Rich, classic diner flavors. The Trejo's Chicken Sandwich was almost perfectly executed: well-balanced and quite tasty, albeit the bread was a little too buttery. The Roberts Omelette was equally flavorful and a huge portion. They definitely use great, fresh ingredients.

About 25 years ago in Taos, New Mexico, at the Thunderbird Lodge, I was a ski bum and dishwasher. There was a gringo cook who made a thing called huevos rancheros. I am slightly neuro divergent and fell in love with the breakfast treat. I am also a shining love, and when I walked in, the first thing I said to Manager Mauricio was, "We will eat here if you have huevos rancheros." I cracked an inappropriate joke, and the cook, Antonio, said, "This guy," and proceeded to make an off-menu offering that was so delicious. Lupe, the server, came back, and I am sort of an expert on this dish. I told her when she said red or green chili that in New Mexico, that's called Christmas, and yes, that was what I would have. I don't eat a lot, so I ate about a third of the plate and saved the rest for the day. I noticed that Manager Mauricio told a table of four Latin folks that they serve huevos rancheros. That is how love energy works. This gringo hippie made something that will probably now be on the menu. We love you guys, and by the way, your huevos eclipse the biggest truck balls;)

Great little diner, the food was very good & large portions, but best part was staff cause they were very friendly & joking around with us when we asked about danny trejo being owner or not. Its small inside but not noisy even full of people. They have an outside patio too.great place in clearlake if you visit, definitely recommend!

Trejo's Diner in Clearlake. December 2023.

We first discovered Trejo's when in Clearlake late on a Sunday evening in November (2023) and were looking for a place to eat. We are very happy that we tried it since we have to be in Clearlake periodically right now and this place is excellent. It is now our go-to place in town. This place itself is ok; it's a small hole-in-the-wall place, fairly basic inside, but it has some outdoor seating which seems like it might be good in warmer weather. The food and service shine, though. Everything we have had has been great each time we've been there. The first time we went, it was, as I said, fairly late on a Sunday evening, about an hour before closing, and in the 30s outside but all the food came out hot and fresh, while the coleslaw, though at the end of the day,was perfect - nicely cured but still crisp. The chicken fried steak dinner is very good. The steak itself was nice, well cooked, and it came out hot and crispy, with plenty of good gravy on (4 stars, maybe 4.5). Fries were good (4). I got a side salad and although it was a simple diner salad, it was very good. The ingredients were all fresh and good quality - the tomatoes were ripe and juicy. The dressing was also good. (4). The Trejo's Chicken Sandwich is outstanding and each time we've had it, the sandwich has been consistently one of the bet sandwiches we have ever had. All of the ingredients are excellent, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The chicken is pounded thin and pan fried, the avocado just gently smashed, all the other ingredients put on perfectly. The bread is toasted, warm, and lightly crispy outside but still soft, and not hard. The chicken is hot. The lettuce is crispy and fresh. This sandwich is not only well conceived but so far has always been perfectly executed. (5 stars, and deserves more). The coleslaw is always excellent. It is always perfectly aged so the cabbage is just breaking down but still fresh and crispy. The dressing is just right and has excellent flavour. They don't put anything odd in it, either. (5 stars). The Hobo is similarly outstanding with a perfect mix of ingredients, perfectly prepared, not greasy. (5). One member of our family got the fish and chips the first time and although we did not have them, she said they were great and they looked good. Coffee is good, nothing special but hot and never weak or acrid. Service is good, friendly and enthusiastic.

Had to check out this restaurant due to the high rating reviews. It didn't disappoint in terms of the food quality. The portion sizes were generous and the pricing was reasonable. Restaurant isn't very big with only several tables inside, but there are a few outside. The staff didn't seem the friendliest and did look like they were in a bad mood. Not sure why. There were also bugs that kept flying inside.

Food was pretty good. Service was great waitresses made sure we had everything we needed. My first mimosa was a bit flat but they got me a new one.Love that they have breakfast all day The place could use some more ambiance. I would give it a try again.

I see why people love coming to this diner. The service is quick and friendly, the food is simple and delicious, the a/c is pumping inside and there is ample shaded outdoor patio seating to boot. I visited in mid June when on vacation in Clearlake. My friend recommended Trejo's for breakfast and I am so glad he did! I had a short stack of pancakes - 2 very generously sized fluffy cakes that hit the spot. My partner had the breakfast combo with two fried eggs, hash browns, rye toast and linguica sausage. Everything was cooked perfectly, nice runny egg yolk. Super tasty linguica. Very solid start to our day! Will most certainly visit again when in the area. Highly recommend!

$2.50 extra for this addition to your omelette

$2.50 extra for this addition to an omelette. No thx. Omelette itself was delicious and trejos is usually top notch. But then again they do this occasionally as well.

