Rustic place - there is no menu. The chef hopes to the market nearby and gets whatever vegetables are in season and concocts deliciousness. The green salad had a hint of bitterness and sweetness at the same time - simply tossed in olive oil. The house are chips were crispy and light, the pastas were cooked perfectly - I prefer the red one.

A must visit!! Rick Steve's guided us here and we are so thankful. The menu is, there is no menu, they serve the chef's design for the day. Water, wine, 5 courses, tremendous value, $$. Loved the patio seating. Our meal: red wine, water, lentils, fresh mozzarella, Roma tomatoes, prosciutto, bread, meatballs, rice balls. Rigatoni pasta red and green sauces, veal cutlets, homemade potato chips, salad. Lemon cake, and mango juice shot.

Come hungry when you done at Trattoria der Pallaro. You will be eating a lot of food. You also get to choose between red wine and white wine. I think the best dish for dinner was the arancini. Definitely call in advance to make reservations, however, the place was not completely full when we dined here tonight.

    Pasta. Delicious pasta.

Why 5 stars? Because it was like no other dining experience. --- --- --- The experience was so unique because you pay 25 Euros and they bring you whatever it is that they made that night. According to the photos and reviews, it seems to be virtually the same menu every night, so that takes a little bit of the cool factor away, but it was still really neat! As for the food itself, it was probably worth 4-stars: Prosciutto & Mozzarella - Always amazing! But it came with some kind of cabbage which we didn't love. Peas & the Lentils - Both of these were kind of a bit off with a weird flavor. Veal - Nearly impossible to cut with the provided butter knife. Pasta - The best part of our meal - absolutely delicious. Strawberry Juice - They give you a small amount of this to finish dinner and it's amazing! I wish I would have had a larger serving! But the point of visiting this restaurant is to get the home cooking of Grandma. I'm not sure if Grandma is actually cooking these days, but she's probably pretty involved with the recipes. We sat outside and I watched her come in and out of the restaurant, greeting and talking to people, despite speaking very little English. That part of the experience was everything I'd hoped for.

We accidentally stumbled in here when we couldn't get into a much busier restaurant a few blocks down. Lucky us! We were greeted by a straight forward server telling us it was 25 euros per person for wine and 4 courses - done! This was one of our favorite nights! the wine was amazing, homemade. The food was extremely simple and delicious!

One of our favorite meals in Rome was at Trattoria Der Pallaro. Rick Steves recommends this well-worn eatery in his Rome guidebook and I am so glad we followed his suggestion! Paola Fazi "Grandma" and her family serve a four course home-cooked Roman meal with wine, coffee, and a fresh-squeezed juice for €25 per person. This rustic restaurant has no menu because grandma cooks a different meal each night. Trattoria der Pallaro's slogan is: "Here, you'll eat what we want to feed you." While the menu changes each night the courses are very similar. During our visit we had the following: Appetizers: A simple, yet tasty assortment of hearty bread, mozzarella, prosciutto, olives, lentils, fennel, and fried rice balls. Pasta: Rigatoni served with two different types of sauce (Carbonara and Amatriciana) that were perfectly al dente. Main Course: A garden salad with a light vinaigrette, roasted pork, and homemade potato chips. At this point I was so stuffed that I could hardly eat another bite, but grandma insisted that I clean my plate! Luckily, I always have room for dessert! Dessert: The most phenomenal apple cake I have ever had. The homemade crust was divine! After dessert we were served shot glasses of fresh squeezed strawberry juice. While the food at Trattoria der Pallaro isn't fancy or gourmet, the food is incredibly fresh and homemade and you can taste the love that grandma puts into her cooking. The meal reminded me of similar meals my Italian grandmother has cooked for us over the years so this was a nice trip down memory lane. The night truly felt like a trip to grandmother's house! Next time I find myself in Rome I will definitely be dining at Trattoria der Pallaro!

