Sanitation starts right at the door! They wipe down the carts outside and have someone to get one for you. Their frozen food section is delicious, especially their orange chicken and mochi. It is hard to get around due to the isles being slim, but that's not really something they can accommodate. I applaud them for their efforts in keeping the store COVID friendly! read more

It's taken me a couple of months to write this review but...There seems to be a common theme with this particular Trader Joe's. The female general manager there over the last year (Stephanie) is atrocious with her customer service. Quite possibly a sociopath. I mean, the way she handled my complaint and how she conversed with people over the phone, as I waited for her...a complete control freak! How does she expect repeat business when her tact is to manipulate and belittle the customer to their face? This particular Trader Joe's has gone down hill significantly over the last several years. A few things to keep in mind when you're shopping there: inconsistent and lazy employees, shelves that aren't stocked, awful parking area and condescending managers. C'mon Eugene, you can do so much better. I'm taking my shopping elsewhere, to the local privately owned stores. read more

This place is not safe!!! Went here for three things for my sister and the only safe practices were employee masks and checkout distancing. They dont limit customer intake, at such a small store THATS pretty crucial. Theres no flow for shoppers to follow so everybody's everywhere, again with so confined a space and narrow isles, pretty damn important AND theyre not requiring customers to wear facemasks to enter. Costco and Wall-mart require masks and theyre the size of warehouses with tons of space to keep apart from others. If you want to feel safe and feel the management wants you to feel safe as well, cross the street and go to Albertsons. read more

When I have an opportunity to be in the neighborhood nearby this Trader Joe's I always have to stop by. First, parking may be a pain and so is getting in and out of the Oakway center. But it is worth it for the things this place offers. The few staples I get here is the Carolina gold bbq sauce, chili lime chicken patties, and the frozen mac and cheese. It is always great to just look around and see all the different things they carry, especially the items that have international flavors. Sometimes they even offer samples, which hasn't disappointed. The only downside is that this place is not cheap, but you expect that because of the quality behind their products. If you have not been to a Trader Joe's I highly recommend going. read more

The staff are friendly and prices affordable. Why 3 stars then because everything is way too packaged. I much prefer shopping bulk bins for staples using my own mason jars and here isn't possible to do that. Even much of the produce is super packaged. Grower's Market, Sundance, Capella, and New Frontier are much better shopping experience in my opinion. read more

Good... but should be better. My favorite aspects of this Trader Joe's: - Short/quick lines - Excellent wine selection - Fair prices - Fresh salads to go - Great coffee selection - Presence of stores throughout United States *Pertaining to Trader Joes in general How Trader Joe's can improve: - Need to stay open later - Need a better selection of chocolates - specifically dark chocolate - Need bakery and juice and coffee bar - Need outdoor seating area with WiFi read more

Trader Joe's - Streetscape - Grocery Near Me - Eugene, Oregon

This is a very small Trader Joe's in the middle of a fairly big shopping center. It is right next to a huge bed, bath, and beyond. It is a typical Trader Joe's with all the same offerings but in smaller quantities. I love their cheese selection. They also have a huge selection of wine and beer that takes up about half the store. It is always super crowded but the cashier lines move super quick. read more

This isn't a very large Trader Joe's but it had everything I wanted. I love their fresh squeezed orange juice. All the produce looks fresh and the store is clean. I needed a restroom and they have three. The one I used was very clean and I appreciate that. Checkout is quick and of course the employees are always friendly and helpful. read more

