Tre Rivali has been a lovely addition to the Third Ward food scene. I've been there for both brunch and dinner and have not been disappointed yet. I have to admit, one of my favorite features is the ambiance and decor. The decorative tile floor and the modern but comfortable furniture all ties it together. And sitting outside on a summer weekend morning for brunch is equally as charming. But the food holds up on its own as well. For brunch, I love the avocado toast and highly recommend sharing a pull apart monkey bread. For dinner, definitely share some starters and/or vegetable dishes. And you can't go wrong with their pasta. Saving room for dessert is a must here! read more

Lovely atmosphere and quality food/drink. Came here this past winter with family in from out of country. Service was exceptional. Sommelier was so knowledgeable and had plenty of recommendations for my husband and I for our upcoming trip to Italy. First let me say the service was great, but the food..not horrible but not my favorite. A few of us went for dinner last week. We had two pizzas, Italian sausage and one mushroom, pizzas are decent they are brick oven, I've had much better (transfer pizza) but if you go there stick with the Za. For appetizers we had warmed olives but they put a orange zest on top which ruined the olives, their tomato bread was just a bunch of tomatoes on top of bread with Prosciutto nothing special at all, and the whipped duck liver butter with bread was unique if you like duck liver you would like this. One of the people I was with had swordfish, yuck, very fishy. The banana bread dessert was good. The ambiance is nice, and the rooftop bar called The Outsider is really wonderful for after dinner cocktails. Unfortunately, I won't be back for dinner anytime soon there are way better places to eat in Milwaukee. read more

My recent Milwaukee visit allowed me to check out this place again with two wonderful friends. I am extremely pleased to report that everything was just as good, if not better than my previous visits! I arrived early and enjoyed a great Espresso Martini at the Bar. I love the bar at Tre Rivali! It is open, airy, bright and comfortable. The drinks are creative, unique and well made. Most importantly, the Bartenders are welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. If I lived in the area, I would definitely stop in often for an after work cocktail! The Dining area of Tre Rivali is as open and pleasant as the Bar. We were seated at a great window table and warmly greeted by our server. The menu is varied and interesting, so we decided to order several of the smaller plates and skip the larger plates. Here is a rundown of what we had: Paella Arancini with Saffron, Peas, Chorizo and a Red Pepper Sauce. An outstanding version of the Italian classic. The Twist of Chorizo and Red Pepper Sauce worked wonderfully with the perfectly fried balls of Rice. Crispy on the outside and soft and luscious inside! Olive Oil Braised Charred Octopus with Salsa Verde, Preserved Lemon Frisee Salad. Consistency is vital for any great Restaurant! I have ordered this on several visits and it is always amazing! If you don't like, or think you won't like Octopus, try this dish and you will fall in love like I did! Wood Roasted Mussels with Fennel, Pernod, Cream, Saffron Aioli and Grilled Bread. I have never been a huge Mussel fan, but this dish was fantastic. Tender, flavorful, slightly smoky Mussels in a broth that was so good they could serve it as a Soup! As a matter of fact, we requested extra bread to get every drop! Wood Fired Pizza with Crispy Pork Belly, Honey Roasted Grapes, Brie and Rosemary. Grapes on Pizza? YES!!! Grapes on Pizza are amazing! I wish I could get this delivered to La Crosse! Butterscotch Budino with Rosemary Shortbread Cookies. A simple but perfect ending to a great meal. I ate about half and our server packed it up for me. I had signed a contract for a private room and due to the size of the reservation (18 people) was required to have a catered set menu (@$45/person). Upon arrival at the appointed time of the reservation, the room was not ready and it took 20 minutes to seat our party'. After being seated it was another 15 minutes for beverages to be served; the food was delivered at various times over the following 20 minutes; hot dishes were served at room temperature, the quality of the food was not consistent with the reputation of the the restaurant.. I would not recommend this facility for private events. read more

