From reserving to returning it was an easy and comfortable process. The van we rented was the Kuga campervan, everything was in good working condition, it came with the winter kit(jackery battery, heated blanket and electric heater) the stove worked perfectly as well as the sink, microwave and refrigerator. Plenty of storage for two people and room for an extra person or child. I would definitely recommend this to any couple as a perfect tool to get away for a vacation. Took this bad boy on a 3,000 mile roadtrip from Hayward to Canada and back down over a two week period. First impression, the staff was very casual but informative. We checked out van, had many cosmetic errors but nothing else was wrong with it. We made it the two weeks without any problems. Check engine light came on at one point but the Travellers Autobarn help section informed us it was just something to note upon return. The fridge would only keep out food cold half of the time but we were also traveling along the PNW in the winter and the fridge ran off solar panels so I believe it was just due to lack of power. More than enough propane for cooking every meal, only needed to fill up the water tank once halfway on the trip. Overall, a great budget van. Staff seemed to be helpful when needed and the van got us there and back without any major issues. If you're looking for the luxurious van life experience this isn't the vehicle for you. But if you have a long roadtrip planned and want to save money on sleeping arrangements, definitely choose this route. Excited to rent again on any future long haul trips! read more

Let me preface this by saying that I knew what I was getting myself into by renting from Travellers - low-cost bare bones campervan. What I didn't know is how they would react to my legitimate concerns as a customer. Now I do. When we rented the campervan, we expected to receive a safe van with the bedding we had contracted for (pads for the lower bed and upper bed). Reasonable right? Well, you be the judge (only one pad (of three) was provided for the upper bed putting my son in a position to sleep on the wooden boards for 4 nights, an air conditioner that came on and off at will and would only run on the highest setting draining our gas, a cracked windshield, a change oil light that came on after driving only 800 miles, a Bluetooth converter that didn't work and a tire service light that was on for the entire trip). How do they respond when we make them aware of these concerns during our trip? They don't. How about when I follow up? I get an apology and a $169 refund offer and the contract clause that says: 22.6 Malfunctions of stereo systems, cabin lights, air-conditioning, fridges, microwaves, sink water pumps, and other Vehicle features that do not affect Vehicle operability, are not considered mechanical breakdowns, and Traveller's Autobarn will not refund rental fees or provide a rental extension or be responsible for any other payment to you because of any downtime of these systems and features. So, for my son sleeping on wooden boards for 4 nights, an AC that comes on and off at will in 100 degree heat, etc. in a van that cost us $1,000 for the 4 nights, $169 is their solution? I didn't even ask for a 100% refund, just 50% which I thought was more than reasonable. They didn't respond to that request. So, my advice if you are thinking of renting from them - 1) know they will pull out contract term 22.6 if anything outside of the vehicle operability doesn't work and 2) know it's likely they won't be fair with any of your legitimate concerns given they didn't think providing a 50% refund for not honoring their contractual terms of providing bedding for 3 people. My next step is contacting legal counsel and the Better Business Bureau as I don't want this to happen to someone else. UPDATE - I heard from Travellers corporate office who apologized again and said that not having the padding for the upper bed was completely unacceptable. They have resolved the situation to my satisfaction, and I appreciate them for doing so. I have updated this review from one star to four stars. read more