It came with a HUGE side of potato salad that reminded me of my mom's ~ overall deliciousness. Today, I had a delicious eggs Benedict with a generous helping of country potatoes. I'm going to breakfast there tomorrow, too. The owners/waitstaff are lovely, cheerful, and friendly. The cafe is clean, prices are reasonable, AND they filter the chlorine from the drinking water ~ another plus! So far, the food has been above 'average', presents well upon serving, hitting the bells on color, texture, AND taste. Try it; I don't believe you'll have ANY regrets... Next day: Had the Mom's Omelet but requested Monterrey Jack cheese instead of Swiss. AGAIN, got fed a healthy, nutritious breakfast. I'm really impressed with this very welcoming and happy place. Coffee is good and they refilled my thermos with their filtered water, not available next door. I'll probably hit them up for a meal before I head back to Grass Valley tomorrow. Great go-to for a nice meal

A busy locals spot, we were not greeted walking in but grabbed a table and someone came over with menus a few minutes later and asked if we wanted coffee. About five or so minutes later another person stopped by our table to take our order. Our food arrived timely enough but was literally dropped off by another person with no interaction. Paper menus were well used. After looking it over I went for the Dads favorite omelet, with applewood smoked chicken sausage, mushrooms and onions, jack and cheddar. Hashbrowns and toast on the side. A big breakfast, it was okay and met my needs that morning but just okay. Not the most friendly folks, no hello walking in and no thanks or good bye going out. The orange juice is fresh squeezed!! Eggs are cooked perfectly every time and the regular egg plates give you 3 eggs, which I appreciate because I love eggs and am a total egg snob. They know how to cook an egg so the yolk is runny and warm, but the white is perfectly set and neither runny nor burnt. Not an easy feat! The plates are gleaming and there is always a pretty piece of fruit on the plate. The hash browns are crispy, the pancakes are awesome and you can get real maple syrup. The servers are always smiling and aim to please. You have two kinds of sausage to choose from and both and really really good. The California Benedict is delicious - it has avocado and bacon bits! Oh - and that delicious orange juice? It makes delicious mimosas, too! Trying to find "something" to improve? Well, the gravy for the biscuits and gravy is pretty bland - they could use some salt and spices. Oh, and the chandeliers are just weird and gives out the Hilton convention center vibe rather than the sweet diner vibe, which it deserves. But you cannot go wrong with Kelly's!! Also -- the owner is a very sweet man who works hard cooking in the kitchen - he has his eyes on everything to make sure you get a great meal.

The diner itself is clean, neat, and well maintained, and right away we noticed how friendly the staff was. Our server, May, was a total sweetheart--very kind, accommodating, and attentive. She truly stood out and made us feel welcome. Honestly, she would be a great manager if she isn't already. Unfortunately, there were a few issues. The first thing we noticed was that there was no hot water in the bathroom, which isn't ideal--especially on a cold night and from a hygiene perspective. Ray ordered the ribeye steak and was pretty disappointed. While it was $28, it lacked flavor and didn't have a proper sear or crust--it was gray and just not enjoyable. I ordered the vintage burger on toasted sourdough, and that was actually very good. I enjoyed it and thought it was well done. I really like to give full stars when they're deserved, but this experience just didn't quite add up. Great service and a clean space, but the food inconsistency and no hot water made it hard to rate higher. Hopefully these are things that can be improved because the staff--especially May--was excellent.

Our server shared the special of the day, what wasn't currently available and when asked of his favorite quickly responded with some gems. My partner knew exactly what she wanted - Pineapple Cauliflower Salad22 (Crispy Asian cauliflower, mixed greens, cabbage, carrots, peanuts, crispy rice noodles, sesame seeds, crunchy garlic, pineapple pico, green onions, and edamame with a Basil-lime vinaigrette 1/2 Cauliflower salad). I had a bite and it was very flavorful. The cauliflower looked like orange chicken. This dish is vegan btw. I was torn between the fish and chips and the Jalapeno Bacon burger. The server said it was a favorite earlier so I went with it. (Grilled Short Rib, Brisket, Chuck patty served on a toasted brioche bun with melted cheddar cheese, bacon, fried jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, and onions with our overloaded sauce). Man was this good! The burger was juicy, the thick cuts of bacon and the sauce. Everything complimented one another nicely. They make their ketchup in house throughout the week. You can tell too! It has it's own flavor that outdoes regular ketchup. The fries were crispy, lightly salted and just enough. Service was friendly. We were checked on throughout our meal to ensure the food was good and so were we. They do offer a rewards program we signed up for. This is definitely going to be a go to spot for us.