My Wife and I stopped in at this restaurant on a whim and it was simply amazing. From the food / drinks, to the atmosphere and the staff, everything about our experience was top notch. I would suggest making reservations as tables are limited. However, if you walk in at dinner time as we did there may be seating at the bar where you can learn a little bit about the craft mixed drinks such as the Romulus, which is excellent, thanks Chris for crafting such a unique and delicious libation. You can also order from the full menu so it's a win, win. As a more upscale restaurant expect the price to be a bit more, but the food is of the best quality and you will not regret it. Tre Rivoli ( three rivals) an Italian name for Mediterranean cuisine in the classic third ward of Milwaukee. A joke without a name on the menu there is nothing Mediterranean, the frozen croissant is outrageously disgusting and expensive ( 5$) and the deconstructed salmon bagel is funny and sad ($16). The bagel probably from a plastic bag is serve with the salmon on a plate, lettuce and tomatoes out of the sandwich. Deconstructed is for fine "French cuisine" not a polish bread developed in NY. The menu is a classic menu for American restaurant but nothing Mediterranean , avocado have been found by the European conquistador meeting native population on the American continent but are not really part of Mediterranean cuisine. We should enjoy couscous, Greek salad, tapas, paella, even Italian pizza, but no pancakes or eggs Benedict. read more

So close to the Kimpton Journeyman we had to try it, it is a beautiful restaurant inside and the dining outside has great views of the historic third ward. Cocktails were $15 a piece, but they were legit cocktails made by a mixologist so I'm down. Lamb kebab and hummus shareable's are packed with flavor. Meatball small plate is easily a top 10 meatball in my life. The ricotta dumplings are good, but the saffron sauce they were in was incredible. Swordfish was also perfectly cooked. read more

My fiancé and I went out for a date night to the Tre rivali and overall we were relatively unimpressed. This place has a lot of potential given the ambience and it's perfect location in Historic Third Ward however despite having a reservation the hostess managed to seat us directly next to the only other guests dining in the restaurant. One of the guests at this table had to even move their leftover box from our table so that we could sit down despite there being over 20 vacated tables around them. And I know what you're thinking, perhaps these tables were reserved for other reservations however these tables remained vacated for the entirety of our experience at the Tre rivali including when we (finally) left. I decided to get a drink off of the drink menu called the hanging gardens which blasted me back in time to when I was in grade school drinking red liquid cough syrup due to their similarities in presentation as well as taste. I decided to order the potato gnocchi which was composed of noodles tasting as if they were infused and bursting at the seams with butter so much so that I would not be surprised if my cholesterol shot up to the 300s at my next doctors appointment. At least my fiancé's meal which was a quarter centimeter thick garlic bread with marinara sauce dressed up and labeled as a flatbread pizza proved to taste good however we still had to go home and cook some sides to make up for not getting enough at dinner. I wish I had some pictures to post on this review however that would mean I would have to go back and eat there again to get them, which is something that I will not be doing. I was very disappointed in this experience given that the outsider is one of my favorite spots to grab a cocktail also located within the journeyman hotel. Overall, my advice to this place is? This review is indicative of one visit only, and not my whole experience at Tre Rivali. I live in the neighborhood, so I go there once in a while, and I have had both good and bad experiences. But my experience on Thursday, January 10 was just stupid. Myself and a friend walked in at 11:08 in the morning. The restaurant was literally empty, not like a couple customers, but zero customers. We went to the host stand and asked to be seated and the host walked us back to the entirely empty main dining room and started to seat us at a 2-top banquet table on the wall. I asked if we could sit at a nice 4-top table in the window, as it was a beautiful sunny day, and she said she had to go ask her boss. After disappearing for a while she came back and said no, we couldn't take up a 4-top because they might get busy. I said "Seriously? There is literally not one person in this entire place." She said well, sometimes they can get busy fast. So, we sat down at the banquet table, against the wall, away from the window. Menus were brought and we started looking for breakfast items, as it was still only about 11 in the morning. They only had lunch items and I asked if we could still get a breakfast menu. The server told us no, they cut off breakfast at 10 in the morning here. I thought that was crazy. The lunch menu has nothing even remotely breakfast-like on it, it's things like mussels and pizza and lamb burgers. I asked the server if people complained about it because it seems really odd it to cut off breakfast