During our return trip from Fort Bragg on Memorial Day weekend, we unexpectedly discovered a true treasure. This was our first visit to Blue Wing Saloon. I must say, it exceeded all our expectations! We arrived slightly early, and as we waited a friendly gentleman approached us inquiring if we needed assistance. Though the restaurant had not yet opened, he kindly spoke with the staff on our behalf. He invited us to sit in the charming, shaded courtyard. Which was perfect especially since we were accompanied by our sweet Boston Terrier. Our server Kameron was exceptional, attentive, knowledgeable, and delightful. She shared fascinating details about the historic buildings and their connection to the hotel, providing us with a booklet recounting the intriguing story of the Tallman family's legacy. Kameron also recommended the Blue Wings with a sweet-spicy Asian glaze as an appetizer. Without a doubt, the best chicken wings I have ever tasted! Her suggestion was spot on, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. My husband ordered the Fish & Chips, while I savored the Crispy Chicken Salad. Both dishes prepared to perfection. Our dog Winnie was treated to a generous beef dog patty. An impressive patty that left her a very happy girl. Our experience with Kameron truly made us fall in love with Tallman's. So much so that before leaving, I immediately made a reservation for July. The same courteous gentleman who initially greeted us was there to assist with this, offering to reserve a dinner reservation for the evening we arrive. He even offered to show us one of their dog-friendly Main Street Suites. The suite was absolutely stunning. The hospitality we received throughout our visit was exemplary. I am now more excited about our upcoming stay at Tallman's than even our planned trip to the beach house in Fort Bragg. Every member of the staff went above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Blue Wing Saloon and the Tallman Hotel to anyone seeking outstanding service, exceptional food, and drinks! read more

We used to love Blue Wing--it was one of our favorite places to eat. My husband and I went in expecting another delicious meal, but unfortunately we left disappointed and barely touched our food. We ordered pasta dishes (the Alfredo and the ravioli with white sauce), and both sauces were extremely bland. They were watery, almost milk-like, and had virtually no flavor. It was really surprising because this restaurant used to be known for its great food. We didn't say anything while we were there because it was only about 30 minutes before closing, and we didn't want to be those customers or inconvenience the staff. We simply paid our bill and left. Since the new ownership, it's clear that something has changed. Whether it's the menu, ingredients, or chef, the heart of this place doesn't seem to be the same anymore. It's disappointing because this used to be one of our go-to spots. I hope the new owners take customer feedback to heart and make improvements, because we'd love to see Blue Wing return to what made it so special. read more

Oh wow , on my previous trip to blue wing last month I wanted to do an updated review however the service wasn't great and after waiting several months to go back I was very bummed .... So I decided to try again and OMG it did not disappoint they have crab cake special going on right now and they were delicious I want to go back again just to get more of those! Plus they were reasonably priced for a good size !! I've been a fan of the build your own pasta for two trips now ! The house made sauce is amazing every time ! I love how their seasonal items change and there's always soemthing new to look forward too ! My service was wonderful, I sat at the bar and the waitress was so quick with every request !! A Heartbreaking Decline at a Local Favorite: I never thought I'd be writing this review for a place that is usually our "go-to," but after our experience on Mother's Day, I am beyond disappointed. This restaurant is typically on point, but tonight was a complete failure from the kitchen and management. ​The food was, frankly, unacceptable. I ordered the pork chop, which was nearly all bone and should never have been served. To make matters worse, almost everything on the plate was undercooked--including the pork and the vegetables. Some veggies were simultaneously overcooked and mushy, while the potatoes felt like a flavorless afterthought and were also under-done. We started with the calamari, but what arrived was unappetizingly large; it literally still had a face, which made it impossible to eat. ​The most frustrating part was the clear lack of support for the staff. On one of the busiest days of the year, the scheduling was a disaster. There was only one waitress and one bartender trying to cover several sections. Even with live music outside and a packed house requiring reservations, management left the floor severely understaffed. ​I do want to give credit where it's due: our waitress was very apologetic when we complained and truly tried her best to make things right. It was clear she was set up for failure by whoever handled the schedule. ​Sadly, both my husband and I feel physically unwell after this meal, and we are truly hoping we didn't walk away with food poisoning. This was a devastating experience at one of the few remaining local spots in Lake County. I hate for this to be our last impression, but after tonight, we are forced to look elsewhere. read more