I had nothing less than an outstanding and seamless experience with Travellers Autobarn both in Inglewood, CA and at the San Francisco locations. My girlfriend and I set out on a California road trip from LA to San Francisco and had mapped out a route that would take us through Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks. The pick-up process was completely seamless and we were helped by Jordan at the Inglewood location. We ventured out in the height of the pandemic (November 2020), and Travellers Autobarn has beyond exceeded my expectations in regards to sanitation and cleanliness. We arrived with the van ready for pick-up with all the necessities included which was provided by Travellers Autobarn with the assistance of one of the Australia representatives Amy. We took off and immediately acclimated and got comfortable with driving the 18ft van which is similar to driving any truck as I drive a pick-up at home. They also provided a handy radio transmitter so I can play music off my iPhone and have GPS ready. I do recommend bringing a phone holder to attach to the dashboard. We ventured over 1000 miles and never had an issue with the van other than a blown fuse that blew probably under my control. I did get that replaced at a gas station as I was savvy enough to trouble shoot the issue. The Kuga van we had rented was a complete tank and was able to keep us off grid with the perfect amenities. The fridge, sink, stove and lights all worked off the auxiliary power (solar panels) so we can remain off-grid without worrying about shore power or a campsite hook-up. We did however, book a powered hook-up site for one night where temperatures hit below 20f so we could use the provided heater which needed a power source. Other than that it was fine adventuring through Sequoia and Yosemite with adequate sleeping bags even during winter. Overall, the experience with Travellers Autobarn has been nothing less than 5 stars and I would highly recommend it to any travelers looking to try something new or rent a campervan to take you off-grid! Even the customer service line provided any answers for questions we may had. I apologize that I can not recall the name of the manager of the San Francisco (Hayward, California) location. But, I do want to thank him for his help and accommodation as we arrived late for the drop-off time and he also was very kind and directed us the best way to get to our hotel. Overall we had an amazing experience with the Kuga van! Check in/out processes were very smooth. I recommend doing the pre-check in through the email they send you to save you time. This was our first time giving the van life a try and we really loved it! The bed is really easy to put together and take apart, and it's very convenient to be able to cook and eat in the van. Having the sink was a huge plus as we had our own private portable hand washing station (a must during COVID)! The bed is a little short, so just a heads up if you're tall. Our feet dangled off the bed a bit but I sleep in fetal position anyway so it wasn't a big deal (I'm 5'2" for ref). Other than that, we slept very comfortably. There's also a second twin size bed at the top but there were only two of us so we used that for extra storage. My one caveat was the cleanliness of the car. I had contacted them previously and was assured that once the customer returns the car cleaned, the staff will also clean it. It didn't seem as clean to me as I noticed a small amount of food spillage in the back and coffee stains in the front. These were pretty obvious and could be wiped off easily which had me wonder if it was actually cleaned prior to renting to us? I also found a sparkling water can that was left behind by the previous renters which was another indication that it may not have been cleaned by staff afterwards. This was concerning during COVID but I thankfully had alcohol wipes and wiped down the entire interior of the van at home before we headed out. It was not a big deal to me as it wasn't filthy or anything, just a bit dirty but nothing a good wipe down can't fix. The van is very cheap to rent plus with unlimited miles, it's a great value so I didn't mind a bit of cleaning myself. You are also allowed to walk through the vehicle to have a look before heading out if this concerns you. I am sure the staff will address any concerns you have on site as they're very helpful and friendly. With other campervan/RV rentals charging $100-$200/night with limited mileage per day, you can't beat their price here! The unlimited miles is AMAZING and despite being a good deal, their product and service is of great quality. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and look forward to renting again! We took the Kuga. It's honestly not great if you are 3 (the middle seat is small and uncomfortable for long rides), but the Kuga is great for 2. You get a lot for your money, including a kitchen that doesn't feel like a tack on at the end of the truck. The microwave is a great addition if you have power to plug it in, and the gas has plenty of capacity instead of a camping size canister as seem in some competitors The staff in San Francisco (Hayward) went above and beyond (thanks Jared) and got us the right Kuga for our trip (they are not all the same). The Kuga v8 had plenty of power to climb at altitude and is speed limited to 100mph. You don't want to go that fast with it as the steering and suspension are spongy, but the point being that you'll have enough power to pass and climb. The downside though is that the engine is a gas pig. We only got 12.5 to 14mpg during the trip. Plan accordingly. The bed was good enough (slightly short for me, and I'm just 5"10), but honestly that's still a lot better than a tent. The best part was the price and unlimited miles. That just beat the competition by a lot. read more

