I was passing through and wanted a tenderloin before leaving the state. Treece's had all the trappings of a small town diner so in we went. It is a "seat yourself" establishment which was oddly more challenging than you'd think. At first glance it was exactly what I'd hoped for. Full of locals to include what appeared to be a couple Mennonite patrons. It doesn't get more local than that. Prices seemed reasonable and the menu was full of deep fried food, mostly fresh/saltwater options. I ordered the tenderloin and my travel companion ordered the steak, rare. The side salad came out promptly. It was a standard salad. As advertised. The steak was cooked as ordered and had a good flavor, but was full of gristle. The breaded tenderloin was large, but lacked much taste beyond the ketchup and mustard. I was disappointed. I cannot remember the name of the gentleman serving us, but he was prompted and nice. Overall an ok experience, but not noteworthy or memorable. read more

It said seat yourself so we did. It was a good 5-7 minutes before we saw a waitress. They are known for their fried foods. We started with an appetizer of fried onion rings. They came with ranch and another sauce. They were good. The ambiance is your good old American diner. Floors were a little messy but it had snowed and looked like people had carried it in with their shoes. I had the butterflied shrimp dinner. The shrimp and the fries could have been fried just a little bit longer. I also had steamed broccoli. My husband had the coconut shrimp. He says d it was good but the pins colada sauce was not. He also had fries and Cole slaw. Overall, the meals we had were average. Not sure I'll be back. read more

Kind of an out of the way place that most people drive right by without noticing the place is even there. Located in Rossville, Indiana on SR 26 west of Kokomo on the way to Lafayette, In. I've done it myself many times. I only came across it in a Google search for nearby restaurants. We have been there twice now and both times enjoyed the experience. Service has been really good and the food, while not gourmet, has been quite enjoyable. Better yet, the prices have been very good for this day and age. I had the prime rib once and fried chicken the next. All the sides and desserts we have tried have been spot on. If Rossville were closer to where we lived I would go there a lot more often. So far none of our party has had any complaints and said "they all would come back again". read more

My husband and I just tried Treece's for the first time. Our server Ashley was amazing! She was friendly, very attentive and quick with her service. My husband got the strip and I got the prime rib and they were both cooked perfectly. It's a 45 minute drive from our house, but well worth it! read more

Update 2024: Food Poisoning on 1/24/24....check your mayo. Thanks yall! Throwing up my tenderloin was a really fun adventure. Gladly, never coming back. Don't waste your money, folks--just drive to Lafayette for countless options that won't get you sick. Don't say you weren't warned. Rossville's renowned restaurant. Service is hit or miss, like the menu. As a life-long resident I've had a fair share of visits, yet almost every time I visit I leave the place feeling like it's lacking something. Perhaps it's a need for a more original menu with some creativity. Or perhaps the need for less deep fried options. Fortunately, the town now provides several other options for which I would rather frequent. The only positive they've added to the place is that it doesn't wreak of cigarette smoke any more. My husband had the perch I had clam strips. He loved his mine were fine but nothing exceptional. The coleslaw is good and the baked potato is also fine. The onion rings were perfect. Real onion and crispy not greasy. Service was amazingly prompt and very accommodating. This is a dreary little place but it's clean, the food is pretty good and they have every type of fish you could want on the menu. They have a bar side. I've never had a drink there. If you like fish you should give it a try they do their fish well. read more

I have looked around the reviews and they are 9-10 years old. Let's get current. Ok! No other place around the immediate area like Treece's. What you want, baby they got it!..... They don't have it, you don't need it! ....Many food items are fried but everyone needs that at least once a month. How else can you serve whole catfish or fillets, smelt, perch, bluegill, onion rings, etc. etc. They have the meatiest, best catfish fillets I've had. Not up for fish? Fried chicken is a good choice. They also serve a mean grilled steak and prime rib - a little on the rare side for me please. Their menu has many choices to choose from. There are also nightly specials. Lighter items are on the menu; but, you can have that at home. I really like their side salad too-better than others I have had....go with blue cheese. Plenty of seating. Great staff. Oh, full bar too!! Street parking or park in the back lot. Relaxed atmosphere! Suit and tie? are on you; but, that's okay too. Don't like crowds? Don't tell but there is a rear bar with 4-5 tables. Fun place to hook up with friends. Give it a try. I think you will go back. read more

Terrible, raw food never got my second order of fries. Place you to be good but went to hell. Tables are sticky and gross and cheese bites tasted like onion rings. Lady was good at bringing drinks but never got our second fry. Not to mention food poisoning sometimes. read more

Back home again in Indiana!! Think Jim Nabors opening the Indy 500... Took my mom out to one of her favorite places in Rossville IN. She was in the mood for smelt and I was craving an Indiana classic; the breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. Treece's is a very busy family spot on a Friday night, but well worth the drive from Lafayette. The smelt was just like my mom remembered (although a tad small in her opinion), perfectly breaded and fried. The full order was listed at 12 ounces, but seemed like 24! My breaded tenderloin was definitely made in the restaurant as it was a very juicy piece of meat with perfect breading... For our sides we chose the onion rings and seasoned wedges which I am guessing are made in house as well. To top of this night of nolstagia, I washed it down Strohs, a beer have not drank in 20 years. A perfect meal. read more

Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. I wanted a pork tenderloin sandwich, it's Indiana afterall and when I'm back I eat all of these sandwiches I can get. I haven't been here since I was a teenager. The place had several families young and old, and lots of seating and booths. Very quaint hometown-ish dining room. It's right on the main street and there is some FREE street parking available. This place is also known for their catfish so thought I'd get an order to go and share with my husband later. The sandwich was just ok, it wasn't as crispy as I expected. The meat was also thick.... not the pounded out thin meat I was expecting. The breading and the sandwich itself kinda reminded me of a McChicken from McDonald's, only it was pork. Although I took the catfish home, I tore off a piece to try it while it was still fresh and hot. The breading was very different. It wasn't the salt and pepper breading I've had other places. Instead it was maybe corn meal ? I was AMAZED at all the options of fish you can order here. Not sure if it's the same breading used. They have Trout, Flounder, Coho Salmon, Blue Gill (I had no idea you could eat those, when fishing Dad always threw them back !), shrimp, and clam strips. My server was nice. Fast friendly service. The catfish was excellent! I was pleasantly surprised but curious that the place wasn't busier.

Breaded tenderloins and onion rings were good but I have had better. The tenderloin was a little thicker than I like and it wasn't as tender as it could have been. Only one server was working for the Saturday mid afternoon lunch. Nice lady but I had to ask for a straw for my tea and she forgot the sides I ordered for my tenderloin (lettuce, onions, pickles and tomatoes). Drink prices were high but I had three free refills. The atmosphere is laid back small town. There is a large bar area separated from a large family dining area. The remodeling is nice and the restaurant is very clean. They are famous for their catfish dinners but unfortunately I'm not a fan of catfish. Next time I go back I'll update the review and have something different. Despite the other reviews posted for Treece's, I stopped in.  I've passed by literally hundreds of times as I've traveled through Rossville.   At my table, we had both the tenderloin and the batter-dipped fish sandwich.   I would hands down get both again.  The batter coating on the tenderloin was crunchy, as it should be.  The cut of meat, was thick and juicy, and seasoned well.  They know how to do a tenderloin.   The batter dipped fish was really good as well.  Similar batter to the tenderloin, but quite the different experience.  The bun was so-so, but the meat inside was the real star. Experience & Atmosphere was mediocre.  The waitress was kind, but she was spread thin.  We were also seated on the opposite side of the restaurant from the other patrons, it seemed.   Maybe because we weren't locals?  I don't know.  That said, I'd call ahead and get carry out as i was passing by in a heart-beat.  In a pinch, I'd stop and dine.  Either way, I won't just pass-by any more. read more

Loved my experience at Treece's. The food was great and the servers went above and beyond to make sure we felt right at home. This dinner is right of Highway 26 in Rossville, IN. I want to thank Gary and the rest of his staff for maintaining carry out and now limited seating during the COVID 19. Last night's carry out was two dinners. My wife ordered the 7 oz prime rib, medium rare, baked potato, and slaw. I ordered the 12 oz sirloin, medium, onion rings and the house salad. The carry out order was done on time and packaged well so that the steaks were still warm when we got home. My wife reported her steak quite good, tender and tasty. My sirloin was one of the best I've experienced. The cook was slightly beyond what I would consider to be medium, but tender and delicious. My onion rings were very good in spite of getting a little "steamed" in the carry out container. All in all, one of the best carry out meals we've had. read more

It's okay. The food kind of reminds me of a hospital cafeteria but the staff is great! Very friendly and welcoming.

Love this home-town restaurant and its been a family favorite for a long time. Their service and servers are excellent. Prompt and accurate while friendly and knowledgeable. I've ordered carry out before and it's been the same quality as dining in. Gary runs the place and does a great job...really nice guy! I like that treeces employs local high school students when they can. There are a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, steak, chicken, seafood, sandwiches, lots of sides to choose from... All around, probably my favorite restaurant in town because of the variety. read more

Last I usually eats here about 3 times a month. The last few times I ate there it has been mediocre, and service is ok depending on what server you get. The last time I got fried food I was almost instant indigestion. read more

Not as good as it used to be. Arrived at 6:30, party of 8, seated right away. Ordered drinks and appetizer. Got our drinks quickly, and ordered dinner. Quite awhile later, got our salads first, then appetizers. I ordered the grilled chicken breast which was very good, but VERY small. It was served with a very small portion of veggies, which were cold. Others that had catfish and prime rib said their meals were very good. We were seated at 6:30 and our entrees were served at 8:00. Meanwhile, two large parties were seated and already were done eating by the time we were served our entrees. This used to be a pretty good place, but not very impressive on this visit. read more

Best catfish in the greater Lafayette area! I've been going there for years and it is a must on my list of favorites. Great small town tavern slash catfish & steak house. One of the few places you can get a bluegill dinner! Awesome! read more
