Fresh, modern take on seafood tapas.
I was walking back to Centro from an appointment, when I abruptly realized that it was nearly 3pm and I hadn't yet lunched. I wandered on the scorching deserted streets until I ran into this cute seafood place with shaded seating until two large parasols.
Btw, in case you too are confused by the name, the sign on the restaurant reads Luz de Mar by Tradevo.
It is a small restaurant, and although I would have preferred an air-conditioned seat indoors, I was seated outside. Thankfully, under the shade. At least it was quiet, and the balmy breeze helped. The service was even slower than the typically leisurely pace of Seville. (Perhaps due to the busy hour? Duly noted - don't fight for seats or service with locals at 3pm.) I wouldn't recommend this place if you're short on time.
The first thing you'll notice is that the menu (en español) is printed on the paper placemats. The second thing you'll notice is how many different types of preparations they have! I wish I had come with friend or two to try out more dishes. Instead I settled on ordering two half portions (media ración).
= Food =
Vieira salteada sobre tartaleta de patata, bacon y espinaca (€6.25): (Sautéed scallops over potato tartlets, bacon and spinach) Fresh scallops, albeit quite small, were tender and flavorful. The potato tartlet was very satisfying, but saturated in olive oil.
Tallarín de sepia con una boloñesa de sus tentáculos y ali oli de su tinta (€5.80): (Squid-tagliatelle with Bolognese of tentacles and squid ink aioli) I had no idea the "pasta" would be made from thin slices of squid. The chewy/crisp texture of the tentacle nibs dances playfully on your tongue tip. The creamy, garlicky sauce counters most of the fishy flavor without overpowering the seafood savoriness of the squid ink. A delight for seafood lovers!
= Verdict =
I highly recommend seafood lovers to try this place, and bring a friend to share plates. Many of the other dishes, like the fried fish, looked great as well, so I'll have to come back again to try them! read more