Trader Joe's is the same everywhere: Some good stuff at good prices, some not-so-good stuff, still at good prices, and a little bit of stuff that's exceptionally good or bad. You can't beat Trader Joe's for prices on conventional eggs and milk that aren't totally suspect. Their basic meats are a bargain too, although a colleague recently observed that the way they're packaged can make it hard to see what you're getting. The produce is a hit-or-miss thing and they run out of common items pretty often, especially at the beginning of a weekend, but the quality is usually good and the prices fair. I also like that Trader Joe's has many items priced or packaged in small sizes, for single people and couples. This allows you to have a little of this, a little of that, and decreases waste. The fact that they manage to keep prices in line despite this practice is another credit. The packaged and frozen foods are a mixed blessing. On one hand, they have many unique and tasty goods, such as masala sauces, chocolate ganache, and chile-lime cashews. On the other, a lot of these prepared foods are as unhealthy as their more conventional counterparts. I try to stay out of the middle of the store and do most of my shopping on the edges where the healthier stuff lives. The frozen fish is a notable exception; the quality is decent as are the prices, and it's packaged to last a while in your freezer. Downsides? The Eugene store is the smallest, most crowded Trader Joe's I've ever seen, and as someone else pointed out, it's also in a lousy mall, in a congested part of town. I actually get claustrophobic in there. Plus, it's full of those California transplant people who populate the Ferry Street Bridge area. I don't have anything against them, exactly, but if I wanted to live in California, I'd move there, you know? It annoys me when some carefully preserved 55-going-on-25 platinum blonde runs into me with her cart because she's paying more attention to the tiny dog in her fashionable handbag than she is to where she's going, and when the same woman can't be bothered to apologize. That crap belongs back in SoCal, not here in Eugene where we at least take the time to acknowledge other people enough that we don't run them down. Take your groceries and your little dog and your ragtop Mercedes and your surgically-enhanced breasts and nose to I-5, point 'em all south, and step on it! Trader Joe's belongs to the same ownership group as Aldi AG, a German mega-conglomerate that is regarded as the Wal-Mart of the grocery biz by many in Europe. I'm not too thrilled with that, but unlike Wal-Mart, Trader Joe's seems to treat its people pretty well, and the folks there are friendly and helpful for the most part. Overall, Trader Joe's is good a chain store as you are likely to find for picking up some everyday grub. read more

What's with all the love for this place? I'd rather shop at Dari-Mart for my groceries. At least it's locally owned. WHEN will people start to see Trader Joe's as what it is? I'm not a flaming anarchist and believe that chains have their place in the market, but it makes be burning mad to know how TJs pulls the wool over peoples' eyes. I'm not sure how they manage to market themselves to people who normally shop locally or buy responsibly, but people need to wake up and see that Trader Joe's is not an independent little market like Kiva -- it's a corporate marketing ploy with products shipped in from 1000s of miles away and marked up -- not unlike Old Navy or Pier One Imports (marketed to those same folks, just steps away from the doorstep!) Putting their employees in whimsical button down shirts and pretending that they are a mom and pop place and sending out a newsletter every month does not make them good. I understand that they have some pre-packaged appetizers ready to pop in the oven when guests come over, but so does WinCo. Better yet, make those mashed potato poppers yourself instead of buying them from a frozen box from a factory. Trader Joe's is NOT environmentally friendly, is NOT local, and does NOT have a good selection for your everyday grocery shopping needs. It's the ultimate yuppie experience for people who cannot think on their own about their economic choices and the impact they make on the economy/planet. read more

I don't frequent TJ's too often; it's out of my neighborhood and there are much better places to pick up produce and basic pantry ingredients for non-prepared or packaged foods. A lot of the previous yelps touch on many dislikes on which I agree: the parking and traffic sucks; the problems with the store's small layout and crowds of shoppers; excessive packaging for produce and amount of food waste generated with their "you'll love it or we'll take it back" guarantee; and lack of local suppliers. On the plus side; they have good prices on and a good selection of dried fruits, cheeses, and nibble-y munchies; most of their prepared, packaged or frozen items aren't laden with chemies and preservatives, and display a wide range of cuisines and flavors. And some of their treats are dangerously addictive and may cause changes in rational consumer behavior. See below. What prompted me to write this review was a positive customer service experience that took place on a recent pilgrimage to TJ's in search of my favorite seasonal goodie only available during the holiday season. A TJ crew member told me last Saturday that my item was due to be delivered Sunday and would be out on the sales floor on Tuesday or Wednesday. Fast forward to Wednesday, I show up and can't find the item anywhere. I ask another crew member who smiled and admits that a woman just bought the last 4 boxes just moments ago. He offered to double check a truck that was being unloaded at that moment, but came back with an apology, took my name, number and asked how many boxes the store could hold for me, AND (this was the best part) a box of yummy sea-salt caramels as sort of a chocolate condolence package. I got a call today that my items are being held for me, and soon I will be looking excitedly at my hoard of 6 boxes of my TJ's obsession. I'm not going to divulge the name of the item that made me this crazy for fear that readers will go and try them, realize how friggin' delicious they are, and purchase the remaining boxes for themselves, creating a shortage pre-Christmas. read more