I'll start with pricing. This company offers insanely reasonable pricing for its rentals. I've looked at what's out there for years in terms of van and trailer rentals and their pricing with unlimited miles can't be beat. The people who work there are great. Super responsible, friendly, organized and clean. The environment is clean, organized, and modern. Computers, a fridge with complimentary waters and soda, a clean and stocked bathroom. These amenities, like cold waters, feminine products and computers, are amazing when you've been on the road for a week. They van themselves are new and clean. Design wise, there are a couple of things that I thought could be better - but I don't build vans - so what do I know what's available and possible? Everything is new and clean and works and it's organized. If you try and bring more than two people in a van you are insane. Don't do that. One is ideal, really. Gas mileage is about 8-10mpg depending on elevation gains. Be prepared to spend an insane amount of money if you cover a lot of distance. I spent $750 on my first 7 day trip. Less on my second because I stayed in one place for longer. Great, modern company. Great pricing. An ideal budget way to travel around. read more

Charged hidden fees and no disinfecting for vehicles. Charge customer extra with fraudulent inducement terms and conditions. I rent the van for a weekend and I was happy about the van's function and quick check-in until I received a bill that they charged me $200 cleaning fees. Even more ridiculous, I found a pair of socks obviously from the last customer that showing they probably even don't bother to clean the vehicle before they gave it to me, let alone co-vid disinfecting prevention. They basically exposed you to the risk of getting infected. I returned the vehicle with good condition and even an over-filled gas tank based on my previous experience of renting a vehicle. And during the check-in, the staff was telling me how to use the vehicle, I need a driver license and insurance is optional and ask me to take photos of outside condition vehicles. Nobody mentioned there is a cleaning fee could be $200. Later they showed me a term and condition which I found out it's hidden in an outside link in their email you would not notice until you are shocked by the extra charge. In this term and condition, there is $200 cleaning fee unless you pay $100 in advance, $50 refill fee if you don't refill the propane/gas and nobody mentioned that and not on their website neither. Those are not small amount and shouldn't it be stated on their website? The answer is NO. They tell you you can book it and pay later. After they have your credit info, they charge you whatever they want because of this almost invisible T&C. read more

I usually dont write bad reviews and I wish I had better experience with Travellers autobarn, SF location. I will provide my honest review here to help folks check out all other RV/camper rental services before making a decision. Very much disappointed at the service. We have rented from other camper van and RV services, have never been on a trip with this much anxiety and discomfort. The van condition wasn't good at all, single person handling multiple customers(felt bad for him). I'll start from the pick up to drop off experience sequentially: 1. We were on time for pick up, the person was nice and interactive. However it felt that the vehicle wasn't thoroughly checked before handing it over. While checking the vehicle, we found out the tire pressure was half of what it should have been. The person didnt tell us anything about it, however we had a pressure gauge with us and found the issue. 2. We even checked all the fluid levels and there was no windshield washer fluid, we asked the person to fill it and he complied. 3. The van had an awful smell inside, the foam mattresses in the cabin space were dirty and torn. 4. The bug net didn't fit/damaged in the upper section windows, could not open the windows for fresh air while camping. 5. Once we started driving, we realized the AC in the driving section works intermittently- it runs for 5 mins and then stops. We were visiting a hot place in summer months and we expected to have a comfortable camping trip inside a van (whole point of renting a camper van). 6. This is a biggest bummer: The solar panel worked fine for the 1st night, 2nd day onwards we found that the solar panel wasn't charging. We were in an area with ample amount of sun, we lost the exhaust/fan, lights, water, fridge (all our food went bad). We were in an area without any network coverage and felt stuck. Good that we carried sufficient water with us as a backup. We had to be without all the above facilities for 3 days, I dont know why we rented a camper van and a normal SUV rental would have been less stressful and more comfortable. 7. While returning we conveyed our disappointment to the person in charge, he gave some explanation which was never conveyed to us prior to renting. We asked if we can get compensated for all our troubles, distresses and discomforts; he casually refused and said the customer service agent will get in contact. Overall, I feel that based on reviews we thought of giving a try to Travellers Autobarn, it turned out to be a total disappointment. Total lack of communication/information about the limitation of their vans. The van was not up to the condition for a comfortable trip, the person helping us pick up the vehicle may not be knowledgeable/proactive enough to give us with all the drawbacks/issues with the service for first time renters; neither the demo video provides it. There was no concern for customer issues, felt like renting a full size SUV would have been way better. I am not sure if I can recommend this service to my camping group/friends. read more

