Trader Joe's is a chain of specialty food stores originally from Monrovia, California. As of 2013 they now have 408 stores nationwide. One of these stores is in Cobble Hill in Brooklyn. You can find most of the day to day things that you need here, from cooking ingredients, frozen aperitif, nibbles, breakfast meals, fresh flowers and orchids, veggies and fruits. Most items are frequently replenished, but for something a little bit more exotic maybe look some place else. The one thing that really stands out here are the staff. They excel in customer service. Try to avoid coming here on weekends if you value your personal space. It can get very crowded anytime during the day. The queue can snake all the way to Atlantic Avenue. In fairness, the staff work tirelessly to ease the long line. My only disappointment from this store is that, they do not sell wine. You will have to go to the specialty Union Square branch to get some. read more

I thought it was silly the first time I wrote a review for a grocery store. But here I am doing it for the umpteenth time. 2018 = year of crazy, y'all. Back to my baby TJ's tho!!! Man, I love this place. For how busy it gets (which is like ALL the time), the employees here are so friendly and the checkout is efficient. It's clean as can be for a place unloading and breaking down boxes repeatedly. I think I come here for the people lol I've been here you're nervous going here only because there are a lot of people going inside the store at once . I liked it more when they allowed a certain amount in at a time , a lot more comfortable . What I will say is the staff is super kind and really nice. They always have the things I need in stock and that always makes me happy . So I would be cautious and just get in and get out . Writing a list also helps me get in and out. I love this store they have anything...and everything you need at a reasonable cost. It's cheaper than Whole Foods and a great place to buy anything from produce to spices.. and household needs. Staff is really efficient and lines move very quickly. Highly recommend shopping here. AVOID COMING ON WEEKENDS. I've seen it so bad to the point where people have waited outside the door in order for them to perform crowd control. Despite Trader Joe's unique quirkiness, there's a certain charm about them. I like to come in here once in a while to check out their products which I find interesting. Their products are something I normally don't find at my local supermarket so walking around Trader Joes is always a pleasurable one. Even though, I don't really buy much, I think most of their products are catered to those who prefer popping their food in the microwave or an oven for a quickie. Nonetheless, I still find their food tasteful because whenever I visit my friend's home, she always serves us Trader Joe's food for her parties. Aside from their food, the store is also located in a gorgeous landmark building that is breathtaking and beyond grandioso. Their ceiling and windows are absolutely HUGE and best of all, unlike the one in Union Square, this one has a bathroom!! If I may digress, I always feel having a bathroom is a major plus because it's the epitome of a store's respect for their customers and it makes the experience so much sweeter, especially when nature calls. read more

I am so glad to have a Trader Joes in Brooklyn! Staff is always friendly. I love the excellent prices, and customer service. CONS: -extremely long line -flowers always look like they are dying -avocados are always rotten (I know I could always bring them back. It's the company. Any hope of me not starving while living in the city is riding on this place. I never knew how great it truly was until I was hit with sticker shock at my grocery store across the street. These prices were insanely higher than what I was expecting and that's when Trader Joe's down the street came to rescue me. I went later in the day so there was lots of restocking being done, along with lots of items missing. That didn't stop me from filling up my two shopping bags with lots of goodies from apples to hummus to a tasty guacamole with pico de gallo on top. I wanted to try their Greek yogurt to see how it'd compare to the other brands and wasn't too impressed, but can be picky when it comes to items like that! Their frozen food selection was especially impressive and from Indian to Chinese, you can find something easy to whip up in no time. The lines moved fast and all of the workers were really friendly, always asking if there was anything that I needed and directing me to certain items. The people around me shopping were also relatively pleasant, making my multiple scans of the aisles easy to bare. I'll definitely be back here on a weekly basis to fill up on those staples at an affordable price. Although some items might skimp on quality, when comparing prices, TJs hits it out of the park. read more