Trader Joe's is legendary, and this one is no exception. Everything you want from a Trader Joe's is here, and the layout is the same in every store. The reason I assigned 4 stars is because of the truly horrible parking available, or not available. Can't tell you how many times I had to wait for ANY parking spot to open up. The parking lot is just too small for all of the stores there. While this isn't a reflection of the store, I do think twice before going there because the parking is so limited. Then again, maybe most of the TJ customers ride there on bikes.... read more

I guess I'm not really sure what all of the fuss is about. People--you realize that basically all this place is, is a retail processed food store, right? Approximately every seven years I forget that I hate TJ's. This year the jig was up for me. Hubs and I visited today because we were enticed by the Fearless Flyer. Beef wellington bites? Yes! Those will be perfect for a quick dinner some night! Spanish dry cured ham? An excellent choice for the charcuterie this holiday hosting season. How about the idea of onion dip? Or fig butter? We'll be the hit of the party! Well a bag of organic blueberries, some cheese, a quintuplet of French mustard, and a whole entire hour later we finally realized that, other than said fruit and cheese, there were no other items we felt comfortable purchasing in the store! Many of the advertised items were from unknown origin, made with a butt-ton of irrelevant soy products, or were totally sold out. I dunno. This place feels like the TJ Maxx of food. Sure, we found a few things, but nothing was cheaper (or healthier) than what we could buy at any old grocery store in town. read more

Gosh, I just love Trader Joe's. They have the basics, and some fun unique stuff, and amazing fresh flowers and the prices are great. This location is conveniently located near other places I shop at and not too far from my house. So that's a plus! There are three downsides: 1. The parking. All Trader's seem to have this problem. Like seriously, can the company pick locations that have adequate parking? 2. The size of the store. It's just not compatible with how many people shop there. My anxiety flairs up every time I have to shop on a Sunday because it so crowded and impossible to get through the isles. You can't really browse, which sucks because there are so many cool seasonal things, but the stress of shopping when it's busy is a joy kill. 3. They run out of things. A lot. Corn tortillas. Maple water. Or they just stop carrying something for a while. It's really weird. And slightly irritating. Otherwise, Trader Joe's is perfect. I just need to go when it's not busy so I can actually enjoy my shopping experience instead of dread it. read more

