Quick note before the review: This is not the same restaurant it used to be some years ago. Old 5-star reviews were well deserved by that time. The food's quality was terrible: - The pizza ingredients were very low quality and not well distributed. - We ordered a simple margherita and it didnt even contain basil leaves. - We ordered a different pizza with egg and bacon: it was also really bad. - Even the balsamic vinegar was bad. (They only had once of these thick vinegar bottles, and the cap was all dirty) - the focaccia was the worst: It has a thick section that was half baked, and the rest of it looked like a thin crispy bread/cookie For the staff: - The staff tried to avoid adding the discount from the reservation. After complaining, they fixed it, but you shouldn't need to complain to prevent being charged extra. - The staff was a bit lost on what was their menu. - They were polite at least The restaurant: - This used to be a different restaurant, one of the best pizza places in Madrid. About aprox. 2 years ago, the owner sold the restaurant and a different one was put in place of it. However, they decided to keep the name of the restaurants as well as all the excellent reviews it had in apps like yelp and trip advisor. While it could be a bit unfair to compare, as it is a completely different restaurant, in which only the name of it remained, the restaurant now has cheaper prices than the original one from years ago, but the ingredients are even cheaper, so in reality, the quality to prize ratio got a massive negative impact. read more

Great location. Quick service. We ordered 3 pizzas. Pizzas are similar to New York style. Very thin where you fold it to eat it. Tasted good, but not great. The problem with this pizza is if you wait too long, the middle of the pie just falls apart due to the sauce/cheese soaking the crust. There isn't anything there to support the pizza. Was in plaza mayor and sightseeing and had a taste for Italian. Grazie Mille did not disappoint. Had the Tricolore pizza. Was AMAZING! Fresh buffalo mozzarella, fresh Ricola, the crust was outstanding. Best pizza I've had in Europe. My wife ordered the calzone and loved it as well. Service was excellent. We came before they opened and they allowed us to sit down and rest and brought us drinks while we waited for the kitchen to open. Very friendly. I highly recommend it and would come back again. We visited wonderful Madrid for 3 days. We craved fresh Italian pasta and decided to walk here for an early dinner. We entered the empty restaurant and requested the table by the window. The server acted annoyed but said yes. We ordered eggplant lasagna, salad and 2 glasses of wine. The food and wine were fabulous....BUT we waited a reallly long time for our food especially considering the place was empty when we ordered and there were numerous staff. So - I was craving Italian after all I am half Italian. I quickly realized that when in Europe and you crave Italian cuisine, just hop on a train and head over to Italy! I ordered what I was hoping would be an amazing serving of Ravioli with mussels in a pomodoro sauce......what I got was a half cold and half hot plate of ravioli which was definitely re-heated in a possible micros ave? The mussels were not properly cleaned and a bit grainy. :( - BTW I love love mussels so I was disappointed. The only thing that kept me trying to finish was the zucchini. The sauce was ok, but I have had much better. It was a little bland, there was also some small shrimps which unfortunately did not add flavor as they had a metallic after taste. :( I had attempted to eat for lunch but waited was told to come back later since they had no availability. I was sad but excited because it was packed! So I was definitely intrigued to give it a try! Overall my server was fantastic and extremely friendly! I have seen reviews of Grazie Mille for quite awhile but never went ... I am not sure why. But on this night I decided to give it a try ... I never should have waited. The vibe is warm and cozy but very casual. Extremely active crowd with a great buzz as a UEFA Champions League game was on. The food is amazing! I had carbonara which was cooked to perfection ... They brought out a whole guide that had that noted every single allergen they had in the restaurant and made it clear what did, what didn't, and what they could do to alter dishes. One of the best Italian Restaurants I've been to outside if Los Angeles. The Regina Margarita pizza was excellent, great tomato flavor and cheese, super thin until the edge with high quality dough. Ok, so how do you get the hankering for pizza in Spain? In a city that boasts tapas, paella and meat galore, pizza would feel a bit left field. Like going for sushi but feeling steak when the first piece of bluefin tuna belly nigiri shows up. Enter stage left - Grazie Mille! Total breath of fresh air in a street littered with cured meats on tiny plates. First of all, take in the decor and space. Gelato in the front of the store next to a showcase of their Tyrion Lannister sized pizza. It caught me a bit off guard as I thought "oh no... tapas pizza?? Crikey!" but luckily no. They serve normal size pizza. (and other dishes but I digress) The wife and I sat by the front door and was able to observe the room. Not too packed but folks filed in as time rolled on. At one point (around 10:40pm) it got pretty packed (not just for a Thursday but for any day mind you) We ordered the papardelle alla norcina and the Grazie Mille house special pizza. Both were damn epic. The papardelle has a very light cream sauce with hints of dill and pepper. The pasta itself was al dente and cooked just right. Portion wasn't huge (read: American sized) but knowing the pizza's arrival was imminent, it worked quite well to satisfy my first pangs f hunger. The pizza was something else. The crust was very much what you would get in any GOOD NY pizza joint and the meat very tasty. The overall mouth feel of crust, meat and sauce was just divinely satisfying despite a slightly soggy middle of the pan yet sauced just right to tie it all together. Dessert was all topped off with a lemonciello shot which was sweet but decently strong, compliments of a check-in on yelp! (See? It does pay to check in!!) Overall 5 stars for food and ambiance. This is good Italian, not just for Madrid but for anyone looking for something other than baby sized plates. read more

Decided to give this place a try because it was close to our hotel and had good reviews. After eating there, I'm convinced the restaurant payed people to write good reviews. Here are my qualms: 1. The staff is incredibly loud and unprofessional 2. Everything about the decor is ridiculous. Like 10 styles thrown together with poor craftsmanship. 3. The cypress salad had no flavor. The tomatoes weren't even ripe and the cheese was like a sponge. 4. My pasta entire specifically "not in a cream sauce", but sure enough it came out with a cream sauce. 5. The pizza i order was cooked to perfection and the ratio from crust to sauce to cheese was fit to my expectation. Had the provolone al forno as a starter, which was really good, and focaccia on the side. We ordered pizzas for main course, but the pizzas were pretty much tasteless of other than bread and tomato sauce. The waiter was too smart for my taste, offered bread for the starter, and water for the wine, without giving any notion that it would also be billed. He tried to hard to sell extras after the main course, including a lemoncita that we could see everybody else in the restaurant got for free as they payed their bills. Felt more like a cash cow than a welcomed customer. Better Italian restaurants are available in the area in my opinion. read more

What did I love about it? 5 stars for the house wine - After two glasses, I could not have found better tasting vino tinto. 5 stars for the pizza. We ordered the pizza with cheese and truffles. It was outstanding melt in your mouth flavor. 5 stars for the ravioli grande (stuffed with lobster). The filling was delicious and the sauce was very savory without any cream or extra fattiness. 5 stars for the delicious chocolate cake with ice cream. My fiancee and I gobbled it up. It was one of the worst pizza I have ever had. The Iberian ham was too salty, and the choice of cheese was salty as well. The menu said Serrano ham was the topping but I got Iberian for some unknown reason. The sauce was too tart. It has way way too much salt. If you want pizza, do yourself a favor and don't eat it in madrid. I've had better. My fiancé had the carbonara, which he said was ok. For the price of the carbonara, the portion was too small.