Based on the enthusiastic recommendation of a friend and a stellar lunch at Roscioli, we decided to gamble and have dinner at Trattoria del Pallaro. We like to do high/low on trips so having an awesome "high" lunch means aiming for a "low" dinner. The 25 euro per person dinner meant that! We walked up after lunch and easily made a dinner reservation in the patio for that night. It rained that night, so the patio was closed. I have a feeling that lovely weather would have made the open patio charming. Instead we felt like we were having dinner in a tent; totally not their fault for the weather but absolutely not what we were looking for on our last dinner in Rome on our anniversary trip. It was further compounded by the presence of about 50 loud teenagers on a school trip. Yikes. It was a night and day difference after they left! So what sold me was the premise that the menu was different every night. Except my dinner looks just like the rest of the yelp pics posted, and I saw the menu posted by the door where you walked in. Its definitely made in bulk. For 25 euro, it was okay. I enjoyed the fennel and lentils but the remainder of my dinner was disappointing. The noodles were most disappointing; while the sauce was good, I didn't have a single intact noodle in my dish. We were served potato chips with our veal - that was a first. We brought our own wine and they supplied us with a corkscrew and charged us no fee; although an extra carafe only cost us 3 euro, it was just blah. I'm not sure how the other yelper was upcharged so much but as a result of her review, I made sure to ask the price before they brought it out. If you are someone who eats to live and abhors the paradox of choice and/or if you are in a large group and need a spot to dine, this place will be a great spot for you. If you are like me and live to eat, you will do as we did and start googling where to head next during your meal...

If you want a pleasant experience where you know the food you are eating good food, then this is a good place for you. There is no menu. We had about 8 different courses, all were very good in their own way. We had some mozzarella, fennel, lentils, and delicious prosciutto just to name a few appetizers. The pasta was two-ways, and the main dish of veal was juicy and tender. Overall, it was a nice dinner where we didn't have to think about what to order!

Review # 1200 After…read moresome shopping on the Via cola Di Riemzo, we were ready for lunch. This spot was a Yelp find. We arrived just before they opened at 12:30. We asked for a table outside and the kind lady asked us if we had a reservation (oh oh). We didn't. No problem as we took our pick of one of the tables. Two levels inside with a small Bar in the back. Before we knew it, outside seating was full and inside also filled up-a good sign. We ordered a liter (ended up being too much but when in Rome...) of their house Red and enjoyed it. For starters, we ordered the Fried Artichokes (thick breading and will order the Roman style with garlic/vinegar next time), fried Zucchini and Suppli-Cacio Pepe. The Suppli was delicious and was enjoyed the most. For main, it was Pasta Carbonara (Guanciale )-Proper carbonara and the streak of not having a bad version of this dish in Rome continues. The sliced Beef with mushrooms was also delicious -super tender and thin pieces of beef (medium rare as requested). We asked if the Tiramisu was house-made. Our server answered, "yes, and I am the one who makes it." How could we not order after that?! One of the best Tiramisus we've had. Perfect balance of coffee dipped lady fingers with cream-delicious! Our Server was kind, attentive and full of hustle -she was covering a lot of ground. Don't miss this Gem if you are in the Prati district.

I had possibly the most amazing chick food pasta a girl could imagine. Girls know what girl food is. The pasta in Italy is just better -obviously. But then put all sorts of girl flavors on it like Lemon and Orange, just lightly enough, zest with a small hint of cheese-..... omgosh. Yes, yes, and yes. Need my hubs to replicate at home. He is going to be busy trying to perfect this. Tagliatelle with orange and lemon parmesan. This was it. It was the best. Everything else we ordered was amazing as well. Wait outside. They don't have a sign telling you to wait, no server telling you to wait. You wait out there, wondering if you're in the right place, but then people stand behind you and you're like - oh! I'm here. This is the place. There are possibly 4 tables inside. It's small. I read about them being rude- we did not have that problem. In fact, they made a mistake and we kindly let them know we ordered something else- they corrected it and were nice about it.

So happy we did as this place definitely delivers. There is seriously like 8 tables in the dining room so expect a wait in line but trust me, it's worth it. We waited outside for about 25 minutes. They do take your order while in line so the wait for food (once you do get a table) is abbreviated. Out of the world pastas and the pistachio tiramisu is seriously out of this world. Inexpensive table wine rounds out a great meal. This is the type of place I love to go to. It's quaint, zero pretense and delivers on its food. A great find!
