I started the program with no experience in coding. So I spent the first month doing python and…read morestatistics prework and audited classes on Saturdays and Sundays just to get myself familiarized with data science and machine learning concepts. The following month, I started fresh with a new cohort and finished the entire program with a portfolio of 6 projects. Following is roughly what my program, Mastering Applied Data Science, looked like. Each quarter was about 3 to 4 weeks long. First quarter we had classes which are lectures with in-class exercises. In the second quarter, we worked on projects and met once either on a Saturday or Sunday to present our projects. In the third quarter, we had lectures again. The fourth/last quarter was back to hands-on projects. A lot of information is covered in 12 to 16 weeks. Lecture classes are a lot of information with in-class mini assignments and exercises which help in understanding the material better and to get in the habit of typing code. People teaching the class are really knowledgeable and take the time to explain concepts and answer questions. They are really patient with answering questions and if people don't understand a concept they will happily explain the concept again. Because it is hard to digest all the information, a lot of things start to make sense during hands-on project weeks, at least that was my experience. We got datasets with some instructions and the following week, we presented our projects. This project-based learning was helpful for me in two ways. I had to explain my findings and thought process to others and answer any questions they had. This is a big part of Data Science because Data Scientists are expected to present and communicate what they learned from data and how can they address the business problem. Project days are also great because you get to learn from other people and what they did differently. I have learned and mastered a wide range of data science and machine learning skills because of the program, but I will list a few of those skills. Python, data analysis, cleaning, visualization. Regression and classification predictive modeling, train test split, Kfolds, cross-validation, different methods of grid-search, hyper-parameter tuning, sampling (Zia did an amazing job at explaining this concept, its importance, and how to effectively do sampling). Instructors are really helpful, knowledgeable and dedicated to teaching. I remember making office hour/ mentoring appointments with Kate to talk about the projects and she would give me constructive feedback to improve them and push me to do better. First half of the program is manageable and you can get relatively good learning and applying data science concepts. But second half of the program is overwhelming because the program also covers big data (spark), tensor flow, computer vision, recommender system, and natural language processing. These are more of specializations, except for maybe spark to work with big data. So each specialization would need weeks to months to get good at them. But if you don't understand any of these concepts they welcome you to repeat it without charging for it. You will get exposed to a lot of information and they will do their best to explain the concepts and answer any questions you have. You will learn a lot in the program if you invest time in it and take what they cover in the class and practice that outside of class, work on projects and work incredibly hard.

UPDATE-- After finishing the program I worked as an instructor for theDevMasters. I worked for two months, about six weekends, and was told I would be paid by Arshad, the owner. This was back in Feb/Mar and it is now July and I have not received a single dollar for my 40+ hours working for theDevMasters. DO NOT recommend to work for them. The owner Arshad has not been transparent and communicative as to why I have not received payment.

We previously had an okay experience with this center's summer camp and regular coding classes,…read morewhich is why we decided to enroll our child in their competition team. Unfortunately, the competition team program fell far short of expectations, and our experience with management has been extremely disappointing. The team structure and organization did not provide adequate support or growth opportunities for students. When we brought these serious concerns to management, no viable solutions, adjustments, or alternatives were offered, leaving us with no choice but to withdraw our child. To make matters worse, the financial handling and communication were completely unacceptable. The owner Julie was unprofessional throughout this entire process. After we reached out via email to resolve the matter amicably--requesting a reasonable partial refund or account credit--our communication was completely ignored. As an educational organization, customer trust, clear communication, and student growth should be top priorities. Unfortunately, our experience demonstrated a distinct lack of organization and poor accountability. While their basic classes may be fine, I would strongly advise parents to exercise caution before committing to their competition team, paying upfront fees, or relying on verbal promises here.

He was very thorough in explaining the program and the curriculum. He was kind and answered all my questions during the meeting while my son was in his evaluation session. When I emailed back saying my son didn't show interest, I was expecting a no reply or a short acknowledgement email. Instead he still gave a thorough assessment of how my son did and pointed out the areas where he did well. We're hoping my son changes his mind in the near future but for now I wanted to share the positive experience I had with Btree. I really think this is one of the top coding programs in our area.

We were able to customize our learning topics based on our interest and progress. Combined with a small class setting, it feels like having private coding instructions. Our instructor Matthew is very knowledgeable and patient with our young learner. I appreciate the weekly reports about the progress and challenges our student made during each class. Through Matthew, our kiddo learned not just coding, but math concepts and advanced logic. His teaching focuses on exchanging thoughts and ideas with students instead of one-way lecturing. He is transparent, pragmatic, and well-versed in all the coding languages and the programing community that we feel comfortable seeking and relying on his advice regarding areas of opportunity, trending topics, certifications, competitions, or summer camps. The email communication with the school and the owner Daniel is always timely and effective. It's a small and friendly community with like-minded people. Price is reasonable. I highly recommend!

It was my first time ever taking a class like this, and it was nice to see that the class comprised of about 50% first timers, and 50% returners.
