First, the space itself: spotlessly clean, with none of the black mold issues I've seen creeping into older spas in the Saratoga area. That alone is a relief. I was lucky enough to be assigned to Young, and she is in a class of her own. Small but telling detail: she uses a gel face pillow so you can lay face-down comfortably the entire session. If you've had enough massages, you know how much a folded towel starts to hurt after an hour. I asked if this was a house standard -- it's not, it's just her. That kind of thoughtfulness sets the tone for everything. Her scrub technique was the best I've experienced in 20 years. No exaggeration. Her massage hit every trigger point without me having to redirect her once -- pressure, focus, timing -- all dialed in perfectly. The front desk staff were equally impressive: warm, attentive, and they personally walk new guests through the space so you never feel lost. The one area with room to grow: the aftercare products in the drying area. Having visited spas in Palo Alto, and even facilities in South East Asia, I've come to appreciate a quality face lotion and hair cream post-scrub -- especially when you're not carrying your own. There are a variety of popular scrub massage options that I did not try this time around. The downstairs co-ed dry saunas were a bit underwhelming. The saunas were comfortably warm and had blankets to rest on. These saunas didn't seem to be for the purposes of detoxing since they were at a moderate temperature. I was so comfortable that I ended up falling asleep in multiple rooms lol. Bay Spa was the perfect introduction to Korean spas, and I will definitely be returning!

Unfortunately, the entire session was not what I expected. For most of the 90 minutes, she used her elbow to press very hard on my shoulders. It did not feel like a Swedish massage at all -- it felt overly aggressive and uncomfortable. Today I woke up with severe shoulder pain. My shoulders are extremely sore, and I honestly feel worse than before the massage. I came in to relax and receive a proper Swedish massage, but instead, the session consisted mostly of intense elbow pressure and stretching. It was very disappointing and not what I paid for. I will not be returning.

However, nearly every time we've come here, the checkout process is somehow botched - resembling closer to a bad DMV experience - and takes way too long to resolve. And this is for monthly paying members. The checkout process should be close to SEAMLESS for a standard massage that's included in the monthly membership. Please review your technology behind the counter and/or the training you give your staff on those systems. No one wants to wait around for 10-20 minutes after a relaxing massage just to checkout!
