After completing DC Bike Week 2022 and shocking the heck out of myself...I had to come back and complete this much needed review. I found TrailWerks via Yelp on Friday as I was looking for someone to help me swap out my pedals on my trek. I called at 9:57 and spoke to a gentleman whom said they could take care of that issue in 5 min. I asked if they were busy and he said not at the moment...I made the 25 min drive and true to their word...Micha and Quinten took great care of me. I not only got my pedals fixed...they also swapped out a tire for me on the back wheel which I wouldn't have known was bad had it not been for their customer service. I was in and out in 17 min and still received ample input and suggestions about my bike...the store sits in a fairly new complex...there's all kinds of gadgets and bikes there for sale. Waited a week after initial purchase to give an assured review of this place. Worth it! Walked in randomly looking to purchase first hybrid, commuter, bike. Had minimal riding experience growing up, nothing major, or what to look for when purchasing. Micah Fontz was my associate from beginning to end. Helpful and patient throughout the process. He shared his experience in riding and knew his inventory - a key skill when in sales. In the end I purchased a Men's Sirrus Alloy Disc and purchased the hydraulic disc brakes. I don't know the major consensus on these brakes but I believe it was worth it. They are responsive and work. Riding this bicycle is smooth, fitting, and addicting. All though TrailWerks Cyclery is a mountain bike store their customer service and bike service is why people go here. Thank you for adding another rider to the streets. read more

Wife ordered a bike from them and didn't realize it was a only a seven speed. Specialized websites says they take returns with a restocking fee within 30 days but this store does not. I'm ok with paying the fee but this location won't take the bike back no matter what. Now my wife is stuck with a useless bike. read more

Finally found a bike shop I could call home, in Annapolis, right down from my place, score! Mike was great and made me as comfortable as I used to back out west. My 14yr old son and his friend asked me to take him to TrailWerks for a new bike and I was surprised to see the prices. I had hoped to see a selection of bikes in the $600-$1500 range. As it turned out my son choose the cheapest bike which was $1000.00 and it required a special pump, so another $42 bringing the total to over $1100 w/tax. I didn't have problem with that thinking we were getting a high-quality as these bikes are twice the price of the two other local bike dealers. Problem is that just today and after only riding this $1100 bike twice my son called from about from about a half mile from home saying one of the pedals fell off. After having to stop everything and attend to this I noticed that the threads appeared to be stripped! Really this after the second ride! Really disappointed!!! While each of the staff were nice abs polite and they did say that the next model up had better hardware, though that model was twice the price at over $2,000.00 for a bike for a 14yr old. I had NO idea that this bike would literally fall apart the first week! We also didn't get the email receipt, so we had to call to get the email straight which they did but their receipt doesn't state the year of the bike and while in the store I asked what year the bike was and we were told it was a 2022. Problem is that when we looked on the MFG's website they don't offer the color of out bike in the 2022 model year, it appears we have a 2021. Cool place with nice staff but junk bikes that fall apart the first week....not good and definitely not happy. read more

I generally don't take the time to write reviews; however, for Mike and TrailWerks I'll make an exception. As a little background, I'm an avid weekend rider from the DC area. Despite the great trail systems we have here, I found myself struggling to find a good bike shop. Sure there are plenty of bike shops around DC, but most if not all the shops specialized in road bikes. While these stores sold mountain bikes, they really didn't know how to service the bikes well. What I really wanted was a knowledgeable professional who really understood mountain bikes...how different they are from road bikes, and what type of service I should do on the bike. After talking with a lot of people on the trail AND getting a referral from another bike shop, I found TrailWerks. Mike and his team know their stuff. Not only are they suspension experts, but they are real riders. When you go in the shop you'll likely find Mike there sitting next to his red stumpy which is happily caked in mud. If Mike isn't there he is probably out racing. Not only will Trailwerks get you in and out (with your bike SAME DAY), but they'll take the time and care to make sure you really understand whats going on. ALSO to boot, Trailwerks is not out to take your money! There have been several times where I have broken something (crank, brake lever, etc.) and Trailwerks has such a good hookup with many of the manufactures they were generally able to get me patched up under warranty. Further, Trailwerks has a direct line into Specialized and when I wanted to upgrade to a new bike (pre-release), they were able to snag one of the first bikes in the country. Net net I will be coming back to this shop for sure. They are a little out of the way from DC, but the service you get pays dividends. Also they are only about 30 mins from Patasco so what my buddies and I do is stop by on our way to the trail systems. Highly recommend this shop to anyone interested in buying a bike, getting exceptional service, or interested in skills clinics. read more