In my opinion, there is no better place to get cheap and healthy groceries at such a great price! I can come in and get up to two weeks of groceries for under $100, which was just a dream before I found Trader Joe's. My only suggestion for people shopping here is look at the expiration dates because they don't seem to remove products from the shelves until the actual date.. doing this while inside the store will avoid any "oh shit"/ "dammit!" moments when you finally get home. They have a lenient return policy but lets face it, no one wants to have to face the crowd if they don't have to. As long as the long lines keep moving fast,and they keep selling mochi, I'll remain a shopper here :) read more

Best supermarket ever! I recently started shopping here and I can not beleive that it has taken me this long to step foot in this place. Why has no one put me on to Joes long ago? Shame on everyone. For those that do not know: 1. The majority of the items are organic and if you need gluten free, vegetarian, or Kosher selection you will find it. 2. Very inexpensive. I recently left with four or five huge bags for 80 bucks..try that at your local market. 3. Wide variety of unique and very tasty items not found elsewhere. 4. They do cool things such as raffles for free shopping, will bring your bags to your car if needed, and coolest of all...if you buy something you do not like simply return it..no questions asked. Tips: 1. (I vaguely recall coming in here once on a Saturday and it was a zoo as per usual.) Of course the fact that it was 11:30am on a Tuesday probably had something to do with it...I had an appointment in the area and decided to take advantage of the off hour to pick up some things. I also like the architecture here...since once upon a time it was a bank the ceilings are vaulted and it seems light and airy. I used to frequent this location a lot more often, but since the City Point location opened up, I come here only when I need to make a stop at another store along Atlantic Ave. The lines are usually a smidge longer and their produce section feels a little limited and cramped (though it might just be the low ceilings compared to the rest of the spacious store). Really a gem. I wish the Queens TJ's would come & take notes. They have a simple & efficient method to keep the lines moving and not blocking the aisles. The lines move fast and don't ruin anyone's patience. I love coming here because no matter how long the line is, I can get in and get out without any issues. They are well stocked and organized. This Trader Joe's is in a extremely high volume area just due to the businesses in the area & residents who live in the area. The first time I came here after 5pm on a week day, it looked like the day before thanksgiving in here. I could barely shop due to how crowded it was. I have co-workers who come in here all the time during their mid day lunch breaks, so I'm assuming maybe during the day it's not too bad. The other day I came in here after 5pm I was able to move comfortably through the aisle, but rather crowded as ever or not, the good thing is the line does move fast during check out, so don't let the wrap around line for check out discourage you. The person who rang me up, Fortune, was incredibly patient and kind. We packed up all the groceries and he walked me outside to my car to help me put the groceries in. Truly a great experience. I always love coming to this location and Trader Joe's in general. Truly a phenomenal place if you're looking for healthy food options. Their variety is impeccable with organic fruits and vegetables, no hormone steaks, frozen fish .... pretty much whatever you desire. This was the first Trader Joe's I shopped at since moving to Brooklyn from the west coast. Living in Brooklyn (or NYC in general) is by no means cheap, so it was nice to have a reliable place to shop for affordable groceries like I was used to back home. For first-timers, the check-out line here is long and can intimidating, but the staff here manages to shepherd customers in and out with reasonable efficiency. They are also very helpful, in spite of the store's shortcomings. The layout of this particular location is less than ideal. For starters, there's a divide between the produce/meat section and the rest of the store, which creates two chokepoints in a high-traffic area, one of these chokepoints being at the intersection of where the check-out line diverges and the sample station. When it gets busy, there is little distinction between the people in the checkout line and those actively shopping, even when there is an employee bearing a big "Line Stars Here" flag. I've also noticed that this location is occasionally understocked, and I've come here unable to find basic items such as fruits/vegetables on a few occasions. Although it is unfair, I can't judge this Trader Joe's solely on its merits as it won't escape comparison to my experiences at other Trader Joe's locations throughout the country. Ever since the newer location on Gold St. opened, I've been doing most of my shopping there, as it is more conveniently located by the subway and offers a more streamlined experience. If they one day draw my name in the reusable bag raffle and call me, I'll come back and tack on an extra star (or two) to this review. read more

