As a total food snob who spent 6 years in LA and now living in San Diego, I'm used to big city restaurants with Michelin stars, designer interiors, and fancy menus. We spent the week up in Clear Lake at a family member's lake house, and went out to dinner for our final night. We heard this area was an old gold rush settlement town, so I was expecting a super simple and honestly mediocre dining experience. From the second we turned down Main St., my mind was changed for the better. The street is certainly quaint, but super cute. Blue Wing Saloon in particular has been modernized while still keeping that old town charm. We walked in the front door and were immediately greeted by both gals working the bar + outdoor seating. We were told we could sit wherever we wanted, and opted for a patio seat that had the great outdoor feel, but also a view to check in on Thursday Night Football ;) Kameron our waitress might've made my entire week. She was instantly SO bubbly, sweet, funny, and cool, while also being professional, gave great meal recommendations, and was so quick to refill waters, check in on us, etc. 100000/10 server experience. Now the food!! Again, me, food snob. Italian. Why do I keep ordering pasta in public? It's my favorite but half of the time it lets me down... not here!!! I ordered the jambalaya on special which was served in a tomato cream sauce and it was chef's freaking kiss. Flavorful sauce, great consistency, tons of fresh meat. The sauce tasted seriously homemade! My fiance got the fish and chips, which was recommended by Kameron as one of her faves, and he absolutely agreed. A lot of fish and chips have way too much breading in comparison to the fish meat, and this did not skimp out at all. I'm not even a huge fish and chips fan and I loved this meal paired with the tartar sauce! Oh she also happily let me order a lemon drop martini despite not explicitly being on the menu. We love a flexible drink order! We got appropriately (and easily) tempted into dessert and a rose liquor, mostly because I just loved the ambiance so much and kept wanting to hangout with Kameron! We were totally full but decided, why not.. We ordered the pound cake with fresh berries, and Kameron helped us workshop what we wanted the rose liquor to be served with, and she nailed it in hot toddy form. It was all around the most amazing post dinner treat I could've asked for. Every single aspect of this dining experience made my freaking week. Cannot wait to come back!!!! read more

During our return trip from Fort Bragg on Memorial Day weekend, we unexpectedly discovered a true treasure. This was our first visit to Blue Wing Saloon. I must say, it exceeded all our expectations! We arrived slightly early, and as we waited a friendly gentleman approached us inquiring if we needed assistance. Though the restaurant had not yet opened, he kindly spoke with the staff on our behalf. He invited us to sit in the charming, shaded courtyard. Which was perfect especially since we were accompanied by our sweet Boston Terrier. Our server Kameron was exceptional, attentive, knowledgeable, and delightful. She shared fascinating details about the historic buildings and their connection to the hotel, providing us with a booklet recounting the intriguing story of the Tallman family's legacy. Kameron also recommended the Blue Wings with a sweet-spicy Asian glaze as an appetizer. Without a doubt, the best chicken wings I have ever tasted! Her suggestion was spot on, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. My husband ordered the Fish & Chips, while I savored the Crispy Chicken Salad. Both dishes prepared to perfection. Our dog Winnie was treated to a generous beef dog patty. An impressive patty that left her a very happy girl. Our experience with Kameron truly made us fall in love with Tallman's. So much so that before leaving, I immediately made a reservation for July. The same courteous gentleman who initially greeted us was there to assist with this, offering to reserve a dinner reservation for the evening we arrive. He even offered to show us one of their dog-friendly Main Street Suites. The suite was absolutely stunning. The hospitality we received throughout our visit was exemplary. I am now more excited about our upcoming stay at Tallman's than even our planned trip to the beach house in Fort Bragg. Every member of the staff went above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Blue Wing Saloon and the Tallman Hotel to anyone seeking outstanding service, exceptional food, and drinks! read more

A sweet local go to tucked on Main Street in Upper Lake. Inside there's a lovely bar, outside there's a nice shaded patio facing the old hotel. On the deck of the hotel, you can find local live music. On this particular Sunday, there was blues. Service is kind, friendly and welcoming. Drinks are master crafted, plus a decent selection of local wine and beer. Don't miss the Bloody Mary. I enjoyed. l brut bubbles. I had the fresh, warm, cinnamon sugar dusted donuts served with fruit compote. Delicious. Then - also enjoyed Chicken and French Toast. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection. 10/10 would recommend to anyone in the area! This place is a hidden gem. The food was fantastic! My husband and I got the Seafood Special and Fish & Chips and had leftovers. The swordfish melted in my mouth and the asparagus was the perfect consistency. The battered fish was crispy and flavorful. The waffle churro was a great dessert to end our meal with. Our waitress Kameron had stellar suggestions for everything and provided great service. We sat indoors in the air conditioning, though the outdoor seating also looked beautiful. Oh wow , on my previous trip to blue wing last month I wanted to do an updated review however the service wasn't great and after waiting several months to go back I was very bummed .... So I decided to try again and OMG it did not disappoint they have crab cake special going on right now and they were delicious I want to go back again just to get more of those! Plus they were reasonably priced for a good size !! I've been a fan of the build your own pasta for two trips now ! The house made sauce is amazing every time ! I love how their seasonal items change and there's always soemthing new to look forward too ! My service was wonderful, I sat at the bar and the waitress was so quick with every request !! A Heartbreaking Decline at a Local Favorite: I never thought I'd be writing this review for a place that is usually our "go-to," but after our experience on Mother's Day, I am beyond disappointed. This restaurant is typically on point, but tonight was a complete failure from the kitchen and management. ​The food was, frankly, unacceptable. I ordered the pork chop, which was nearly all bone and should never have been served. To make matters worse, almost everything on the plate was undercooked--including the pork and the vegetables. Some veggies were simultaneously overcooked and mushy, while the potatoes felt like a flavorless afterthought and were also under-done. We started with the calamari, but what arrived was unappetizingly large; it literally still had a face, which made it impossible to eat. ​The most frustrating part was the clear lack of support for the staff. On one of the busiest days of the year, the scheduling was a disaster. There was only one waitress and one bartender trying to cover several sections. Even with live music outside and a packed house requiring reservations, management left the floor severely understaffed. ​I do want to give credit where it's due: our waitress was very apologetic when we complained and truly tried her best to make things right. It was clear she was set up for failure by whoever handled the schedule. ​Sadly, both my husband and I feel physically unwell after this meal, and we are truly hoping we didn't walk away with food poisoning. This was a devastating experience at one of the few remaining local spots in Lake County. I hate for this to be our last impression, but after tonight, we are forced to look elsewhere. read more

