Found this place while walking around with two hungry kids (7 and 4). The staff were so welcoming and nice! We got pesto gnocchi, carbonara, and a Diablo pizza. Along with some Fanta for the kids and a beer for dad and we were good to go. Food was delicious. Piping hot and quite delicious. The restaurant was very busy with guests dining in, take out orders and a squad of bicycle delivery guys waiting to pickup orders. We enjoyed the caponata which is served in a pizza dough bowl. Looking for a good "Italian" place down in Madrid? Well Pizzaiolo is a great place for that. This place was a nice change from all the tapas I've been having during my vacation to Spain. The place itself is not very big but once you enter, you do have that feeling that you have been transported to Italy. The ambiance casual is very nice, with the servers were very accommodating to an English speaking party of 4 people. We got there at around 11:30pm and maybe wait around 10-15 minutes. It was not too bad. Once inside we ordered one of the Italian wines they had, which was very good and then had the specialty pizza with slices of chorizo and ham. The slices of chorizo looked like they were slices of pepperoni on the pizza. The pizza itself was good, has it definitely had a true Italian style to it, with its thin crust and baked in a brick oven. In addition, like I mentioned before, this is a nice change from the massive amounts of tapas I was eating in Madrid at the time, so this meal did satisfy me. For dessert, I got this hugeeee canoli, which I would definitely recommend to get for all you people with a sweet tooth. This place looks like it gets crowded at the peak of dinner (10-11pm), so be ready for a little wait when needed. It did look like many locals congregate here, so that shows how much people are the area appreciate what Pizzaiolo has to offer. read more

Another great meal thanks to fellow Yelpers. After eating so much French and Portuguese and Spanish dishes for the last few weeks, we were craving for pizza (go figure!) This place had the most as well as highest ratings. It took us over 15 minutes to walk there from where we were but it all paid off. There are many "pizza" joints but this is the one. It's nestled within a business district as we noted other restaurants full of suited people taking their lunches. The anterior is attractive but the interior is even better. Very cute and has a neighborhood and homey feel. Decorations add a nice Italian charm and appeal. They have English menus but the server was very helpful and patient. There is no indication of the size of the pizzas and we thought the prices reflected a personal size so we ordered three with two salads. The pizzas are a huge! Initially, I thought we were going to have left overs but no way. The crusts are super thin. The amount of cheese is minimal and the sauce is flavorful. I had the anchovies while the kids had a Calzone and the Pizzaiola. I love thin crust pizzas, and if not for the thin crust we would not have finished the pizzas. The price is reasonable and although we spent 65 EUs for 3 pizzas, 2 salads and 3 beers, it's well worth it. US pizzas got nothing on this. Having just returned from Rome, I still had pizza/pasta on the brain when this place appeared on my diner's radar. It sits atop Yelp's list of pizza places in Madrid, and in my opinion it deserves the honor. It's Italian, staffed by Italians making Italian-style pizza. It feels every bit the true Italian pizzeria, from the gaudy decorations to the saucy, loud banter between the kitchen and the front of the house. The pizza is what you'd expect if you've enjoyed a real Italian pizza, and the bolonese my girlfriend ordered was on-point as well. We got in, we ordered, ate, and got out in what seemed like less than an hour. We had prompt, cheery service and didn't lack for anything at any time, which felt for the world like our experience in Roman restaurants. We were craving some GOOD pizza and after doing some research this place seemed to be the best, and based on the variety of pizza, the prices, and the good service, I would still stay it could be the top. I personally didn't enjoy my pizza. I ordered the quattro formaggi which I had high hopes for. Instead I found the crust to be very hard and the pizza itself was bland. My husband had the veggie pizza and it was MUCH better, probably because of the red sauce. We picked this place based on Yelp reviews of close by pizzerias in Madrid. It was a 5 minute walk from the apartment. It's on a very quaint street. The staff was very nice and friendly. There were a lot of good pizza options on the menu. They didn't have a mushroom pizza but when I asked they made one for me without an up charge. The pizza is quite large.