Pretty cool TJ's location. Same amazing deals. Nice staff, but people at the register are a hit or miss. The building is nice. Large, nice and organized. The lines can get very long, but they move quickly. They are split in 3 and then 2. Not horrible if you go there right after you clock out. Make sure to grab a sample. Make sure to try the newest snacks. Don't grab dairy items before you are lined up. Must buy: frozen croissants, vodka sauce, coconut oil ($6!!), MOCHA CRUNCH CREMES :) or like just ALL THE SNACKS!!! read more

This Trader Joe's is near another Brooklyn location, but if you live in Brooklyn and have to go a little farther, go here instead. There is enough space to shop, for one. Also, even though the line seems long, there are usually many cashiers working, and the line goes quickly. I've noticed some recent issues with items out of stock, but this seems to be a nationwide problem at many different stores. Definitely annoying, however. One other minor criticism and the main reason I'm writing today after seeing an "incident": security staffing in the store probably needs to be increased. This store could stand to add a few more security staff members. Otherwise, this is a solid Trader Joe's and the best one in Brooklyn. read more

I hardly ever shop at Trader Joe's because it's not near my home and I don't feel like lugging groceries through the subway system. Also, every single time I step foot into a TJ's, it's always soooo crowded...I hate crowds and can't deal with mass amounts of people. I came here last week with my friend. She had to do some shopping for her grandmother. I figured I'd pick some items for myself. Since it was around 7pm, everyone and their mothers were in here shopping (after work rush). It was hard to wander the aisles to see what items they had. The checkout line was so long, people were forming a line in the juice/snack aisle and the end of the line was almost near the entrance of the store. Also, I think(I don't remember) but it was my first time shopping in this store, I accidentally cut some lady in line...she called me out, in a nice way...I embarrassedly got off the line...oops! I must say, the checkout line was long but it movedly quickly. I thought I was going to be standing there for a while. Being from Texas, the first time I walked into this Trader Joe's I was shocked...never in my life had I seen these kind of lines!!! The line pretty much starts at the checkout registers, and then wraps along the entire periphery of the store, where you end up back at the registers to checkout. You New Yorkers might be used to these kind of lines, but my first impression was that this was crazy! Good thing is that even though the lines seemed daunting at first, the staff here have it down to a a science and everything works like a well-oiled machine. There are multiple staff members who keep the line, and will lay the smack down if they sense anyone is trying to cut. Also if you're waiting in line and realize that you forget something, the staff will go out of the way to grab it for you. After a while I learned to buy everything I need in the middle of the store, and then do the rest of my shopping when I'm waiting in line :) Also there are like 20-30 cashiers working during busy hours so the line moves fast. Other than that, your typical Trader Joe's store, with all the products you're familiar with and love. Also the location is relatively close to Blue Bottle and Kung Fu Tea (both my guilty pleasures), which are on the way back to the subway stop so added bonus for me :) read more

