancheros. That is how love energy works. This gringo hippie made something that will probably now be on the menu. We love you guys, and by the way, your huevos eclipse the biggest truck balls;)

I see why people love coming to this diner. The service is quick and friendly, the food is simple and delicious, the a/c is pumping inside and there is ample shaded outdoor patio seating to boot. I visited in mid June when on vacation in Clearlake. My friend recommended Trejo's for breakfast and I am so glad he did! I had a short stack of pancakes - 2 very generously sized fluffy cakes that hit the spot. My partner had the breakfast combo with two fried eggs, hash browns, rye toast and linguica sausage. Everything was cooked perfectly, nice runny egg yolk. Super tasty linguica. Very solid start to our day! Will most certainly visit again when in the area. Highly recommend!

I found a beautiful Airbnb in the hills for the four of us to stay for three days and two nights. Unfortunately, we rented a boat during a rapid bloom of cyanobacteria--also known as algae--which ruined our plans for swimming and tubing. Since we couldn't enjoy any water activities, we docked our boat outside a restaurant alongside others and went in for lunch. The place was surprisingly busy, with people sitting on the outdoor patio. I couldn't imagine enjoying a meal with the strong, unpleasant odor coming from the lake, so we were relieved to find the atmosphere inside much better. Inside, it felt more like a dark dive bar than a typical restaurant. The bar area was packed with what seemed to be college students, while booths and tables offered additional seating. We chose a high table near the ordering counter, where the lady behind it was friendly and helpful. The menu featured many options, but after our boat ride through the algae, the Cobb Salad was the only thing that appealed to me. I don't remember what everyone else ordered, though I'm sure my daughter stuck with her usual sweet potato fries. My Chicken Bacon Bleu Cheese Salad was huge, delicious, and visually stunning, with ingredients artfully arranged over fresh greens. It was the best salad I've ever had--ripe red tomatoes, creamy diced avocado, and sliced hard-boiled eggs. The grilled chicken provided tender, savory bites that contrasted perfectly with the crisp, crumbled bacon. And the blue cheese--earthy, bold, and sharp--was simply irresistible. My bad mood faded after that incredible salad. Everyone else seemed satisfied, even if I didn't notice exactly what they ate. I'm glad our meal at Richmond Park Bar & Grill turned the day around. Maybe when the lake is clearer, we'll come back for another visit.

Mind you that I have never in my entire life ever left a restaurant without paying. I'm no teenager so definitely can pay what I owe. And in fact, in the last few visits, have generously tipped the old mill staff at minimum 20-25%. When I chose to give them $100 to cover the bill they accused me of not paying the last time...they at first refused then proceeded to tell me the truth...that the machine they were using the night I was accused of not paying was not working and they had encountered multiple problems with different patrons that night...and many other payments had not gone through. In fact, they said after that they were forced to replace the entire system. So I ask, if you knew it was your system...why would you then accuse a patron of purposely not paying the bill. I stayed to eat. I even tipped extra. But after I left, I realized the situation put a distaste in my mouth. Hopefully the server and mgmt learn not to blame a Patti for their bad machine/system. That was in poor taste. That approach made the food tasted mediocre after that. Next time I'll think twice before I choose to come again.
