The Third Ward is filled with new stores, restaurants and bars. I didn't recognize most of them, and sadly felt old and distant from Milwaukee. I was involved in the very genesis of the gentrification of the Third Ward, when there were just a couple of dining places and a few gay bars. It grew exponentially, but never expected these many changes. I guess I should have held on to my buildings....... Tre Rivoli, in the newish Kimpton hotel, is representative of these changes in my favorite Milwaukee neighborhood. Hip, but without pretense, the room is airy and the expansive windows allow you to "catch" the scene on the sidewalk. Service was casual, but Midwest nice and friendly. We miss that warmth. The brunch menu had some great choices, and my fried chicken with gravy was scrumptious. I cleaned my plate. Monkey Bread, a Tre Rivoli favorite, was icky sweet, but delicious. Tre Rivali is a great option if you living or out and about in the Third Ward. First when you walk in, it is beautiful to take in....glass floor to ceiling windows and tables on the sidewalk out front. Inside , where the bar is located it reminds me of an open french market with a long wooden bar and white tables set to serve for patrons to have a drink and appetizer while they wait on a table. The bar has some great drinks on the menu, but we love to tell our bar tender what mood we are in and she always whips something up using her own recipe and she always nails it 100% of the time! When you are seated to your table and go to the back the atmosphere changes into an intimate, romantic and darker sitting area it just feels incredibly private even though you are in a room full of people. I love the servers at Tre Rivali- they never disappoint! The servers know their menu's are great at making recommendations, and keep the flow of dinner going at the right pace. The food is always incredible and they have a pretty extensive wine list to choose from. One of our favorite places to stop by for dinner and/or a cocktail. read more

Overall, quite lackluster. Our service was embarrassingly slow, with our waiter waiting over 20 minutes before letting us know there will be an additional wait for a Bloody Mary and orange juice (with no communication regarding food). Once the drinks arrived, the Bloody Mary (kindly quickly made by a manager) was fine, albeit with a slight oversight. The patron ordering the Bloody Mary told the waiter that they do not eat meat prior to placing orders; however, the waiter brought out a loaded drink with a sausage and bacon garnish, with the latter being in the drink. Not wishing to wait another 20 minutes, we just moved on. As for the food (over a half-hour in) the Mediterranean salad was subpar and filled with rather unusually large lettuce chunks. The fries were poorly seasoned, and overly greasy. The "margarita pizza" was, taste and presentation-wise, a step below Mod Pizza. They should consider renaming it to "cheese pizza", as there were no tomato slices or proper mozzarella on the pizza. Please consider other nearby restaurants for brunch. read more

A yummy place for a fancy yet casual dinner in the Third Ward! My partner likes to order gin and tonics and enjoyed their refreshing G&T Savory with green olives, caperberries, and thyme. The Wood Roasted Mushroom Pizza was garlicky with creamy ricotta, thinly sliced potatoes (almost like chips!), and savory mushrooms. I'm usually not a big lamb person, but the Braised Lamb Sugo was delicious- subtly sweet from the cinnamon and cocoa nibs. The Ricotta Dumplings dish was *chef's kiss* amazing! Similar to gnocchi and subtle in flavor, complemented well by the salty crispy pork belly, fresh asparagus and microgreens, and tangy dried tomatoes. What a gorgeous venue! Tre Rivali in the Kimpton Hotel is modern in an understated eclectic sort of way, and the Kimpton Hotel in general adds a whole dimension to the Third ward I feel was missing. It adds a cosmopolitan flavor for the literal backwater that is this neighborhood. I'm all for it! Our brunch was delicious, and service was very good. If I have any criticism at all, it would be that the menu wasn't super inventive-nothing really "popped" for me, and the price point was a little high (as is often the case with hotel restaurants.) What a beautiful Mediterranean restaurant centrally located in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward! Got done late with a work/social event and was ready to eat. This place has late open hours. What is cool is the decor design and so love the outdoor dining area. Wonderful staff greeted me when I walked in and there was a positive vibe from the customers. The kitchen has an exposed view for people to watch. My entree was the smoked black cod and how refreshing. The fresh horseradish red wine vinegar works well with the juicy cod! This is my first time dining at Tre Rivali. I've always wanted to go and heard from other people how good the food and drinks are. I went for date night with my husband. I specifically wanted to try the grilled octopus. I'm not sure if their menu is seasonal or changes from time to time. The day we went, the menu was limited but straightforward. You have the option of steak and seafood in the big plates menu. They have lots of vegetarian option that day. I believe this is a tapas place. We made a reservation beforehand. The ambiance is great. It is true to it's Mediterranean style. The charcuterie board was decent. 