First time, had to wait in line for an hour on a weekday morning during relatively off-peak season (late September). Second time, showed up right at 9 AM and only waited 15 minutes. I had their dirty chai and it was great. Not much of a coffee-drinker otherwise, so can't vouch for their drinks, but their setup was super fancy. For breakfast--the huevos ranchero and the egg and cheese biscuit. Wow, both were delectable. The biscuits were amazingly moist and fluffy (and huge). There are definitely some pros and cons to this place... PROS: Unique setting in the Scarborough Faire Shopping Center close to the boardwalk, other shops and surrounded by trees. Decent amount of seating and spread out so your not on top of one another. Some activities for kids to do while waiting. Food was AMAZING. (I had the crab cake breakfast sandwich but my family tried 3 other items and everyone really loved what they had.) I also liked that they posted the wait time for food. I thought that was very helpful so you can decide if you have the time or not to wait. Being able to find a table outside and have our food brought to us wherever we were sitting was also nice. CONS: I felt the drinks were overpriced. $4 for just black coffee I pour myself? Not to mentioned the prices of the other drinks. Also, for a coffee shop I would have expected more than 2 choices of coffee. Most gas stations offer more than 2 flavors... and they are not in the coffee business. Kind of makes it seem like Treehouse really only wants to cater to people who want drinks requiring a barista. Speaking of drinks... I feel it would make a TON more sense to have 2 registers/lines and have one dedicated to those who want drinks only. It would shorten the wait for everyone. I am not sure where people would sit on a rainy day. It didn't appear there was a lot of seating inside and even on the sunny day we were there the inside was packed with people waiting. I would probably go back to Treehouse Coffee again for the food for sure, but as someone who just drinks coffee (no specialty drinks) I'd save my money and drink what I have at home. Make sure you have lots of time in your day for the trip though! We waited about 20 mins to order, 40 mins for food and then it was another 20 or so til we were done. Okay- It's comforting that some Yelpers recognized their bad service. The cashier looked bothered by our visit- I guess that our family does not looked polished enough or surfer enough. This spot is totally over-rated in my opinion. The coffee was okay - it's organic though. Not many unique drink options. I would say go check out duck cottage- it's walking distance through the broad walk and you get friendly staff and delicious coffee. read more

If you can find it, you'll love it! It's tucked way back in the Scarborough Fair plaza so don't count on seeing a road sign. We found underground parking in the adjacent plaza (didn't see any tow signs or warnings) but it looked like there was ample parking here too. We only parked there because we couldn't find it. But come hungry because you will be very full when you leave. I would say that the best item on the menu was the huge biscuit that could feed 4. Big, soft and delicious! There is both inside and outside seating (dog friendly) but we chose outside. That was a mistake though because the flies wanted to enjoy our breakfast too! We'll be back here again tomorrow but will make it a point to eat inside. As far as the food, everything was delicious. I've been coming to Treehouse for years now as my family has a house in Duck and this time I was really disappointed in the customer service. I ordered a latte with oat milk and watched the barista make several different coffees using whole milk. When I tasted my coffee, it didn't taste like oat milk so I asked to verify and her response was "Well, what does it say on the sticker?". I did not feel very reassured by her response and didn't understand the need to have an attitude over something that is a dietary restriction. When paying $7 for a latte and extra to have non-dairy milk, I feel like it's not unreasonable to make sure the drink was made properly and not going to cause health issues. Sad because I really love this place but don't want to return with that kind of service. read more