Love: - The snack section! The affordable Belgian chocolate, all kinds of licorice and cookies, a regularly changing selection of sweet and salty treats, and uncommon chips. - The ready-made food. Trader Joe's is really the only place in town where you can get high quality freezer meals. My husband is obsessed with their Kim Chi rice, though he raves about all of their mixed frozen rice packets. They also have Indian food, mochi ice cream, a variety of frozen fish, pizzas, party snacks, and so on. - The fresh section of sandwiches and sushi. Easy place to stop for quick, healthy bite of food on the way to work. - The cheeses. Not as wide a selection as Market of Choice, but close, and they carry some things MoC doesn't have. - Samples: They're almost always sampling a food item and one of their innovative juice combinations - Kiwiberries. Despite the fact that we live in the only state in America where kiwiberries are grown, Trader Joe's is the only place that actually seems to sell them. I've never seen them anywhere else. They're highly seasonal though, appearing for a week or two in April and September usually. - Three buck chuck! The Charles Shaw wines, at only $2.99, have won numerous awards and pissed off vineyards everywhere for selling such good wine for so little money. Almost everyone I know goes to TJ's to buy cases of wine for parties, and with good reason! Cons: - Trader Joes is one of those faux-hippie stores. They pretend to be all organic, local, seasonal, with their design theme and recycled ad folder and 'local store, child friendly' atmosphere. And while I appreciate the effort, let's not forget that TJ's is far from local, and carries few or no locally sourced items in most places. - They're owned by the same people that own the MASSIVE German discount grocery store chain Aldi (one of those places Europeans like to shop, but never want to be seen at), some of the richest people in the world. I commend Aldi for their clever TJ's formula, a business model for which I have great admiration, and the company has certainly earned its success. As for me, I will continue shopping at TJs as long as they offer unique products. However, for anything I can buy locally (vegetables, bread, eggs, milk, etc) I will stick with the Saturday Market, MoC's local options, and other stores that source locally. read more

Let me start by saying that every town and city should have a Trader Joe's period. The staff at this store in particular is especially friendly and helpful. Nobody beats T. J's for great wine selection and low prices. They also have pre-made dishes that you can eat right on the spot which is great for travelers such as ourselves who are often without a kitchen. Kudos! read more

The Good: Decent stuff at decent prices The Bad: Your fave decent stuff isn't always in stock The Ugly: Store is waaay too small. A PDX TJ's I've been to was placed in a former grocery store, which really made for a bigger and better shopping experience. Congested Coburg doesn't help either. The staff: Always nice and helpful. Give them 5 stars The TJ management at corporate HQ: Suspect at best. Give them 2 stars. The wish: To see Trader Joe's expand to more cities in Oregon and to improve their overall level of performance. This chain has the potential to dominate a market instead of being a niche player. read more

The folks at Trader Joe's in Eugene have to be the happiest workers in the area. They are always friendly and smiling and their good nature seems really sincere instead of perfunctory and dismissive. Nice fresh produce and great bread too. read more

Trader Joe's shouldn't be my first grocery store of choice. It's at Oakway (and thus getting there means negotiating the awful traffic on Coburg), it's across town from my home, and it's not open as late as some of the other grocery stores, like WinCo, Albertson's and Safeway. The problem I've run into is that Albertson's and Safeway (and PC Market of Choice on Willamette), while aesthetically very pleasing stores, are also really freaking expensive. WinCo has some perks, like being dirt cheap, but you must deal with poor quality produce and meat, crowds 24-7, and bagging your own groceries. Wal-Mart is...well, Wal-Mart. Solution? Trader Joe's, as I discovered yesterday. I'm making a concerted effort to buy healthier, more natural food, and WinCo falls flat on that end. I'd heard that TJ is cheap, so I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable most of the organic produce was. The strawberries I bought were excellent, and I'm looking forward to grilling the corn I bought ($0.49/ear!) The organic milk was way too expensive (over $5/gallon), so for that I'll stick to WinCo. And TJ is not a place you'd go for household staples--Wal-Mart (yeah, I know), Target, or WinCo are still your best bets. But for everything else, TJ is probably the best game in town. I'll definitely be coming back. read more

I am a California transplant, now an Oregonian, and have been shopping at Traders for over 50 years. Never have I had such a negative experience as I did in the Eugene Trader Joe's. The service was non- existent, the store had way too many empty shelves, and my cashier never once acknowledged me. Not once. No hello, no thank you, no eye contact whatsoever. I wanted to offer her some Prozac for social anxiety. Seriously, I have certain addictions at Traders, so I must go there, but honestly, I dread it. I go once a month and stock up because just getting there from Springfield is a hassle, and the parking lot is like a bumper car ride. Come on guys. Get it together. read more

