Rio (the pinto) enjoying a beautiful day! We'll miss you, sweet girl!
    Gemma G.

When a horse is in your life more than 30 years, it's especially difficult when they pass away. Our beautiful pinto girl, Rio was one of those mares with a really big heart that would 'fill in' for even the most inexperienced person. These folks were completely professional, compassionate and responsive on a very difficult day, coming out right away and only charging an extra $50 for 'after hours' Sunday morning. Thank you for everything!

Loosing a horse is heartbraking, but the gentleman that helped with our mare today was very caring and compassionate.

The patio wasn't packed when I arrived, though the inside was busy. By the time I left, a line had started forming, so anything before noon is probably ideal. One practical note, they take Apple Pay. Also worth knowing, they don't serve alcohol. I ordered the chicken fried steak with the gravy on the side, and it was really good. The seasoning was spot on, the crust was crispy, and it didn't need any extra salt. The only downside was that about half of it was crust rather than meat, but I'd still order it again and would recommend it. Eggs over hard were cooked well. The hash browns weren't as crispy as requested, and the sourdough toast was good but light on butter. Service was friendly but rushed. Our waitress was nice and clearly busy. Once the food was dropped, there wasn't much follow up, which felt more like a staffing issue than anything else. Overall, this feels like a true local diner with better than average food, a calm atmosphere, and a really solid chicken fried steak. Not a loud or boozy brunch spot, but a good choice if you want something simple and reliable. I'd go back. Deserves 3.5 stars.

Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch - Nothing less than a spectacular sunset at the ranch.

Fun rustic getaway!…read more Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch offers a beautiful, nature-centric setting within easy reach of Phoenix. From the horseback riding to the kayaking and hiking, there are activities to fill numerous days. The launch site for those are all on the property, and there's a shuttle return for the kayaking, which keeps it simple and enjoyable. We also appreciated the close proximity of local recreation areas, for taking in views of the Salt River horses, and to Saguaro Lake (the Desert Belle wine cruise is great). The lodge itself is more of a four-star moment. It's understandable that the cabins are old (built for the construction of the Stewart Dam), but some general maintenance and a little TLC both inside and out would be helpful. For instance, a shower knob fell off in my hand, the curtain rods were crooked, a broken hook was on the door, the outdoor benches and chairs were dirty, and there were weeds and trash around the cabin perimeter. On the flip side, the staff is friendly, the main lodge offers homespun charm, the Bulldog rock formations are gorgeous, and the grounds in the main courtyard are an inviting place to indulge in the lodge's "easy living" motto. Beyond that, the food deserves its own special nod -- outstanding at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with rave reviews from all. That said, it would be nice to offer individual seating at dinner instead of the "single long table" ranch-style service. It can be awkward, or at least less relaxing, to sit across from strangers at each dinner each evening and make generic small talk. Overall, a wonderful getaway under starry skies!

The juice bar inside is a standout -- they squeeze fresh orange juice right in front of you, and the flavor is incredibly vibrant, refreshing, and naturally sweet. It tastes nothing like bottled juice and is absolutely worth the stop on its own. The bakery section is equally impressive. I picked up fresh conchas that were still warm to the touch, which immediately told me they had just come out of the oven. Soft, fluffy, and perfectly sweet, they tasted wonderfully homemade and authentic. Their food counter also deserves recognition. They offer a large selection of breakfast items including tacos, burritos, and tortas. I ordered the nopal and egg taco along with the chorizo and egg taco, and both were generously filled, packed with flavor, and surprisingly inexpensive for the quality and portion size. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. One thing I consistently appreciate about this location is how clean and organized the store is. The employees working in the food area are always kind, welcoming, and helpful, which makes the experience feel warm and inviting. The only downside is that the cashiers can come across as less friendly and not particularly welcoming, which slightly takes away from an otherwise excellent visit. Overall, this is a fantastic market for fresh food, authentic baked goods, and delicious prepared meals at very reasonable prices.

The ranch itself is a treasure--old and full of character, with history dating back to the 1940s. I loved wandering through the original buildings, admiring the authentic architecture and décor, and flipping through the photo albums filled with memories from decades past. The team here is absolutely outstanding. The cooks, Jesse and her husband Jeff, made every meal feel like it came straight from a family kitchen--comforting, delicious, and made with care. In the front office, Lisa was friendly, organized, and always ready with a smile or helpful suggestion. And the wranglers, Wendall and Ritch, were simply the best I've ever had the pleasure of riding with. Their knowledge, patience, and humor made every ride unforgettable, and Wendall's personality in particular was a highlight of the entire stay. Being tucked away in Wickenburg--the roping capital--meant that daily roping competitions were part of the experience, adding excitement and authentic cowboy culture to each day. The trail rides were scenic and peaceful, offering a perfect way to soak in the Southwest landscape. On top of everything else, the ranch doubles as a stunning venue for weddings and corporate events. With its history, charm, and warm-hearted staff, it's hard to imagine a more perfect setting. If you're looking for a genuine dude ranch experience filled with heart, history, and unforgettable people, this is the place.

Everything was so delicious: steak, salad, baked potatoes, corn, rolls, and there were plenty of drink options & hors d'ouvres before the meal. Funfetti & chocolate cupcakes, white cake, & carrot cake were the dessert options. There was dancing, cornhole to play, S'mores to make, and a log coaster branding station. This is a great place for weddings. Once it gets dark, it's hard to see to get out and it gets dusty but if you like a western theme, this is definitely your place!