3 different meats and 3 cheeses. My husband ordered the steak. It was delicious! Perfectly cooked medium and goes well with the fingerling potatoes and crimini mushrooms. I ordered the cod and was not expecting how plump, fresh, and savory the mussels were. The cod itself was cooked to perfection. Seasoned well and not offputtingly salty like most seafood in sauce. It was served with couscous. The service was great. On my most recent visit to Tre Rivali, the service had marginally improved. This time, we got coffee refills and although our server forgot something, she did a wonderful job of correcting her mistake. That being said, this is definitely a brunch at a pace that takes up an entire morning (which isn't always a bad thing!). For food, it was stellar as always. The Breakfast Pizza and Avocado Toast: perfectly cooked eggs with yolks that are worth dreaming about. The Monkey Bread: always a welcomed addition as a sweet sharable. First Tre Rivali itself is visually stunning. We sat midway to the back of the restaurant next to the large open windows. The seating accommodations were on point. We had a party of 8 plus a child and by no means did any of us feel uncomfortable or cramped. Many restaurants these days crowd in the tables to get more people cramped in. Not here! Proper and ample space = happy customers. Second the service was truly superb. Our waitress gave us top notch care and made sure we were all happy with anything and everything. Lastly the food and drink. Tre Rivali has all the goods. Goods like expensive bottles of wine to expensive pours of liquor. Price points were actually not bad considering what your getting. We ordered one of the cheaper bottles of wine and found it to be one of the best of the many bottles we popped that night. Spanish wine Brezo 2015. Good Stuff! I had the Carbonara which had a particularly good hand made pasta. Wifey had the Middle Eastern Roasted Half Chicken which was good overall but the breast was a tad on the dry side. The Golden raisin-saffron couscous, apricots, tomatoes, green olives, cauliflower were a particular interesting combination that went well with the chikcen. That's it. I genuinely only have great things to say about Tre Rivali! Their location is perfect, as it is central Third Ward and in the Journeyman Hotel. I visited for brunch with friends and their mimosas for brunch were delicious; a great champagne-to-OJ ratio. I had the Hopple Popple without sausage (as I am a vegetarian) and it was one of the best brunches I've ever had! The pretzel croutons were a delicious touch. Didn't realize there was a $5 per person fee if bringing in your own cake which we had kinda disappointed in hearing that. Unfortunately my family received the right meals sadly I did not so I had to wait for my meal for an extra 15 20 mins but received a bowl of fruit to snack on which was nice. Breakfast - Kitchen was more than happy to accommodate some food allergies and adjust their cooking techniques. The egg white frittata was very fresh and light. Very nice spot for a brunch in the Third Ward. Tre Rivali, located on the first floor in the Kimpton, offers a bright spot to enjoy brunch while people-watching shoppers along Broadway. The brunch cocktails are great. The Bloody Mary wasn't as enormous as some other nearby restaurants, but it was tasty and came with a good-sized chaser. My friend was very happy with her Aperol Spritz. The food was good. I'd recommend the Monkey Bread, a sinfully sweet treat of bread, cinnamon sugar, and butterscotch sauce--one is enough to share for two or three people. The Goat Cheese & Herb Omelet was very good, but if you're hungry, you might want to skip the modest-sized omelet. My wife said she wouldn't order the Mighty Vine Tomatoes tartine again, because she didn't like the lemon marmalade, which she felt conflicted with the savory taste. Visited here based off reviews and it was a lovely restaurant! We got there around five on a Wednesday and were greeted by the hostess. She showed us to our table immediately after asking if we had a reservation (we didn't) and the place was pretty empty. First impressions were how chic the decor was. The floor and the overall vibe of Tre Rivali was perfect. This would be a great date place. We were either greeted by the manager or the owner but either way, very nice touch as well. Once we were seated our waitress came and greeted us warmly. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and was also very helpful in helping us choose items that wouldn't take as long, as we had an appointment at 6. We ordered the cheese and meat board to start. For two people it is more than enough five meats and five cheeses, plus an array of crackers, berries, honey and compote! We could have happily just had that for dinner, because it was phenomenal. Beautiful presentation, and great value. We also order the sausage pizza, that was pretty good as well. Not quite sure why everyone is so excited about this place. The food was simply okay, nothing to write home about. First things first, our server was present in the beginning up until we ordered our appetizers. Then she was basically nowhere to be found. Finally, the manager started assisting us with our orders, and she was GREAT. Took care of everything, made sure we were liking dinner, got us our drinks. Second, it was slow. To start, we each ordered a glass of wine, which took 40 minutes to get to our table. This was when we had our first server who was MIA. The manager took care of everything and comped us the drinks for taking so long. Third, we ordered our food. When it finally arrived, it was just ok. I will say, the charcuterie plate... no. I wouldn't do it again. It was just fine. I wasn't impressed at all by the selection, and the fruit wasn't good. The rest of our food was just okay. When we started eating the charcuterie, we were debating on whether to just get the check and leave but had already placed our order for food since the waitress was nowhere to be found. A group of a dozen coworkers and myself visited Tre Rivali for drinks and appetizers on the rooftop, followed by dinner in their private dining room. I was absent for the drinks and appetizers portion, however my coworkers said it was very nice and the meat and cheese board was impressive. I did venture to the rooftop when I arrived, and will definitely plan on visiting again to check it out, as the space looked awesome. Our