What a nostalgic experience to return here after 5 years. The food and ambiance are still as charming and welcoming as we remember. We dined here for Sunday brunch on the charming patio again and this time they had live music in the courtyard. Food and drinks were delicious and service was incredibly friendly. I think I may have eaten the best veggie burger I've ever had this weekend. This patty was made with beets and chickpeas and oh goodness it was delicious. The burger toppings went so well, creamy whipped feta and a tang from the pickled onion. My husband got a wild burger and said it also had great toppings and he hasn't had a burger like it before. The ambience was great here. The outdoor patio was so cute and the live music from the hotel patio next door was a nice touch. Service was good and quick as well. read more

If you like spicy it's your type of place. Old time ambience ( place is over 100 years old) Menu has a few favorites that I like Beef Wellington and the Salmon plate and the Jambalaya ( spicy) but good. Food is on the high side in price. But it a REALLY nice place with outdoor dining and live music just about every night. A beautiful old time hotel next door. With people coming from around the world to stay. The good bad ugly. Good: Busy. Music outside in a Tuesday. Had the limonencello cheesecake. Very tasty. Chocolate torte was always delicious. Bad: short staff. Couldn't sit outside Ugly. Short tempered impatient wait staff. What was poured in a tall regular wine glass was not a port wine. When we questioned Andrea, bartender, she said it's petite Sirah it's all we have. We just went to the Cache Creek winery. It's wasn't the cache creeke petite syrah. When the bill came we were charged for the chacewater regular petite sirah. When we asked Andrea again about it she didn't care to hear what we had to say she took it off the bill. If you are a regular they are friendly and personable but if you are out of town you will be snubbed and patronized with a sarcastic have a nice day. Not just once but Andrea stepped outside and shouted at us with a sarcastic tone "thanks for coming have a nice night". We didn't leave a tip because we were so dissatisfied with the rude service. We were up front when we came in an hour before closing and asked to sit outside, we just wanted dessert and drinks and we were forced to sit inside because it was crowded outside there was only one waiter and she had tables to clear. My only complaint is that the live music is too freaking loud. Then during breaks piping the radio is annoying. When it did not, we asked for bread and what we got was 4 small pieces that were cold (from the refrigerator?) and no butter, not what we usually expect. The surprise was they charged us $8.00. We came here for dinner on a nice summer evening. It's located in an old town that maintains its Wild West charm from the 1800s. I loved walking down the street from our parking spot to the saloon. We were able to get a table outside and enjoyed live music. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich which came with fries, as well as the Mediterranean flatbread. A few others at our table had the pasta primavera and the jambalaya. I sampled the jambalaya and it was delicious! I may go for that if I'm back in the area again! This is by far the BEST place to eat in Lake County. I've tried a variety of restaurants all around the lake for over 2 decades and every time someone gives a recommendation I'm always disappointed. This place does NOT disappoint. The Blue Wings were crispy and packed full of flavor. The 3 dipping sauces are each flavorful and amazing! My husband got the chicken tikka masala tacos-- WOW! They came on crispy, buttery paratha and the chicken was seasoned superbly and the sauce and condiments all complimented each other. The 2 tacos were a surprisingly sizeable portion. It was a solid meal! I got the Veggie Burger. It's a homemade black rice and beet patty on a pretzel bun with whipped feta and an aioli. The patty was so flavorful with a nice crisp outside and tender middle. The staff is wonderful! So helpful and friendly. The vibe is cozy and comfortable. You wanna stay and just hang out. Our golden retriever got to hang out on the heated veranda with us while we ate. This place is a 10/10! Not just for Lake County. I love this place, the atmosphere is fantastic. It has a beautiful home town feel with an upscale vintage vibe and live music. Normally I don't like to dine alone but recently on a solo trip I had dinner at the bar and was greeted with a welcoming smile and congenial conversation by the Bartender Andrea. She made me a popular local drink, Mendo Sour, as well as quickly serving up my favorite items, the Burrata Caprese and the Blue Wing Burger. Great atmosphere, great food, great service,. The food was terrible...I mean inedible terrible and although there were 3 waitresses working they spent their time chatting at the bar while drinks got warm and food got cold.