The atmosphere was very nice. Lovely little restaurant with character. But unfortunately they do not have a lot of options for dinner so I got a $21 cheeseburger, which in my opinion that is very overpriced and not worth it. But another person got their lemon pasta entree and loved it. We were served by Angela p. who was very talkative and seemed nice. But when it came time for the check and we said yes when she asked if we'd like our change back (about $20) she seemed a lot less energetic and did not give the full change back (a dollar and something so not too bad but still bad manners). It even seemed as though she had said something about not receiving a tip to the bartender and having to give change back. My dad did leave her a $10 tip because she was a nice server but the attitude towards the end was not costumer friendly. Hopefully others have a better experience because the photos of the food look amazing. read more

I think I may have eaten the best veggie burger I've ever had this weekend. This patty was made with beets and chickpeas and oh goodness it was delicious. The burger toppings went so well, creamy whipped feta and a tang from the pickled onion. My husband got a wild burger and said it also had great toppings and he hasn't had a burger like it before. The ambience was great here. The outdoor patio was so cute and the live music from the hotel patio next door was a nice touch. Service was good and quick as well. read more

If you like spicy it's your type of place. Old time ambience ( place is over 100 years old) Menu has a few favorites that I like Beef Wellington and the Salmon plate and the Jambalaya ( spicy) but good. Food is on the high side in price. But it a REALLY nice place with outdoor dining and live music just about every night. A beautiful old time hotel next door. With people coming from around the world to stay. Last but not least, is the staff. They're incredibly attentive and friendly. Their goal is to make sure your stay or evening out is memorable. Good times there for us and we'll be back Check'm out. The good bad ugly. Good: Busy. Music outside in a Tuesday. Had the limonencello cheesecake. Very tasty. Chocolate torte was always delicious. Bad: short staff. Couldn't sit outside Ugly. Short tempered impatient wait staff. What was poured in a tall regular wine glass was not a port wine. When we questioned Andrea, bartender, she said it's petite Sirah it's all we have. We just went to the Cache Creek winery. It's wasn't the cache creeke petite syrah. When the bill came we were charged for the chacewater regular petite sirah. When we asked Andrea again about it she didn't care to hear what we had to say she took it off the bill. If you are a regular they are friendly and personable but if you are out of town you will be snubbed and patronized with a sarcastic have a nice day. Not just once but Andrea stepped outside and shouted at us with a sarcastic tone "thanks for coming have a nice night". We didn't leave a tip because we were so dissatisfied with the rude service. We were up front when we came in an hour before closing and asked to sit outside, we just wanted dessert and drinks and we were forced to sit inside because it was crowded outside there was only one waiter and she had tables to clear. We came here for dinner on a nice summer evening. It's located in an old town that maintains its Wild West charm from the 1800s. I loved walking down the street from our parking spot to the saloon. We were able to get a table outside and enjoyed live music. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich which came with fries, as well as the Mediterranean flatbread. A few others at our table had the pasta primavera and the jambalaya. I sampled the jambalaya and it was delicious! I may go for that if I'm back in the area again! I will say though, portions were smaller than I expected for the prices of the food, so you may need more than one entree if you have larger appetite. Happy eating! read more

This is by far the BEST place to eat in Lake County. I've tried a variety of restaurants all around the lake for over 2 decades and every time someone gives a recommendation I'm always disappointed. This place does NOT disappoint. The Blue Wings were crispy and packed full of flavor. The 3 dipping sauces are each flavorful and amazing! My husband got the chicken tikka masala tacos-- WOW! They came on crispy, buttery paratha and the chicken was seasoned superbly and the sauce and condiments all complimented each other. The 2 tacos were a surprisingly sizeable portion. It was a solid meal! I got the Veggie Burger. It's a homemade black rice and beet patty on a pretzel bun with whipped feta and an aioli. The patty was so flavorful with a nice crisp outside and tender middle. The staff is wonderful! So helpful and friendly. The vibe is cozy and comfortable. You wanna stay and just hang out. Our golden retriever got to hang out on the heated veranda with us while we ate. This place is a 10/10! Not just for Lake County. This would be one of my favorite spots even if it was smack in the middle of a big city. Happy dining! read more