Store was great but the kid at checkout named Nolan thought I didn't hear him whisper to his co worker to ignore me and my gf while at checkout. Asked about our week and then blew us off. I am a fan of T-J's. I love their chocolate, flowers, and unusual products. Beware their produce. It is old (& expensive ) and I have often been disappointed. Beware that parking lot. I think it is the most dangerous in Eugene. It is too small, has bizarre angles, and people are in a hurry. This is also a great place to learn to let go of your attachments. Love a product for too long and it will be phased out. read more

Trader Joe's is what it is. It's not really bad but it's not great. There are some really good selections of wine and fun treats that you can't find elsewhere. The produce isn't too bad although I prefer to buy (and typically do buy) my produce elsewhere. My only true complaint I have is the people that shop here. They tend to have the worst manners like 'hogging' the aisle and ignoring the fact that they are blocking you from an area you are needing access to. Oh, and the parking can be a bit scary at times, but that's how the parking is at Oakway center in general. read more

I've been going to this Tj for years but haven't gone back since February when COVID-19 was announced. Yesterday, I decided it was time to pay a visit and to stock up on some TJ items. I went prepared with my mask on and made sure my hands were sanitized before stepping inside the store. What I discovered was astonishing considering Tj has put in place a safety measure and would only allow 35 customers into their store. Many customers were there without a mask on. Many didn't seem to mind or were aware of the social distancing guideline. Some would come up and stand real close to me or others. It was a game of dodge and hide and seek to move away from them. Why is TJ not taking one extra step forward and require all customers to wear a mask? Costco does it. They're not losing business as a result. It just makes sense to do what we can and some people need to be told to do the right, it seems. I hope TJ will implement a more rigid policy than the current one. The staff also seems a little stressed and overworked. They were as friendly and were edgy when I didn't know where to stand. read more

We shop at Trader Joe's (in San Francisco) every week - get as much as we can there. So when we were headed out to the Oregon Coast, we of course had to stock up in TJ's Eugene... for survival and stuff. And we discovered they have GINGEROOS in Eugene! (a small ginger cookie, trader joe brand, in the bag) We don't even get these in the bay area. And they're the BEST! We almost stopped by on our way back, but figured it was pretty pathetic because they're cookies and we simply don't NEED cookies. But I regret it now, becuase they are damn fine (and better for you than the Molasses Chews). But seriously, this TJ was as good as the ones we frequent regularly. They were out of a few things, but that's to be expected. I think they didn't carry some Morningstar product we were looking for (whatever), but carried a few things that were new to us (like the Gingeroo's and some kinds of bread). Parking, comparatively, was great and plentiful. Convieniently close to a bunch of other shops. read more

I do the majority of my grocery shopping at trader joes during the school year. Extremely friendly staff, and the place is clean and organized. Their produce is cheaper than safeway and albertsons, they have organic options, and they come in small packages. They have a great prepared foods section, especially the salads. Try the Roasted Squash, Quinoa, and Spinach salad. They also have the best salsa. It's called 'Salsa Especial' a little spicy but sooo good. They also have a bunch of good snacks and frozen foods. I really like these gluten free crunchy curls. They're lentil chips. A must try. I could go on and on about how many good products they carry, but you should just come in and check it out for yourself. The only drawback is that they don't carry every single thing you need in a grocery store. For example, my friend is a huge baker, and we needed some normal baking ingredient but they didn't carry it. read more

I'd like to preface this by saying that as a chain, I love Trader Joes. I lived two blocks away from their Oakland, CA store and bought food there all the time. The one in Eugene has been disappointing, however. The main problem is the quality of their meat and produce. The meat especially turns me off because that's a bigger health issue. Twice now I've bought meat there, which was supposedly fresh according to their label, only to take it home and find out it smelled terrible and rotten. One time was a frozen piece of fish, the second one was some grass fed beef (and I attempted to cook them the the day I brought them home, so it was not my fault they were rotten.) Now, I love their prices on pre-packaged products, but from now on I think I'll be steering totally clear of their fresh items. What a shame! read more

