This review is for Dr. Davis's staff only. I have never seen Dr. Davis. I called recently to set up an appointment, as I needed a new PCP. The receptionist who answered asked me to send her an email (i.e., not secure through a portal) of the front and back of my insurance card, and they would get back to me. I explained that I did not feel comfortable doing that, given all the compromised websites and hackers that could potentially steal data. She then had me read it to her over the phone. When I have done that in the past, the provider usually has a program that can verify coverage right away. However, the receptionist said that she would have to pass my information along to billing, and they would call me back. I asked if I could make an appointment, but she said she could not pending coverage, which I found odd, given that this issue has never presented itself before with any other provider.
In about an hour, I get a call from the billing specialist, which went something like this:
Office: Elizabeth?
Me: No, I think you have the wrong number.
Office: Heather, sorry, sorry, Heather.
Me: Yes.
Office: This is Dr. Davis's office. We've verified your coverage. Do you want to make an appointment?
Me: Well, I'm actually headed to a meeting right now.
Office: Well, for new patients, we're booking for the third week in February. Is that too late for you?
Me: No, that sounds fine.
Office: February 4 at 3:30 p.m.
Me (confused, as February 4 is next week, and not the third week of February): I'll take it, but I'll have to check my calendar. Can you send me a text?
Office: I'll need your email address.
Me: Why do you need my email address to send a text?
Office: There's still more information needed from you.
Me: Like what? I'm happy to fill out forms during my first appointment.
Office (shuffling papers): Let me see...
Me: I'm really sorry, but I'm heading out to a meeting right now. Could you call me back so we can schedule this or send me a text?
Office: I'll call you back this afternoon.
That was yesterday. Points off for not being able to verify my insurance right away, schedule me, and getting my name wrong when you called back. Also points off for the confusion regarding when the appointment would be (3rd week of February vs. next week). Lastly, they never called me back like they said they would. Is it really that hard to schedule an appointment? read more
