This restaurant is located directly across from the Mercato Centrale and my hotel which made it convenient for dinner last week. It has indoor and enclosed outdoor seating which lets you people watch as you are dining. Being in Florence and knowing that one of Tuscany's most popular food entrees is Bistecca alla Florentina, I ordered that for my meal along with a contorni of fagioli all'uccelletto. In the US we would call this meal a steak with a side of beans. T-bone steak that is and this steak was very thick and cooked medium rare as suggested. I rarely eat steak but once in a while I indulge and this was the right time to do that. Yes it was a lot of meat and yes it was tasty. I almost finished it and the baked white beans were delicious too. This meal wasn't cheap because of the super large steak (Texas size) but it was an enjoyable experience that satisfied my red meat fix for the next few days at least. Also, the Chianti Classico wine paired well with this meal. My English speaking waiter was prompt and professional and I would be happy to return to try one of their pasta dishes.

Food was GREAT the servers were very kind they have BUTTER! 5 stars out of all the restraunts I have went to in Italy this one is the best speedy service the soup took like 5 minutes longer but overall it was super great!

Gluten free truffle pasta

This was my favorite find in Florence! Lots of gluten free options that were so delicious you didn't even know they were gluten free. My family was so happy we stopped here. Wine by the carafe is very cheap so be sure to order it that way to save serious money. It was great to eat in the piazza but have a glass covering to separate us. The service was fantastic and the price overall was not bad, if you want good food and service in Firenze- eat here !

What an introduction to Florence?!?! The food was everything I had imagined from the appetizers to entrees to the wine - mouth watering!

The BEST Ceasar Salad we've had and the Pear Ravioli.

The BEST Ceasar Salad we've had and the Pear Ravioli. Honestly the food is amazing but the owners/managers and staff make the experience. 5 stars all the way! If you're visiting Florence you should give this place a visit.

I forget the name of this dessert but it was so yummy.

This was one of our more memorable meals. The staff was lovely and so accommodating when we showed up without a reservation. The restaurant is also super charming inside. I was given a gluten free menu and from there we tried the pizza and the gnocchi. My husband also had a lovely gluten pasta dish. All delicious. What really wowed us were the desserts! Save room. The tiramisu was light and airy with just the right amount of coffee and sweetness. The ricotta filled cake tasted like an Italian hug. SO good. How are these gluten free?! Best of all- we were able to order and pay in a timely manner. Not always the case on Florence! Definitely something you learn to appreciate when traveling with a small child. Highly recommend. You can't go wrong here.

Nice atmosphere. Cozy, welcoming. Polite but slow service. Food is okay; the cod was a bit strong in odor but okay in flavor. The enterocote with arugula was fine. Salad was decent.

first off, they have a whole separate gluten free menu here which was amazing. got gluten free bread too ! started out with the french onion soup which was my favorite thing! also had the risotto which was very good! will definitely come back

Fettuccine Truffle

MUST GO TO!!!!! Perfect location, great service, great staff, and great food/drinks. I got the truffle fettuccine and it is to die for!!!! So delicious. My friends got the pear ravioli which was also a 10/10 and the cherry tomato gnocchi which was also pretty good. Definitely will be coming back.

Food/Drink: Came here for a spritz in the middle of the afternoon in an attempt to cool off. It wasn't the best spritz I had, the flavor tasted kind of artificial which was tipped off by the unnatural orange glow the drink was giving off. We came here because we wanted a spritz for cheap but what we got wasn't worth in the end. Price: For a small it was 3.50 euros, for a large it's 6 euros. We got the small. Atmosphere: Sat on the patio with small fans blowing. Wait staff was nice and friendly, attended to our needs right away! Tips: Pay at the register instead of waiting for them to come to you.

2.2 lb steak! I now have the meat sweats.

We found Trattoria Za Za, but could not get reservations. We showed up with 60 people waiting in line like us. The line moved quickly and we were seated in a glass enclosure with nice views. The menu is vast and the food flying out of the kitchen looked amazing. An appetizer of lightly battered squash blossoms was unique and enjoyed by all. Our first choice was the green peppercorns and Cognac cream covering a steak with rosemary potatoes. This was the best dishes of our 17 day excursion. The steak was perfect while the sauce was incredibly delicious. The steak with argula salad was our second choice. It was also savory and highly recommended. The setting here is great, amazing food, good value and a truly relaxed environment. If you are in Florence, please treat yourself to a fine meal at Trattoria Za Za for that special evening. To the establishment, great restaurant and we will return. Congrats on a beautiful evening.