Best bike shop around! The owner, Mike, is friendly, knowledgable and personable. The husband needed a fork overhaul, and I needed a new bike for riding around town. Mike and Trailwerks have been awesome. I finally found a shop where I can get work done on my bikes faster and better than I can do it - From the simplest repairs like brake and shifter adjustments to full suspension overhauls, Mike is an amazing mechanic who is still an avid cyclist - and you get all of this service and knowledge without the arrogance of some shops. Mike also practices what he preaches. He is a solid outdoorsman who spends time doing trail maintenance so that we can have trails for years to come. This selflessness makes him a good guy on top of being a solid bike expert. Solid experience at TrailWerks, which I highly recommend to anyone in the area. I went in with my mountain bike needing some adjustments to my rear derailleur and the front brakes. Mike personally looked at the bike and had it in working condition in a matter of minutes. He was happy to explain what he was doing, though I didn't want to bother him (he was very focused). I was worried that I would have to miss out on some good weather while I waited for the bike to be fixed, but the whole thing took maybe 25 minutes. He also fixed my roommate's bike and gave advice regarding future care. Pleasant, knowledgeable, professional. Sadly that seems to be harder to find these days. The prices are competitive--I don't know the local prices well enough to say exactly how they stack up, but I easily got my money's worth here. Thanks again! read more

This bike shop is excellent, I brought my bike here because the shop I purchased it from could not seam to get things fixed even after having the bike for nearly 4 weeks. Mke was able to get things tuned up and fixed while I waited. His goal is to get you back on the trail. We have since bought 3 bikes from trail werks and get all our service done there. I turned my friends from Harrisburg Pa on to trail werks because Mike is an expert on shocks and suspension, The owner is also very involved with advocating for and building local mountain bike trail A real asset to the mountain biking community. read more

A bike shop that feels like your friend's garage -- you know . . . that guy in your neighborhood growing up who know how to fix EVERYTHING . . . he pretty much lived in his garage tinkering with stuff, had great music on all the time and was always willing to help, or just have you hang out and BS all day while he tinkered with stuff? Yeah, that's pretty much what this place is, all grown up. This is a bike shop for people who know bikes, no doubt, but is also welcoming to those new to the sport, or who, like me, really just wanted to get their kid a bike. Mike knows more about bikes than anyone I know, and is generous with his time and advice. If you are new to the sport, interested in getting involved, or are constantly banging down backcountry trails, you really should check this place out. Several friends referred me to Trailwerks because of Mike and his team's expertise with suspension & mountain bikes. Having worked in the bike industry and shops in Asheville, NC in the past myself, I'm not easily impressed-especially since most area shops cater almost exclusively to neighborhood bikes & road bikes. Bought my first real mountain bike here several years ago and will only get it serviced here. This is above and beyond the best bike shop I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. I always go here first for any bike related things, whether buying parts, looking for advice, or new trails to ride. The service is fast; they tell you how long it will take and exactly what they are going to do. They have never tried to sell me anything I didn't need, and if they don't have the best part for you, they will tell you where to find it. They have new trails right out their back door to test bikes at the shop to make sure their customers are satisfied. All the employees are passionate and experienced bikers. They are also doing great things for the community with the development of the Bacon Ridge trail system and by hosting mountain biking clinics with professionals. I won't go anywhere else. read more