dinner was served family-style, and almost too much food was provided. We left satisfied with the atmosphere, service, and dinner. The room we were in was nice, however my only issue was the table was so long, and the seats were so large, that even though we only had about 12 people, you were unable to speak to people more than two seats away. The other end of the table might as well have been in another room. Some highlights were the Polpette meatballs, sesame hummus, pastas (Marscarpone Cheese Ravioli was amazing, and the Pappardelle was good as well), Grilled Swordfish, and dessert. We tried the Chocolate Torte and the Warm Apple-Almond Crostata; the crostata was fantastic, with amazing ice cream and salted caramel sauce on top of the warm crostata. The Tomato Tartlet was definitely one of my favorites, with goat cheese custard and perfectly delicious green olives. The Escarole and Celery Salad was another hit; everyone loved the hint of lemon. The Grilled Florentine Steak was a standout, especially duck fat roasted potatoes that accompanied. We had a wonderful and delicious experience. If you are looking to splurge on a meal (as Tre Rivali is definitely on the pricey side), I would recommend a visit. My husband and I are spending the night at the Kimpton hotel the restaurant is in and had just arrived hungry for lunch at 1:30 pm today with our dog in tow. The actual restaurant doesn't allow dogs (duh) but Janet very generously served us in the hotel lobby complete w full silverware and glasses. Normally they only do takeout so we really appreciated the full service from her! Also the food is freaking delicious! I got the pork belly pizza which is amazing- perfect crackly crust, blistered grapes, and honey. My husband got the pasta carbonara which had a fantastic chew to it. A really terrific restaurant I highly recommend to anyone, and if you see Janet make sure to request her section! I've been to Tre Rivali several times for lunch, and it's always been just alright. When I got invited to a work dinner here I wasn't all that excited buuuut after giving the dinner menu a try I am much more on board! We started with drinks on the roof at The Outsider. Always a very lovely experience! I had the "Dillionaire" which was as tasty as it was pretty! Then we headed downstairs for dinner. We started with the meat and cheese plate and it was HUGE! It was beautiful and had tons of varieties of meat, cheese, breads, fruit, etc. Absolutely wonderful! We also ordered the margarita pizza which was fresh and delicious, as well as the carbonara (could be slightly more seasoned, but the noodles were awesome!) As full as we were, we did opt for dessert. I got the banana cake which was served with salted caramel and banana ice cream. Not what I was expecting and it was VERY sweet but really, really good! A lovely restaurant located in downtown Milwaukee. Surprisingly, I didn't need a reservation and was guided to my table immediately upon entering. The atmosphere is warm and lively, the interior beautiful and a little eclectic. The menu looked quite promising, with a great mix of traditional and modern dishes. I started my meal off with the paella arancini, which was absolutely delicious. The arancini was not too oily, perfectly crispy, and filled with a deliciously aromatic paella filling. Next came the pappardelle, with a side of spicy broccolini rabe. The papperdelle was magnificent and perfectly cooked, with a rich, wholesome red sauce. Unfortunately, the broccolini was a bit of a let down for me; I didn't find it particularly spicy or garlicky. I had a glass of Prosecco and my bf order the G&T, which was sooo pretty. Next we ordered a caprese salad which was fresh and light. We ordered two pastas to split, the bucatini and carbonara. The bucatini was really good, a little on the peppery side. The carbonara was my favorite, it was buttery and not as thick as typical carbonara's I've had. Finally, dessert!! We ordered the honey ricotta cheese cake which came with pistachio ice cream. It was good but the toffee pudding cake outshined it. The pudding cake was unreal. We like figuring out ways to keep costs down but still go out. Tre Rivali has the best charcuterie board we've had yet in Milwaukee and for a great, competitive price (under 20). Basically we just go for that and get a drink. The grilled octopus and their pizza is also pretty fantastic. We were going to another place but were able to walk in on a Saturday night and grab a bar high top. Their prices are also decent compared to other restaurants on a similar level. The only exception is the cocktails are pricey but the wine and whiskey by the ounce are comparable to other places. Highly recommend and excited to try out their brunch in the future. read more

We stopped in after seeing the Christmas Carol at the Rep. it was recommended to us by a few good friends. I am glad we took their advice. The restaurant was not that busy for a Friday night just before Christmas. It was nice because we had a seat right my the kitchen viewing area. We could see all the staff working together in the meal prep. We started with the chicken liver mousse and grilled octopus. Both were fabulous. Having traveled extensively in Europe, I have had a lot of grilled octopus, this is in the top 5. The mousse was great with the blackberry compote and bread. Kids loved it. For mains, we had Carrot Gnocchi, pizza Margherita, grilled swordfish and Florentine steak. All were wonderful. Gnocchi was coked well, pizza had a nice fire oven bake to it, swordfish was moist and seasoned well. The steak was tender, but a little on the smaller side for a Florentine steak. The two boys shared it and it was a little on the smaller side. Either of them, could have eaten it themselves. But, they both agreed it was very good. It is the only thing holding me back from giving it a 5 star rating. Dessert was the warm apple-almond crostata. Instant family favorite.
