My wife and I recently ate here and enjoyed our meal. We were here on a Wednesday evening and were seated immediately in the dining room, where there were only about three other tables occupied. (The bar room was full of people). The waitress was friendly and helpful. We started with the Fried Oysters appetizer ($12), which was tasty (as oysters are!) but the breading was a bit heavy. We split an order of the New York Strip ($35 for 12 ounces), medium rare. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. This included soup, vegetables, and your choice of potato or rice pilaf. We came in at 2:00 pm no notice with 13 people. Staff and people there were all so nice and accommodating. They gave us our own room. Drinks were awesome and served quickly, food was good staff was excellent. Never had better service. read more

Used to be called Howards Grotto We came in on a Friday night in February. There was parking on the street but we went into the wrong door. There is one door for the restaurant and one door for the bar. We walked into the bar by mistake. The bartender said we would probably get faster service in the bar as it was busy in the restaurant so we sat at the bar. The bartender was nice, more friendly to the regulars, and the food was OK. We had the sppaghetti and meatballs which did not have much flavor. My husband had the fried scallops which were very oily. He had to put them on a napkin before eating to try and absorb some of the oil. The bread was the best part of the meal. read more

We came in mid-week for dinner and were the only ones in the dining room. Service was incredibly friendly and the place definitely had the feel of a beloved local hangout. The food was resolutely of the "previously frozen, reheated onsite" variety. Maybe the burgers are okay? I think I'd return for a beer at the bar, but I'll look for dinner elsewhere. read more

We went looking for a good steakhouse restaurant locally. This restaurant was the former Howard restaurant. It took a while to get served. I ordered medium rare, pink in the inside. But it came well done!! I returned my steak and worried I will wait for another hour for it. The server agreed with me. It came shortly. They gave us discount on our bill. I am writing this review at Stein & Wein because of what happened in Highlands Bar and Grill. When my family got seated, it started well until our server left and never came back. We sat at our table for a good 10 minutes and never even gave us our water. We ultimately decided to leave the restaurant and go to Stein & Wein (where we got water immediately). In conclusion, Highlands Bar and Grill's service was unsatisfactory and would not recommend to any people. (I was looking forward to my Surf and Turf!) read more

I ordered a steak, mash potatoes, and veggies and had it delivered to my hotel. My expectations were not high. However the food was amazing! The steak was hot, perfectly cooked, large, tender, juicy, and delicious. Loved the mash potatoes and my wife thought the veggies were great too. We had a rough day and this dinner (which we shared) helped it to be just a little better. One benefit of social media is that restaurants, and chefs, that excel, get rewarded. Service was slow... very slow! Food was good but my smoked sausage sandwich was more like chorizo on a bun and too spicy for me. I asked for ranch and he said " my bad, I forgot, I'm so busy" And the Chicken avocado wrap contains no Avocado and he sad " I don't know why they call it that, it must be on the sauce" They need more help!! The food was great! The service was beyond excellent and it is very clean and a nice atmosphere. My friend had the Red Snapper dinner with homemade mashed & gravy, green beans with bacon. I had a French Dip, literally piled high with tender fresh prime rib. Onion Rings are the best I've ever had & the Ranch Dressing was perfect. Will definitely come back again and again!!! read more

I'm going to give this place my HONEST opinion..... SERVICE - The bartender/waitress was excellent! Autumn was super nice, attentive and gracious. AMBIENCE - old school and outdated but clean and exactly what we expected. The dining furniture is probably from the 60's or 70's so kind of retro. The bar itself is not bad with several regulars handing out. Good selection of beer, wine and bourbon. FOOD - we went in for dinner and here's the result. Potato skin appetizer - very good and decent amount Bacon wrapped filet mignon - surprisingly it was very, very good! Cook to perfection and very tasty. (medium-rare) Mashed potatoes w/ brown gravy - awful!! Think instant potatoes and brown gravy out of a can. Vegetable soup - terrible. Again, probably out of can. Super salty. Vegetable side of carrots - decent taste but cut way to thick and not cooked long enough. Side salad - good with fresh lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber. It's too bad that two of the sides with that terrific steak were so bad, otherwise I definitely would have given them 5 stars. :-( read more

This is from our experience over the holidays in 2024 .Let me start by saying the People at the bar were yelling swears and vulgar words so loud you can hear it in the restaurant and the Tall woman bartending did not intervene. Real way to promote a family environment. The fried apps were premade we did not eat them except the onion rings they were edible.. The patty melt was a soggy disaster : ordered med rare was so well done it was like a brick. Scallops were overcooked soaked in oil and full of water. The clams shells were the size of a quarter ..The server was great that was the best part of the visit ,we did not say anything to the waitstaff as these days the internet is the way to address these issues. During our meal we watched the manager berating female employees in front of customers as it was deeply concerning and the owners need to address this. With such a history sad it has bad Management now.Hopefully when we come for the summer they will have made changes. read more

Really good service but the prices were very high and the servings were very small:( my house salad cost like 18$ and it only had like two ounces of grilled chicken and seemed to be more of a side to a main course ......... left still hungry and broke. Wouldn't suggest unless they adjust their quantity and prices read more
