Even though we arrived well before our 8:30pm reservation, the staff was accommodating and seated us right away outside. Dining al fresco was lovely, though fair warning to future guests: there were quite a few mosquitoes buzzing around, so bring some bug spray! The menu is conveniently available in both Italian and English, and they even offer a dedicated vegan menu. While nothing on the menu is explicitly labeled gluten-free, our server was incredibly reassuring and confidence-inspiring, telling us he could modify virtually anything to be gluten-free. I decided to order off the vegan menu, and my friend and I shared the zucchini and avocado tartare. It was fresh, light, and really good! We also ordered a side of potatoes to share, and they were so delicious--seasoned and cooked to perfection. For my main course, I had the gluten-free spaghetti prepared with an onion cream and toasted hazelnuts. The pasta itself was cooked to a perfect al dente, but the sauce was unique and a bit unusual--definitely not my personal favorite, though it was an interesting culinary experience. Redemption came quickly with dessert as the strawberries and champagne were absolutely delicious and refreshing. To top it all off, the server surprised us with a complimentary round of Limoncello on the house, which easily turned out to be the best I have ever tasted. Waiter smiled at my attempt at Italian and helped me through the evening with both Italian and English switching. I'm a barbarian and appreciated their patience. Ordered (1) "Sardines in Saor" for my antipasti/appetizer and their take on (2) Duck cutlets for the primi/main course. ***Dessert is unpublished online, but they have Tiramisu, a cheesecake, biscotti con crema, and a (3) chocolate mousse with Limoncello crema on top (I had this). They also have a solid selection of coffees and dessert drinks. (1) If you're adventurous and like a hint of sweet and sour, definitely go for the Sardines in Saor. If you're typically not a big sardine fan, know that they aren't nearly as briney or fishy as they are in oil or salted. Because they were fried in a light flour batter and wrapped up with pine nuts & raisins within a sautéed onion (and refrigerated overnight) it was more mellow and sweet with that slight hint of sardine. Imagine a taste similar to a fried oyster with onion + fig jam. It's served chilled and it's good. Do it. (2) They adjusted the duck's ingredients to go with a creamy cheese/watermelon accompaniment instead of the menu's coffee puree. The sweet & savory combo was perfect for a summer night. It was unique and very good. (3) The milk chocolate mousse with limoncello cream was a nice dish. Small, ideal portion that gives you a taste of the sweet decadence without loading you up with sugar. Al Garzoti doesn't have any of these things, with their name only appearing inside on the bar. Service is nothing to write home about; our waiter who looked like a young Nick Jonas, minus the charm, barely interacted with us, but the food he brought us was wonderful! If you've already had some pizza while in Italy, then go with a calzone instead. They are large and a great value, too. Note the ingredients first, though; Italians do not like substitutions. I tried a pezzo di pizze with ham and that too, was great!

When we arrived around lunchtime, there was only one other table occupied and the restaurant was practically empty. That should have been a warning sign. We should have walked out right then. The food was not good at all. I ordered seafood spaghetti, but most of the mussels were nothing but empty shells with hardly any meat inside. They also charged us €6 for stale, dry, leftover bread that was placed on the table. And we were charged €73 in total for this poor-quality food and service. I honestly feel that we were completely ripped off. This is nothing more than a dishonest tourist-trap restaurant. I simply cannot understand how this place has received such high ratings. After my experience, I can only assume that some of the people who gave it such high ratings must have some connection to the restaurant. I strongly recommend staying away from this place.