Unfortunately changed to 7 day rental minimum! I was watching pricing for days, getting quotes for a van, but today I went to go book it and now it's giving me a 7 day minimum rental period. I was able to snag a difficult to get camping spot by the ocean that I've been trying for years and thought this would be the perfect scenario to try the Travelers Vans. But a 7 day minimum is a super long time to rent a camper van. 4 night minimum would be more reasonable. I can't afford a 7 day rental, nor get that much time off work and they won't honor the quote I had the day before. Too bad as I was excited to try the Travelers vans for my camping trip. Great camper van, perfect size for 2 pax comfort but less cumbersome than an RV. I thought I could use the plugs by the couch/bed using the solar energy, but instead the van (Kuga) had to be plugged in for those (same as microwave). We had an issue with a bad battery while plugged in at at campground that had to be replaced, but I think it was only bad luck. Other than that, solar panel gives you more independence. I like the unlimited miles, unlike other companies which require to purchase miles packages in advance. I would recommend this company. read more

Making reservations was really easy to connect with someone and when we picked up the van everything was ready to go. It is definitely a quick process when you do the pre check-in with your license and insurance etc. online before you head there. We took the KUGA van from SF to Oregon for a few days. I honestly am a tent camper; I love sleeping without the rain fly and seeing all the stars. But this camper van was really awesome especially for a further drive and making pit stops on the road to eat or sleep. The van is minimal yet gives you what you really need. Anytime I go camping I always struggle with washing my dishes. So it definitely was great having a sink in the van! Everything is really straight forward with how to use and set everything up. The bed is pretty comfortable too. I think the other big plus of this camper van was that it's spacious enough yet it still pulls in easily at a gas station or parking lot. There's a vent/fan that also made the night comfortable since it was a bit warm where we camped. Always make sure to turn the water pump off also! The amount of outlets in the car make it really easy to charge all types of electronics. I was able to do some homework in the back which made life so much easier. The cabinets are spacious and there's plenty of room to store stuff under the seats and above the counter. As i parked up anywhere people would come up to me & ask me where did i find the camper & for what price, no one could believe for what incredible pricing travelers autobarn has these campers for! I loved how easy it was to convert the van from table (dining area) to a bed. There is also extra room above the bed, for a total of two beds. Cushions were actually comfortable! There is a fan on the top of the camper so you could cool down as you park up & enjoy the stunning views as your sightseeing or sleeping! They provide two beach chairs as well for extra convenience. My best friend and I have had one of the worst experiences in our lives booking a campervan through this company. For well over a year, we carefully planned each and every detail of our once-in-a-lifetime road trip across the Pacific Northwest of America. We coordinated travel from Germany, spent hours making reservations at national park campgrounds, purchased provisions for our 2 week trip and meticulously plotted each stop along our route to ensure that we would maximize our experience with our limited vacation time in America. After picking up our campervan in Oakland CA, Instead of embarking on our dream vacation, we didn't get 40 miles before the nightmare began. First the campervan had a flat tire right before the Golden Gate Bridge. We called road side assistance 5 times before "Ron" answered. Ron sent someone out to change the tire, which took over an hour and a half, and then Ron said we had to take the campervan to Big O Tires to have it inspected. It turns out the campervan was unsafe to drive as the other 3 tires were also completely bald. Ron then told us we had to drive the campervan back to Oakland to exchange it for another one. We lost an entire day of our trip dealing with the flat tire and the unsafe campervan, going back and forth exchanging the vans, etc. Once we had the new van, we once again began our road trip. We only made it to LA before the water pump starting leaking. We immediately called Ron and he once again sent us to a local filing station. Needless to say, when we were dreaming of our vacation it did not include Ron, road side service, Big O tires, exchanging campervans and now hours spent sitting at a filing station while they fixed a broken water pump. After the repair was made, and with little time remaining, we decided to drive directly to Las Vegas. Halfway to Las Vegas, the engine light went on. We immediately pulled over and texted Ron. He told us that it was safe to drive, but that we should get it checked once we arrived in Las Vegas. We did not feel safe continuing to drive with the engine light on, so we stopped at another filing station to get it checked. After an hour, the mechanic told us that he could not fix it and that we should get a replacement campervan. So, we went (once again) to exchange the campervan, only to be told that there were no more campervans available. Due to this company's negligence, repeatedly providing subpar and unsafe transportation, two young girls in a foreign country were stranded multiple times, could have been hurt and have lost out on a once in a life time opportunity to tour the western region of America. We ended driving in one big circle from mechanic to mechanic ending back exactly where we started- not in Zion National Park and not in Yosemite, but back in the Bay Area. In short, your company has ruined my vacation. read more

