Pesto farfalle and Risotto frutta de mare
Liz P.

Found this place while walking through a bunch of other restaurants. We were craving for pasta and we got what we wanted. Service were great and they have the simplest dishes with abundant taste. It is the best risotto we've had during this trip.

Man, Yelp is hating on the little wooden boy. But Trattoria Pinocchio deserves 4 stars. Here's why. 1. Location. You can sit in the plaza looking at the Reina Sofia museum. Sure, you can do that at several restaurants and usually places that overlook tourist attractions are garbage, but Pinocchio is the exception to that rule. Enjoy the terraza (outdoor space). You pay a slight premium for it, but it's really nice. 2. The Service. Our waiter was hopelessly outgunned by a full terraza of tourists, but he hustled like mad. We rarely sat with empty plates more than a moment before he ran back out with the next course. Service in Europe is usually garbage, but this guy was hustling. At one point, a drink cart outside rolled off its perch and tons of liquor bottles shattered on the floor. Who cleaned it up? Our waiter (even though it wasn't his fault and even though he was still trying to serve roughly 15 tables outside). This man might have provided our best service in 10 days across Spain. 3. The Value. If you order one of their special menus, you get a RIDICULOUS amount of food for your euro. It is not world-class gourmet cuisine, but it's pretty darn good. For about 15 €, we got delicious bagel-like bread and potato chips to start, a patatitas (baked potato with bacon and aioli), tasty pesto fettuccini, excellent cheesecake, a bottle of water (never free in Europe) and a glass of wine. For FIFTEEN EURO. Insane. If you order off the regular menu, the value does drop off, so take that into consideration. The special menus give you a ton of flexibility. Yes, you will eat better food elsewhere, but there are three awesome reasons to chow down at Trattoria Pinocchio before or after your visit to the masterpieces of Reina Sofia.

I am suspect of any cafe that closely resides next to a major tourist attraction. Perhaps it was the great time I was having at the Reina Sofia and the appetite that came with it, but I thought this cafe was quite good. I could have enjoyed the temperate Madrid air all day with a full belly, staring at the museum. I wonder if they paid that really annoying busker to butcher Beatles tunes so we would leave.

Looks like the wine glass missed a couple of cleaning cycles.

Service was excellent but the quality of the Italian cuisine was mediocre; much better options in Madrid

Great food and kind staff. Although it is placed in a very touristic quartier, most of the clients seem to be local families.

The location is heavily decorated (maybe too much?) with Italian themed art decor and other items. The interior of the restaurant has lots of tables but they are separated into smaller segments for better privacy and less noise. Service was top notch - prompt, friendly and flexible as we fitted in our toddler into the table too. Food was fresh and came rapidly. The menu is broad. There is a wide range of dishes, including many kinds of pasta and a broad range of Neopolitan style pizzas with a delicious thin crust. The actual food quality was uniformly great. All our dishes were delicious. My pizza was great. One of my wife's all-time favourite Italian dishes (Provola alla Pizzaiola - aka Cheese Soup) was available here. It is the first time we have found it outside Italy, and it was just as good as she remembered. I would strongly recommend this restaurant. We ended up here because I'd done advance planning and this was the Italian place I thought would be best, and neither of us were disappointed.

The hostess was kind enough to have us wait only 5 minutes and then place us in a table for two with an added chair to accommodate us. The service was very friendly. We received bread and olives on the house as we sat down. We ordered the pasta with salmon and vodka sauce so yummy, the lasagna and the tortelloni pasta filled with pumpkin. All the dishes were very good and we also ordered a bottle of wine. At the end for dessert we ordered a tiramisu and a cheesecake which were so so creamy and delicious. Once again at the end they gave us some limoncello on the house. Overall a very nice dining experience we will definitely be back!

Before going…read morewe knew they had a Gluten Free menu but didn't realize just how seriously they take allergies. Waitress was fabulous! She asked about allergens while taking our drink order. Made great suggestions for Italian wine and beer. When she brought a tasting plate with mortadella and a bread basket she pointed out to our celiac son that his GF bread was on the way - and wow! He was so impressed with his own warm HF baguette (separate packing clearly showed it was GF) Basically the entire Italian menu has available GF options which made dining a delight for my son (probably over ordered for himself but had snack for the next day!). Delicious pastas (bolognese was so tasty!) and pizzas (crisp and chewy crusts on both regular and GF). Every part of our evening was delightful.

They provide an appetizer which is a pickled ham (unfortunately I do not like pickles, wish I had an option to pick)! They offer Italian water and beer. The beer was nice and crisp. The ambiance was very nice and cozy. I would definitely return here again. I was able to order right away and received my food pretty quickly.

The Papardelle with mushrooms and a poached egg was exquisite. Pasta was perfect and fresh as can be, and the sauce was creamy but not too overpowering. The menu here pulls a fusion of Spanish fare and modern Italian food. They have all traditional modern dishes with a touch of non-traditional but in a very good way. I got the prawn risotto which tasted very good after a long day of walking and visiting Madrid. My partner ended up getting a lasagna and it came out in it's own small iron cast pan. For an appetizer, or tapa if you will, we got a nice warm soup bowl that came with a side of dehydrated veggie chips (all homemade). It was the perfect warm and cozy meal for a unseasonably cold and rainy Madrid evening. Even the fresh parm came out in a small iron cast tiny dutch oven/pan that was adorable and very on brand with the modern decor around. There is a wall, in one of the seating areas, that has flowers in olive oil so nicely displayed and perfect for a picture background. Service was timely and we were even offered a shot of liquor before we continued our night by our waitress. We had to decline because we were so so full of pasta and food and satisfied.

The restaurant is on a nice small street, so while wandering the area we just happened to stumble upon it on our first day in Madrid. When I saw that it was authentic pasta, I figured it would be great to give it a try, and I'm so glad that we did. We went on a Sunday, the same day as El Rastro, huge weekly flea market in the La Latina neighborhood. The streets were packed and so was Nina. However, we snagged a large community table in the back. One important tip about going on Sunday- they have a limited menu due to the amount of people coming because of El Rastro. The menu offers 2-3 tapas, and only 2 lunch options. But don't worry because both options are AMAZING. Their carbonara and Gnocci are to die for! We also had tinto de Verano to drink (sangria) that was also really yummy. We loved this place so much that on our last full day we had to return for one more meal! We went on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch, perfect time because it wasn't crowded and they also had their full menu available. We were happy to be greeted by the same lovely servers who remembered us from Sunday. My fiancé went with the carbonara again and I tried one of their daily specials, and OMG I am so glad so did. They offered a pappardelle black truffle and parmesan pasta and it was life changing to say the least. I spent time thinking about how I can bring some back to the US. I also tried to savor each bite by eating very slowly lol. During that meal we also had the gnocchi bravas, their take on the classic patatas bravas. That also was amazing, and a nice change since we'd been eating the traditional bravos all week. Please, please, please if you're in Madrid stop by Ninas Pasta Bar for lunch. You will not regret it and you probably will think about the pasta for the rest of your trip, like I did!!
