A shame but the staff was by far some of the rudest people I have met. I am a beginner and started by purchasing some stuff on ebay and some stuff there. I have spent over $1k in the past month with gifts etc and no matter how polite and careful I am asking questions. I just left their store yesterday 12/21/22 after spending another $100 and when I asked some guy for advice, he couldn't be ruder. Overall, I love the store and I love supporting the small family business but with the poor treatment I have received when I walk in there to buy merchandise, ai am currently looking for a better place where people are kinder and more patient. It is a shame because they are very close to my house and the shop is wonderful but the staff, atrocious. They do treat some people with kindness as I observed but somehow, they simply don't like me when I go there. Oh well.... There are some other shops I can go to to get my train supplies and of course, there is always online. read more

Honestly I was so happy when I found out about this store. My boys had recently really started to get in to trains so I wanted to come here and pick out a set with them. They have to train sets on display for children to play with and they boys were having a blast. The owner came over and helped me get everything that I would need. He's super sweet and honestly i knew that it was going to be a little more expensive than finding it online but the store was so cute and I felt it was important to support mom and pop stores. So I didn't even check the prices online...Shame on me... after about a week I start setting up the table and the train set I bought. I was having a difficult time with the train so I go online to see if there were any videos of parents setting it up. That's when I saw it. The same train set I bought was 100 dollars cheaper online... wait let me say it louder for the people in the back ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS CHEAPER ONLINE!!!! I was flabbergasted. I thought maybe 20-30 dollars more but my kids had such a fun time in the store it's ok. I didn't even check all the other stuff I bought after that. Let me just be all the way real right now. I was surprised to see a store like this still in business. In this day and age of online shopping it is what it is. But now I know what. They have to overcharge a ridiculous amount to stay in business. Needless to say they would never get my business again. read more

Loved this place. I found some good discount on N scale trains here. Most of the items are priced at retail, but if you look closely you will find some discounts. As soon as I waked in I was greeted and i was helped to find the parts i needed. A good assortment of N scale products. This place also takes Amex. Bonus all the way! read more

I want to thank "The Train Shack" here in Burbank for their professionalism and assistance with a new "N" scale engine I ordered from them. It arrived as promised but unfortunately it fell off the table and broke. I took it back to them and they promptly fixed it and outfitted an old train car I had to work with my new engine. Our visit here was a pleasant surprise. We first went to a shop in Pasadena. They were grouchy and never even acknowledged our presence. The guy was actually yelling at a customer. We then drove to the Train Shack in Burbank. OMG! Everyone said hi. We were asked if we needed help. One of the guys got my wife a chair as I spent way more time there than intended. We were handed business cards. As I was shopping, the employees were laughing and talking to the customers. The selection was awesome and I bought some nice pieces for my collection. Sometimes hobbyists can be grumpy but not so at the Train Shack where staff went out of their way to offer help multiple times during our visit. We let our two year old play with the trains that they have out while my wife and I decided upon a purchase. There used to be a train store in Culver City but this is bigger and better and has much more stuff for kids. Unfortunately, the Lionel train sets that they have set up weren't running probably to save energy. However, there's plenty here to look at. Trains are an expensive hobby but I am so thankful that some stores like this still exist. read more

Really great selection of all model train scales. Customer service is top notch. I purchased 2 locomotives, and O scale and HO scale and they tested them out for me on the in-store track. I can't begin to tell you what this place has meant to my toddler. We live across the street and some weeks, we are here every day! They have a good inventory and nicely displayed, but man other than the lady working there the staff is rude. First visit I bought a cool ready to run set and had about a $600 day. Three visits later I was up to about a thousand $, but the feeling I got each visit was like my business didn't matter so I stopped going. I have since purchased 3 more train sets and and my accessories elsewhere. I went back a few days ago cause I wanted something quick. Walked in and got looked at but no acknowledgement. Walked around about 5 minutes and got no offers to help me and got answers like yup and nope to my questions. Rude, rude staff. I am so glad my other 3 ready to run sets were purchased from people who were much nicer. Won't be dropping any coinage at the Shack anymore. The guy and lady who worked there were very helpful and friendly. They really know the products. One can sense that they love the trains. They took all the time we needed to answer questions. I was looking for something from my childhood. They politely recommended some newer items that might be associated with fewer problems. They listened to me and we came to a happy agreement. They also do repairs, which is very helpful. If you are looking for older, used items you can inspect them and test them before you buy. It's easy to find and parking is not a problem. We read the negative reviews and braced ourselves for the worst. BOY WERE WE WRONG. The owner of the place was all over us with help and suggestions. He understood exactly what we were looking for and it wan't exactly train related, it was a science project which needed little guys and trees and stuff like that. His own son was working alongside of him and they were a delight. I KNOW my son was hooked on layouts and tiny objects which light up and that this science project is going to be one for the ages. I have done business with the Train Shack in Burbank for 17 years and have found them to be nothing, but helpful. They can order items that they don't have in stock very quickly, but this is rare since they have a great inventory. Their prices are competitive with the online stores, but the difference is that if you have a problem with an item you can go back there and deal with a knowledgable person. The atmosphere is friendly and if you don't know something they help you instead of trying to make you feel like an idiot. Whether you are new to the hobby or a veteran, they are a great resource! My first visit ever to The Train Shack although I've lived in the San Fernando Valley for nearly 60 years!) At any rate, I am just getting back into model railroading and wanted to do a quick recon of the store and also pick up a couple small items. The two guys working the front counter were helpful beyond imagination, asking me several times if I was finding the things I needed and if there was anything they could help me with. Throughout my visit, the two staffers both held up their end of a light hearted and informative conversation filled with detailed information and even a joke or two. The store's stock is vast and covers every scale from Z scale to O gauge. The selection of both HO and N scale equipment is impressive with every major and minor brand I know of not only represented, but well stocked. I didn't have the time to check out the selection of S scale & O gauge (I don't collect or model either of these) and since I didn't peruse that side of the store I didn't notice how much G scale equipment was available but I did spot a current LGB catalog so I know garden railroading is also represented! There are several working layouts in a variety of scales scattered around the room so I'm sure customers could check motive power for smoothness of running gear before purchase. The selection of track, structures and accessories was also quite good with most of the brand names stacked high on the shelves. Tools, scenic materials and scratch building supplies were also in strong attendance and to top it all off, I saw a variety of books, magazines and catalogs including Walthers (They are an authorized Walthers dealer so ANYTHING you need from that catalog can be special ordered). To sum things up it is a wonderful store. Clean, well lit, beautifully stocked and staffed by a knowledgeable and friendly crew. Just started an ho layout a year ago. Mindy jeff and todd are friendly and helpful. If they dont have something theyll get it and ship it to you. I live 45 miles away but its worth the drive -this is a real train store not a hobby shop with a few trains in the back corner. These people know their trains and let kids run their layout so parents can see if theyll like model railroading. I love stores like this where everybody loves their job and remembers your name.