at 10am. She said no it's because they are a hotel and that's how hotels do it. I've stayed in hotels all over the world and never seen another one that had that seemingly odd practice. I wonder how many people actually want to eat a bucket of mussels or a pizza at 10 in the morning? We decided to leave, and walked one block down to the absolutely lovely Sweet Diner, which, conversely to being empty was very busy, probably 75% of the tables being full. There was one nice four top table open right by the window. I asked the host if we could have it and she said "Of course you can!" Seated us with a smile, and we proceeded to have a lovely meal from their breakfast menu. Walking back to my place we went right past the windows at Tre Rivali. They no longer had zero customers. Hello Tre Rivali! I jumped at the chance to have brunch here on a Sunday Funday. What a lovely experience it was! Located in the new Kimpton Journeyman Hotel, the interior is lovely. It captures the essence of an open air market in a clean, bright sparkling new space. It's long and narrow with lots of rustic, cozy seating that feels intimate. It seemed a bit hard to get service and we couldn't really understand why. Our server was pleasant enough but she seemed to disappear when my friend wanted a mimosa. Also, the vestibule is a bit awkward. I ordered a chicken panini sandwich with thick mozzarella cheese that was so fresh it practically squeaked in my mouth. The Italian bread was crunchy although I didn't see any press evidence. I chose a green salad as my side, offsetting a mass quantity of chocolate that was consumed prior to lunch. I felt much healthier for choosing it and my taste buds enjoyed its simple oil and vinegar dressing. My friend had the 2 egg breakfast and enjoyed her meal as well. May I start by saying that this restaurant/cafe is absolutely beautiful. The finishes, decor, and furniture are gorgeous and highly detailed. I'm very impressed. I went here for lunch the other day and our table had three options - the Pork Sandwich, Lentil Burger and the Mozzerella Chicken Sandwich. All of these were great! The lunch is paired with a side. All three of us got the butternut squash and apple soup. I was not a huge fan of this part, but overall everything else was absolutely delicious. We stopped by Tre Rivalin for dinner and were so impressed! The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. The restaurant is a modern sophisticated atmosphere with food to match. There is a great mix of seafood, vegetarian, and meat based dishes - we stuck with the seafood and it all impressed. The octopus and branzino were rock stars. We also had the ravioli which, as my wife described, would make anyone love mushrooms. We will certainly be back. I wish we found this restaurant sooner! read more

Decided on a meritage, which name I have unfortunately already forgotten--Muscar J--something or other. I think it was about $50, with an nondescript label. As a blend it offered a rich taste and satisfied in every way. It outshined the other tastes I was offered of reds. Sorry, not much help I know. Of the five courses between the two of us there wasn't a bad morsel. I suspect that anything ordered here is unlikely to disappoint. Would dine here again, no question. I was in town for a conference and heard of this spot and decided to go for lunch. To begin, this is one of the cleanest establishments I've been in. Very clean lines, relaxed atmosphere and nice ambiance--loved the exposed brick! The menu has great choices and I since I was dining with others, I had the opportunity to taste more. Great atmosphere and impeccable customer service. We sat at the bar for a couple of drinks and desserts. There were always two bartenders available for this semi-small bar. Libations are unusual and desserts were spot on. My only downside is I wish the lights were lower to create a little bit of ambiance. Lights were to bright and a little jarring especially at night. We were staying at the Kimpton Journeyman and knew we'd want one night to "stay in". Since this is attached to the hotel lobby it was a perfect choice. (There is a street entrance for the public to use.) After reading reviews, we were excited to try this restaurant. Being a Saturday night I made reservations. We had the warm olives and feta as our app that was fantastic for those who love olives. The steak was outstanding and cooked to perfection and the handmade pasta is a must. Drink options were plentiful and we even took a drink each to bring back to our room which was served in nice stemware! It is on the upper end price-wise, but it is so worth it. read more

