I started my apartment hunt on my own, but quickly found the sheer amount of options almost…read moreimpossible to wade through. A friend of mine referred me to a realtor that worked at City Wide Realty. I reached out to him but found out he was no longer there, and he referred me to another realtor within the company named Claire. I reached out to Claire, set up an appointment to go over what I was looking for apartment wise, and the adventure began. Upon arriving at the meeting, we sat down and started discussing my wants, financials, etc. She listened to everything I wanted - a fair amount of square footage for affordable rent, hardwood floors, an in unit washer and dryer, newer construction, someplace with a good rating, quiet neighbors, lots of storage space, a pool, and someplace to walk my dog. A few days later, I returned to her office, and she went over the properties she had found. Claire mapped out a few apartment communities based on my criteria, and later that day, we drove out to one on the list. The first apartment, and actually the only one we looked at, was the Amli Covered Bridge off West Highway 71 right past the Y at Oakhill. Although a bit farther out than I had initially wanted, almost as soon as I stepped out of the car, I felt like I was home. Claire and I met with an apartment leasing agent, and we toured a couple of apartment floorplans. We returned to the leasing office to review the available units. I had my heart set on a third story place, but there was a first story apartment with a yard available, and I pounced on it. I started the application that day and heard I had been approved a few days later. It's been almost 4 months since I signed my lease and I am still in love with this apartment! I will never look for another apartment without the help of City Wide Realty. They offered a personal, professional experience that was unmatched by any other locator service. I gave Jordan the phone number to the management properly that I eventually rented from! I would not recommend Jordan or his company for two reasons. 1.) After explaining to Jordan what I was looking for a lower crime neighborhood and less transient people. Jordan recommended The Summit apartments where residents expressed numerous transient issues. (Jordan does not know the properties at all he is just in sell mode to get his commission) 2.) They, Jordan and Smart City, are just interested in "closing the deal" and have very little sway with the properties. They, Smart City, doesn't hit multiple properties. Smart city just pushes the properties on a preselected list where I suspect Smart City gets the most commission. The leadership cannot be that great if this is their business plan! Push the properties on their preselected list! Like I said I had to go to the neighborhood that I liked, 45th and Guadalupe, and get a flier from one of the properties and then call the properties listed on the flier. I ended getting the apartment on my own. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.. Smart City only wants to close the deal and collect full commission on the least amount of effort on their part. I will not do business again with Smart City! Such a waste of time!

I found her through serendipitous luck on the internet and I'm so thankful at my good fortune! One of the things I like most about Judy as my apartment locator is that she's incredibly honest. I still remember walking up to the front of an apartment complex long ago and her asking the employee if they were going to do something about the dead foliage out front because it wasn't attractive. I thought this was great because this complex is home for a lot of people and it should look nice! This honesty moves into the apartments themselves as well...if SHE wouldn't live there, she'll tell you (or won't even take you to a place she wouldn't live if she knows she wouldn't live there ahead of time). No amount of commission from any apartment complex would compromise her integrity nor her commitment to her clients. She knows what's a good deal because of the length of time she has been in this business. If a 1-1 with detached garage at such-and-such apartment is currently on special for $699, girl you better take that because it hasn't been that low in ages! Working with Judy takes the stress out of apartment hunting. I send her an email with the specs I'm looking for, such as number of bedrooms, bathrooms, pets, washer/dryer connections or in unit, if I have a floor preference, garage or covered parking, etc (it could go on and on if you want to get really specific); the location parameters, like between I-35/Mopac and 183/2222; the date I'd like to move in by; and the amount of money I'm willing to pay. She does all of the legwork by making the calls to apartments to get prices, availability, and amenities. We meet up to take tours of the apartments I've selected from her list, I make a decision, and that's it! Or, she goes back to the drawing board if I don't like any of them. But I don't owe her a penny because the service is free. I will continue to use Judy for all of my future apartment-locating needs, although here's hoping I won't need her services anytime soon because the most recent apartment she found for us has been awesome thus far.