It's really such a pleasure to shop here. Located at an optimal and easily accessible corner in Cobble Hill, this location puts you within arms reach of a lot of great stores. The interior of the building is enough to make you want to poke around in there, whether you're making a purchase or not. This Trader Joe's location was originally the first & oldest bank in Brooklyn. It's beautiful... just walk in & look up - you'll be thankful you did. Run like a well oiled machine, no matter how many people are shopping at any given time, you're bound to spend a short amount of time in line. They've got it down to a science. The lines in Trader Joe's are pretty long, but wait...they go buy so quickly. You feel so much joy when that red flag is waved and your turn is now to check your items out! So, when I enter this store, I immediately grab a hand basket. I have a love-hate relationship with the bread. It's so good yet because of the lack of preservatives, it spoils quickly. It feels like I wasted money but eh it's not that expensive. Walking around, you'll notice that there are so many different "types" of customers. The young college students who can't cook, boyfriend and girlfriend looking for quick dinners to eat at home, mothers looking for organic products for their annoying, crying babies, and the rest of us who just come here for the hell of it. Which category do I fall into? Oh that's right, young college student who has to save. I bought the Chile Verde chicken burritos. They were so good. I bought the Beef & Steak burritos which were so good. The beef tamales were tasty but I wouldn't eat it again. I love love love the cinnamon rolls. I have to buy the Roasted Garlic tomato salsa. These are must-haves in my honest opinion. I walk around and I look for other items. My goodness, the other customers are so slow. Trader Joe's occupies a former bank. There needs to be more organization because I don't believe that I should walk through two aisles just to purchase my items. That's plain ridiculous. This is the only location in Brooklyn (go-figure) and it's only 10 minutes away from home via the 4/5 trains. I do love this place but the organization of it...not good. The Black Forest bacon was very tasty. The hamburgers are too. I love the cinnamon rolls (my guilty pleasure). The Lamb Vindaloo looked tasty also. This is my favorite go to grocery store. This is one of the best of the Trader Joe's but as a result it is also often one of the more crowded. That said, they keep the checkout line moving and are never too busy to help you. And unlike the Trader Joe's on the Upper Westside, here they have complimentary coffee and tea samples while you shop! Because Trader Joe's uses the same successful formula at each of their stores, you should find shopping here enjoyable thanks to the quality of their products and because they don't "adjust" prices from store to store. If you never have been to a Trader Joe's, this is a good one to begin at because it is easy to maneuver and well stocked (even if they were out of 6 oz blueberries last night :-). If you drive here, parking can be a challenge but it is so close to so many subway and bus lines why would you...well I guess because getting your stuff home might be easier. read more

Could've sworn I reviewed TJ's four years ago, but I guess not. It's the Trader Joe's I go to the most because it's close to the gym and convenient to get home on the bus (B63 is just on the corner). The one thing I can't stand are the lines. Go after work and there will be lines. Go in the morning and there are lines. God help you if you go on a Sunday afternoon. I once saw the line to get in go out the door and around the corner. Ridiculousness. But hey, when you want cheap and delicious produce, ethnic frozen foods, yogurt, protein bars, nuts, pizza dough, and even sushi, you can't beat TJ's. Just carve out at least 10-15 minutes to wait on line (if you're lucky). They sell a ton of beer here and no wine (only the Union Sq location in NY does that because it's a separate store). People are are helpful and it looks like nobody hates their lives. So they have that going for them, which is nice. read more

I have never been to Trader Joe's until recently... I thought that it was going to be some overpriced produce piles like Whole Foods, but alas it is nothing of the sort. The assortment is clean and to the point, no multiple brands to dig through. You either buy it or you don't. Their private brand items are actually cheap, well cheap by NYC standards anyway. Bags of pre-cut and washed lettuce is only $1.99 and their frozen and prepared foods are reasonably priced as well. Many of their dishes are very creative and they also have free samples. My family mainly goes there for their chocolates and nuts. The bathroom at this location is not very private, you can literally see up to the sidewalk through the sheer curtains over the toilet. The curtains will not close all the way either, so you might want to use the restroom before coming here. They have made their way into Georgia, now if they can just extend into Florida, that would be great. I hope they plan on world domination. read more

Yes the lines can be long, and yes it really helps if you know exactly where everything you need is located so you can minimize movement around the store during busy times, and also strategize shopping while in line (key) during busy times. But even at its busiest, when the line is wrapped all the way around the store and back to the frozen food aisle, it moves pretty quickly. Today I was only in that line about 10 minutes before getting to the register even though I started back near the frozen pizzas. The prices are low, and with only one or two rare exceptions, the staff is amazingly friendly considering the chaos they work in. Love that I live only a short walk away, this is my go to place for groceries, despite the busyness.