As a regular camping party of 2, my partner and I enjoy both what we call "fancy camping" as well as backcountry experiences and have followed our passion throughout four states. But in all of our adventures, we have never tried van camping before. Since we've been mostly backpacking for the past year, we were excited about a different camping experience when we rented the Kuga campervan out of Oakland in December 2020 for a week--and it did not disappoint! It's hard to know where to begin we had such a great experience, but I'll give it a shot. Logistics--the biggest challenge for us was that there were only three US locations to rent from. We elected SF and flew in, caught an easy Lyft to Oakland to pick up the van. Pick-up was quick, super smooth, and staff was friendly and helpful. The van was ready to rock when we got there and after a stop for a week's worth of food and firewood--we were off! Space--the inside of the Kuga is very comfortable and we really, really enjoyed the ability to stand inside. Plenty of storage above the driver/passenger seats and under benches offered us a good amount of space to stash our groceries and campfire supplies de-cluttering the space. We even had the dish and extra winter bedding packages--still plenty of room! Comfort--the van came with absolutely everything we needed, though we brought our own sanitization products and a line to dry clothes. The bed converted from benches slept us both very comfortably with a TON of extra space. We did not end up trying the stovetop at all, as we were trying some homemade backpacking recipes with our Jet Boil. We also did not want to camp at grounds with hookups, which were necessary to operate the stove. The running water is so, so, SO convenient for all things (other than drinking) and it was such a luxury after filtering our own water every night when backpacking. We felt it very private with curtains and did not have a problem with the cold at night at all (lows in the 30s). Though, we are used to snow in the winter, so some foggy coastal cool was no problem at all. The cab itself was also very comfortable--plenty of room to stretch and spread out. Value--as a ranger for the Dyrt (if you don't know about this app yet, you really must check it out if you enjoy camping), I am lucky to occasionally have the opportunity to sample new equipment. Our Kuga rental was one of these instances. We did elect their insurance (approximately $150), and prepaid a cleaning fee of $100, but the daily rate was waived. However, after having put much time into cost to rent vans of this nature in the past, I can say with absolute confidence that this is the lowest price you will find and it comes with a ton of amenities in the Kuga. There are a few different options as to how you can rent these, but the unlimited miles is for sure the way to go to be cost-effective but also have the chance to really travel time-wise. We enjoyed it so much that we are booking again this year--we just haven't decided--NorCal or Australia? read more

Beware of this place! They advertise 2019- new campers. Then they say the camper is 2005 and the"fit-out " (whatever that is) is new. False advertising and misrepresentation!!!!! read more

The camper van had everything we needed for a six day hiking trip. This was our first time to travel in a camper van. The experience was great. For a true off-grid experience or even longer trips, however, we think we may need to find solutions for charging laptops and a shower setup. Can't wait for the next adventure. read more

Good value and would rent again. Key for me was the unlimited miles and ease of operation. We lightly used the auxillary battery nightly for lights and fridge for 6 days. We never dipped below 60% and recharged to 100% everyday with the solar. The gray water we used for dish washing (10 meals) and didn't run out. read more