Everytime I shop at this store for other people for my local small bussiness 'Safefast Delivery' I have no problem finding a friendly employee ready to guide me to whatever item I can't find. I started shopping at Trader Joe's in California back in 1980s, so I am very familiar with their products, with their customer service (and at times lack thereof), but what drives me nuts is GASLIGHTING. 1. If items are returnable because the lids don't unscrew or open at all. One even wonders if the lid that was miscut ever sealed in the first place (one case of oil that wouldn't open no matter what, the lid was manufactured wrong basically it was stripped). My husband called in advance explaining the problem, he was told via phone, "Yes this happens with this item, we've had trouble with the lids" so I brought the item back. I was told that we didn't angle the bottle correctly to get the aluminum lid to come off (what???), he argued and I asked for another bottle (which should have just have been provided without all the drama since they know this item has had a history of manufacturing errors with the lids). THAT would have been the right thing to do. Instead, he disappears from view, claiming "he'll open "a new bottle for me", I get it home IT WAS THE SAME BOTTLE because the lid was IDENTICALLY unscrewable (to close properly) as the one I brought in! NOT what you do when you have a 'no hassle return policy!' 2. Items not on shelves with regularity either because they were featured by Trader Joe's flyers, or because of events in the town causing a "fluke" (their words) run on certain items. I am told to return to get these items because they don't have them right now, no guarantee when they exactly will. Just 'stop by'. 3. Lazy stockers, when asked to look for items the first words out of their mouths, is, "well, if its not on the shelves it must be a seasonal item we won't carry until (fall, spring, summer). When in fact the item had been moved to another area, basically having us look for the items ourselves to "find the item they are no longer carrying". Some are cheeses they regularly carry. They just don't look! At one point I had to ask a stocker to please go in the back, rather than stand at the area wondering where the item was. This isn't customer service, this is self-service. Look, I shop at Trader's because they carry items I can't get anywhere else (due to allergies, etc). If I have to call them each and every time before I leave the house, so be it, but they CAN do better! I thought these problems would have been solved when they remodeled, but instead, it seems worse. Parking hasn't gotten better that's for certain, their inability to know what they stock hasn't, and they simply have got to get into 'the customer service industry' or realize people will go elsewhere. read more

OH GOD WHY IS THIS PLACE SO TINY AND CROWDED?! this store will definitely induce a panic attack if you have any anxiety about crowds or small spaces. i came in around 4:30 on a thursday afternoon and this place was poppin! while there are only 5 aisles, each one was cram packed full of good and good-for-you food. i had to circle the store to find where the coffee was, but had no problems finding the coffee grinder. if you're unsure of where that is, just look up at the ceiling and a giant sign will tell you. decent wine selection, but i wish that the two buck chuck (aka Charles Shaw, the finest wine available only at trader joe's) wasn't a ridiculous $2.99 a bottle! srsly, tj's in eugene? i mean SRSLY? this is why i will never leave california. while the lines were long at all registers (and i think all were open), the wait in line was fairly short. my clerk was so amicable and even commented that he loved the candy bars i bought. that made me feel good about trying new things. =D good customer service, good products, but crowded store. read more

What I like: Terrific, friendly staff; food items you can't find elsewhere and/or can't find at these prices; cool and super cheap greeting cards; good prices on flowers; best 99-cent reusable shopping bags around. What I don't like: The experience of shopping at a small, crowded store with terrible parking. As soon as I walk into this store, my blood pressure starts to rise and I swear every other customer is mad and out to get me. It is so stressful!! Also don't like the perishable food that goes bad the day after you get it home, even when the sell-by date suggests it should be fine. My friends complain about this also. Bread is the worst. TJ's will gladly take back your moldy focaccia (have you noticed the big "Spoils" bins under every cash register?) but usually after surviving a visit here the last thing I want to do is go back the next day. Because of these two issues I hit TJ's about 3 or 4 times a year instead of twice a month as I would otherwise. read more