The wait is very long. It is a Friday morning about 10am. We ordered a couple of biscuits and waited almost an hour. I wish we had asked how long it was going to be. When we ordered, there was no line and very few people waiting for their food. I co-owned and operated a cafe and I am wondering if they are understaffed or if they need to work on their mise en place. There are other reviews on here commenting on the wait time. So it is not just us. We sat outside in the courtyard and had plenty of time to notice how nice the area is even for a hotter day. Very enjoyable. Last minute search for breakfast as we were leaving OBX. Sure glad we found this quaint place! Among the trees, the outdoor seating was perfect. We ordered our assortment of drinks, and breakfast and then sat down. After a short wait our delicious food was ready. There were 8 of us so we had a variety of items from chicken and biscuit to breakfast burrito that was even too big for my husband and to finish! I had a wonderful, flaky chocolate croissant. Finding this place was a bit of an adventure -- we were looking for a coffee shop to work out of for our last day in OBX after we checked out of our rental and this one was nearby. We wandered around for quite some time trying to figure it out -- it's located in a maze of buildings connected by wooden walk ways with trees popping up in between. Makes sense they went with Treehouse Coffee for a name! Once you find it, the interior is modern and inviting. They have free wifi, but you have to order first to get the code. I ordered a jasmine hot tea and it was lovely. You get your own pot and the brew was tasty. We didn't end up ordering food, just the drinks -- my friend's mocha came out looking really pretty and insta-worthy. Overall it was a good spot to get some work done. Mixed feelings... Things got off to a rocky start when we walked in and were briskly told we could not order breakfast for another 15 min. Not a big deal, it was early, so we decided to order a couple of coffees. When getting rung up I noticed that the price was about double what was listed on the menu. I was told I must be mistaken until I showed them the menu. Then I was told that it must be an out of date menu, until I passed the stack of available identical menus, all identical. Again, not a big deal, just could have been nicer about it. The coffees were great, I might have ordered something else had I known the price, but for what it was, the coffee was very good. After waiting the requisite 15 min to place our food order we sat down and waited and enjoyed out coffee (again, great coffee!). When the food arrived portions were reasonable and things looked great. I had ordered the burrito and after biting into it discovered it had avocados (not listed on the menu). For some this would be a welcome surprise, but as someone who doesn't like avocados, I wish I had known before ordering. At the end of the day, I can say the food was of good, the coffee was good, the biscuit was amazing, but just be ready for some surprises and cold service. Normally I don't care much one way or another about service long as food is good. But if I'm spending nearly $40 on a light breakfast for 2, I would at least want friendly staff. read more

We came for breakfast on a Friday morning- they were pretty busy- but following mask wearing and distancing guidelines when customers were ordering at the window and getting their meals from their pick up window. I ordered the fried chicken biscuit and my husband had the sausage biscuits and gravy. My sandwich was good, but nothing great. My husband really liked his biscuits and gravy though. I stopped here leaving the Outer Banks because it's on the main road heading south, which works well if you're staying in Corolla or Duck. The biscuit is huge, and there was a healthy amount of egg, plus a thick slice of bacon. The pimento cheese, fried green tomato, fried egg biscuit was my selection and it did not disappoint. Very good biscuit in general and delicious flavor combination. My boyfriend got the burrito which he liked but didn't love. The reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because it was kind of expensive for what you got. Mine was reasonable but the burrito and some other items were $10-$15 with no side at all. It would be nice if they added hash browns, grits, whatever as a compliment to each dish. This place is like a gourmet coffee shop who doesn't act like it. It's in the Scarborough shops and is a cute little place. The baristas are very knowledgeable and friendly. A great place for coffee, local food, and friends hidden in the woods. This place is phenomenal and is very welcoming when you enter. When you walk in, there is a barista counter where you order your coffee and food items. There is plenty of seating available throughout the cafe that can range from a spot of 2 to 8 people. The food is fantastic as well. I always get a mocha with the homemade biscuits. They are absolutely the best biscuits I've ever had, with honey and jam available to add to it. I am attaching some foods that we enjoyed and definitely recommend. Fantastic. My husband had the bacon egg and cheese biscuit. Moist center - no getting choked up dryness with this scratch biscuit! The coffee and iced tea come in a variety of styles and flavors so there's plenty to choose from. It's set in a very pleasant "treetop" outdoorsy area with plenty of Covid distancing seating however be aware it's super crowded, only 1/2 wear a mask, and some run right over and around you chasing their kids laughing and shouting their spit everywhere, which is rude outside of a pandemic.