Tre Rivali is really a full package restaurant! The service is great, the food is delicious and the restaurant is beautiful. Tre Rivali is located in the third ward so it is nice to stop in if you're walking around the area. It is relatively fancy so it is a great date spot if you're looking for a nicer place to dine. We came in and ordered the cheese board and hummus. Both did not disappoint! It was not only delicious, but beautifully plated. They gave a generous portion size as well!!! Favorite new restaurant, I've been three times in the two weeks it's been open! This restaurant is gorgeous. Thoughtful design and details, vibrant and chic. The service was very attentive and professional. Our server knew the menu inside and out, answered questions and made recommendations flawlessly. Oh my, I have one happy belly after eating at Tre Rivali! Beautiful restaurant with clean lines and well placed tables. I love that they used lighter woods and tiles which gives the space a bright airy feel to it. The kitchen is viewable from the dining area and you can watch all the activity going into preparing delicious food. Service was excellent! Kameron, our server was very friendly, personable and knowledgeable about the menu. You can tell they do an extensive training with the staff. Now to the food. Seriously one of the best meals I have ever had. I normally am not a big fan of the smaller sharable plates, but was happy this was primarily the bulk of the menu, because I wanted to try one of every menu item. I restrained myself and we stuck to three smaller plates and two larger entrees. We started with the Olive Oil Braised Charred Octopus. The octopus was so tender and the salsa verde and preserved lemon really enhanced the dish. Next was the Bagna Cauda Gulf Shrimp with the anchovy butter and breakfast radish. The radish were simply prepared with a sprinkle of sea salt. I drizzled the anchovy butter over the radish. So good. I wanted to suck the juices out of the head of the shrimp, but didn't want to make a spectacle of myself, but I can't promise I won't do it next time. Onto the Polpette meatballs with house-made ricotta. The meatballs were so tender. The larger plates we had were the Coriander Crusted Whole Roasted Branzino and the Carbonara with homemade pasta. The Carbonara was surprisingly light and the pasta was cooked perfectly. By this point I was ready to burst but figured why not. If I'm falling off the South Beach wagon I'm going to do it right and have dessert. Chef Heather used to be a pastry chef and the dessert menu definitely reflects this. I can't pass up olive oil cake. This one was moist and accompanied with sea salt ice cream. I could have done without the sea salt ice cream, the cake didn't need ice cream at all. Why not have another dessert and if it has peaches even better....the Peach Crostata with the homemade vanilla bean ice cream was just amazing. Both desserts were not overly sweet and perfectly crafted. Prices were reasonable; for two drinks, 3 shareable plates, 2 entrees and 2 desserts it was just a little over $100. I really want this to be a 4.5 star rating. The phone app won't let me do it but none the less it's still going to be a very positive review for a great new place in town. It's was a clean crisp looking place with a lot of sun light and bright colors. I felt like I was in a Nautica commercial. This was my girlfriends plan for my post birthday dinner. I mentioned that we had a mutual friend working in the kitchen at the new restaurant in the new Kimpton Hotel in the third ward, and she surprised me with Monday evening reservation for 2. As busy as I assumed this hot new place would be, it wasn't at 6:00p, which was great. We walked in and were greeted right away, sat down at our table right away and received all of our waiters attention as he introduced us to the menu. As we sat down we noticed our friend Jonathan through the glass windows of their open kitchen and he took the time to step out, greet us and give us a few suggestions which we took! I love when places are interactive between the kitchen and the customers. We skipped out on an appetizer and went with a grilled sirloin that was served with a tomato corn salsa medley and my lady ordered the Paparadelle pasta with pork belly. Both were very good. Amazing presentation. Excellent service. My favorite was the desert. We ordered the chocolate torte that we devoured! Excellent!! Great sauce and great flavor. The only reason I would go with a 4.5 instead of perfect score is that nothing wow-Ed me enough to want to come back again. The menu items weren't for me and as great as everything tastes it wasn't unique enough that I am dying to come back again tomorrow. 3rd Ward drinks... Yes! Summer time desert stop... Yes!!! Very much a go to place for a nice relaxing dinner. When you walk in, you get hit with a warm smell of burning wood. The atmosphere is very calm and casual. My favorite dish is Coriander crusted branzino which is made to perfection and had perfect sides to it. Beat salad is also great as an appetizer or if you are not that hungry. This time, we also tried the banana cake with banana ice cream. It was so airy, great texture and not too sweet. If there were no people I think we would kick the plate. read more