Osteria del Cinghiale quickly popped up on my radar, so I asked the concierge at our hotel to make us a reservation. It's clearly a very popular spot--when we arrived, there was already a line up at the door. The Mr. had the sirloin strip steak with roasted potatoes. I had the beef filet with Chianti sauce as well as roasted potatoes. Our steaks were cooked to a perfect medium rare and the potatoes were so satisfying. We shared an order of grilled vegetables and had a carafe of the house red which we enjoyed. In fact, we loved everything about our experience. The food, the vibe, the service was all amazing! For dessert, we shared the tiramisu and the strawberries with mascarpone cream. The tiramisu was the best we've ever tasted anywhere. In our two week's stay in Italy, this was one of our favorite meals of the trip! To avoid disappointment, please make a reservation.

It went well with other pasta dishes like the Tagliatelle Con Ragù Di Coniglio or the Osso bucco, Pappardelle Al Ragù Di Cinghiale . . . of course with the Brunello & Chiati Classico The dining that night felt intimate yet party-like with nary a wiggle room. You don't get that often in the U.S. We never ever felt rushed despite the wait crowd out the door. Manager there was especially accomodating to us tourists. My 5 star rating has a lot to do with their boundless can-do spirit. A country house vibe rustic food with an outsized Italian howdy y'all. We will be back

I went to the internet for the best Florentine steak and Trattoria Mario consistently popped up as highly rated. I reached out to the restaurant via email to make a reservation for a Friday. I wanted to get the earliest reservation possible, so the restaurant reserved me for 7:30pm, which was when they open. I was advised to show up on time - even a 2 minute delay would make me miss my reservation. I can see why Trattoria Mario was strict on reservations. They open on the dot, and then a staff member calls out each reservation at 7:30pm like a roll call. Seemed to me that if you don't have a reservation then you're out of luck, because there was no waitlist and the restaurant small and space was limited. Service was great. Our waitress was highly attentive and got us in/out of the restaurant quickly, which was what we were going for. Food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the penne al ragu, salad misto, and a Florentine steak to share. The penne was perfectly al dente, and I liked the meat sauce. I did find the pasta sauce salty, but it could've came from the grated parmesan. The saltiness was not a fluke. The Florentine steak was just pure beef and a ton of salt... too much salt for my liking. I also decided that I'm not a fan of Florentine steak in general.

Back in the…read morestates, I always get strange reactions from the waiters when I order my steak "as rare as possible." That is what I was expecting in Italy. Am I the only one that thought steak florentine was supposed to be served this way? Maybe that's was my mistake but I thought that's how it was prepared in Florence. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those.

We started with a Cynar Spritz and Aperol Spritz, along with the complimentary bruschetta with chicken liver pâté, tomato and artichoke. We also tried several appetizers, including roasted eggplant, roasted peppers, artichokes and the spinach-and-ricotta dumplings. And the fried zucchini was out of this world -- absolutely one of the highlights of the meal! For dinner, I had the sliced steak with aglio e olio, accompanied by roasted potatoes, carrots and rosemary. The steak was delicious and perfectly prepared. Jim had the cacio e pepe, and Tom had the seafood pasta. All three entrées were excellent. The wine list is enormous, and the atmosphere is unlike anywhere else. Soldano Kunz d'Asburgo Lorena, from the Habsburg-Lorraine family behind La Giostra, is quite a personality. He moves around the restaurant greeting guests and has the presence of a rock star -- he really adds to the experience. We eat at a lot of restaurants in Florence, and La Giostra was a memorable one. I shared two pasta dishes with my daughter (the handmade Pappardelle with Maremman Wild Boar Ragu and the Carbonara). Both were very good but not the best we've had. Appetizers were good: Salad with pecorino cheese, oranges, pine nuts and walnuts. We ordered the Octopus appetizer as well. The Octopus was beautifully prepared and presented, but didn't have much flavor. They nailed the Espresso Martini! One of the best I've ever had! We ordered the huge Florentine steak to share between 4 of us and it was more than enough. Ultimately what knocked this review down to 3 stars and what was really disappointing was how they targeted us as tourists with the note at the bottom of the bill (see picture). It read "GRATUITY NOT INCLUDED" in all CAPITAL LETTERS. Also note it was the only thing in English on the entire bill. If it had been our first meal in Florence we might have fallen for this tactic, however it was our last. There's definitely some hostility towards tourists in Florence. Don't get me wrong, some of the people and restaurants we've visited have been very welcoming and friendly. However we recently saw tourist taxes go up significantly, and then you see tricks like this on the bill at La Giostra. This was the ONLY restaurant in Florence where we encountered this. Once jet fuel prices make flying a relic of the past I would argue that some Europeans who depend on tourists for their livelihood may not miss our presence but will certainly miss our spending. Save your money and go research the many other places to eat while in Florence.

While everything we ordered was delicious, nothing at Trattoria Giovanni felt like a dish you couldn't find elsewhere... and honestly, that's perfectly fine! It was traditional, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. The plate of cured meats and cheese was phenomenal, a great start to the meal.