Are awake, out and about with some girlfriends on an early afternoon and notice suddenly hunger hits you like a ton of bricks, but want to go somewhere that you can relax, but still feel a little bougie? Well look no further, this is the place for you. Super cute ambiance of a place it is. It's big and open and some real fricken cool tables that has a hole in the bottom to put your stuff or your arms. Also, you'll get a great bicep workout from lifting those heavy wooden chairs just to sit down. Anyway, this is a very chilled brunch spot and I think it's well worth the time. Bloody Mary that you chase with a beer, because of the spiciness, was pretty remarkable. Never even heard of anywhere doing that before, but it was mind blowing. My friend and I had the Tuscan Chicken Fritte that came with some sausage gravy and some biscuits that was absolutely to die for. Dipping it in a little Louisiana hot sauce really nailed the spot. We had a bite of our friend's breakfast pizza and that was pretty amazing. The crust was an interesting thin crust that came pretty sizable too. She also ordered this monkey bread, which had such a warm melting butterscotch flavor that would make you quiver in your pants. They also had this pretty rad bake sale going on to and I just decided to buy some pickled vegetables, because I'm not a big sweets person, but it was packaged so beautifully that I still haven't open them yet. Yum! My hubby and I stayed at The Journeyman so we grabbed lunch here without expecting much and we were blown away! Friendly service and first courses came out quickly, as well. The food was insanely good. I had the carrot soup to start- best soup I've ever tasted. Get the bowl because a cup won't be enough! Hubby got the beets and they were delicious- done very well. We both opted for pizza for the main course. I chose the Bianca and he got the Sausage one. The only issue I have is that it took 20 minutes to get our main course after we finished the first!! That's WAY too long in between courses... by 10 min at least. We also did the rooftop bar and had a good experience overall. Nice ambiance in the evening, good cheese curds but the empanadas were very subpar (peas? really?) and the pours were far from generous with the wine. This place... was all around an amazing experience. Yes, You read that correctly, i said "experience". Great dining experiences are always a win! Let me dive right into the food because if your reading this, you're clearly looking for good food! You will find all of that and more here. I had the margarita pizza and added pepperoni. It was around 17 for the 12 inch personal pizza. I ate the whole thing, yes I did. It was incredibly delish! The ingredients were fresh which is a big thing for me. Fresh tomatoes, cheese, and basil! My friends also had the various pizza options, which are wood fire pizzas by the way, another had pasta with chicken and one other had a half chicken with a marinara sauce. The half chicken was large enough to feed two individuals and boy it was good and not dry. But let's talk about the desserts because this is what really sold me. We had three desserts (1) banana cake with a carmel type soft whipped frosting on top served with banana ice cream (2) olive oil cake served with vanilla ice cream ( reminded me of butter cake) and (3) toffee pudding served hot with vanilla Ice cream. Listen... if you only go for desserts you are definitely winning here! Oh add wine or sangria to it lol. All three were so fresh, moist, delicate and delicious. The toffee pudding was my number one favorite and the banana cake/banana ice cream was second favorite. Listen you do not know what you are missing with these desserts. I love that they were not traditional first of all and almost lost my my mind with how great each one tasted. No disappointments at all. Tim the manager brought out a wonderful bottle of champagne ( thank you again Tim!) and Sarah our waitress, both were fabulous! They made sure all our needs were met. They also joined in on the commentary of tasting the fun desserts (which is awesome when trying new things) and just overall made sure we had a darn good time. Thank you again Tim and Sarah! The restaurant was ascetically pleasing. It had a cozy feeling. There is a bar of course. It's a very open concept restaurant, although we did have a private room in the back for those who want group/ privacy options. It is attached to the hotel which is also nice. It's located in the third ward so you can have fun, dine in to this beautiful restaurant and rest at the attached hotel. The bathroom was clean. It was not directly located in the restaurant. Since it is attached to the hotel, it's located in the lobby. In all, you will not be disappointed here. If you are looking at dinner options make sure you put in a reservation to avoid wait time.
