I was extremely upset by what I read on the comments on Yelp about this store. I have been coming here for years and was shocked after buying "Woodstock Crunchy Unsalted Almond Butter". I never bother to look at the "Use By Date" (which I will from now on) and I bought it several days ago thinking it would be fine. When I went to open the bottle the OIL from the container came out all over my counter and it was HARD as a BRICK! I was shocked! And, then when I checked the "Use By Date" it was "September, 2025 and it is almost the end of October, 2025! I was really upset! I cannot be used and is probably "Rancid" now! I will be calling the store on Thursday to speak with the Manager and from the looks of these other comments regarding "Expired Foods" with no money back, I will probably get the same answer. And, what was even more disturbing and shocking was the information about this poor kitty that was left in the basement not being taken care of! I am "HORRIFIED"! I cannot believe these people who I once had really liked could treat an animal this way. I hope and pray that the cat is in better condition now, but this was a year ago. This was horrible to read this. After this, I will probably never shop in this store again after so many years of shopping there. I am completely TURNED OFF by the management here. They should be reported to a government agency that handles these types of cases from "Outdated Foods" to neglect of an animal. read more

The place is good except for a slightly predatory individual who sometimes stalks men who shop in the store. Great place to shop. Friendly, good prices and fresh produce. I am a clean freak and like that staff is always cleaning. Many people say their prices are high but when you compare the prices with the coop or other stores in their category it is very reasonable. The store has a good vibe and I am happy that I live only two blocks away. I also shop at the coop up the street but can be a long wait. Given I support local businesses I always talk to and get to know the staff. The staff at this store is the friendliest in the neighborhood. They have my favorite yogurt - Cocojune which no other store has, including the coop. There is only one item they have that I wish they would upgrade. They have very expensive frozen fish. At the coop I can get wild caught fresh fish for less. If you have not been there go in and say hello! read more

FOLLOW UP of my previous Yelp Complaint Posted on December 1, 2021. I called the store to speak with the owner and was told that she does not speak with customers on the phone or in person. I think this is quite odd. Don't you? The owner's name is Mima, I was told that she only communicates by email. I had to call back several times to get the email from the employee who would not provide her first name and I was also told they did not know what the email was, either. I do not believe that for a millisecond. Then they hung up the phone on me. I called their Queens, NY location and was able to get the email address from a clerk at this location. I emailed Mima several times. The email seemed to be functional, or it would have bounced back as to me as an undeliverable email address. Nonetheless, I never received the courtesy of a response to my emails I also included my phone number, so we discuss the horrible treatment that I received by her male cashier. It goes to show if the employees get away with this type of egregious behavior the owner does not really seem to mind. I have read some other reviews about Frontier Market saying the store is clean and that the prices are good. However, this is not the issue. For that matter all health food stores are overpriced. There are also so many fruits, vegetables and numerous other foods that do not need to be purchased as organic. Google the dirty dozen and the clean 15 for the fruits and vegetables that should and do not need to be purchased as organic, etc. Since I will never return there, I have always shopped at Shoprite on Avenue I in Brooklyn. I have found all but 1 item that I thought only this store carried. Shoprite has all of these items for several dollars less. Do a little homework, ask the employees, take your time and browse all of the isles, speak with other customers who are shopping there. I was surprised to find so much I had never noticed there before and just assumed they did not carry. They even have an organic fruit and vegetable section. Do yourself a favor, do what I say. You will save money and the employees are closely supervised by Managers all around the store. You will rarely if at all ever encounter the experience that I did at Frontier Market on Cortelyou Road in Brooklyn. Again, this was a shocking and egregious experience. I would have forgotten it by now. However, if this is still on my mind: this tells you how horribly I was treated. And not receiving a response from the owner is what has added much insult to injury. read more

This store packs an extensive inventory of specialized food items, organic and green beauty items, bulk food, and more. If you're looking for an obscure root beer or d'artagnan meats this place is exactly for you. The lay out is neat and intuitive, well lit, and has enough space to meander given the cozy sized store. I've purchased groceries here a few times with good overall outcome where I find most items. My issues are that the produce is truly hit or miss. I bought a package of small English cucumbers and their shelf life lasted only 2-3 days, some apples were pretty bruised and could've not been shelved. Salad greens, bananas, and garlic on the other hand were fresh! Other products like deli items -- salami and cheese were also fresh. Prices are high here. Yes I know the target audience and the price points are just leaving into the edge of ridiculous. Higher than other green markets I've been to for medium to okay quality. If you do need scent free products like soap and cleansers, here's the best place to purchase them. The customer service isn't warm or kind but they are expedient to make up for a brisk demeanor. Go here if the family grocery stores and bodegas are missing cravings and gluttonous albeit hipster desires aren't able to be fulfilled. A solid 3.5 good experience with nothing necessarily superb but nothing outlandish to bombast them about. Honestly if customer service were just more congenial, the store would have a higher rating. I come here mainly to get my smoothie or kombucha fix but they have a lot to offer. I love that they offer discounts which is not something you usually find a lot in health store. If you're a fan of health bars they've got a ton to choose from. A much better selection than the co-op down the street, although the co-op wins in the fresh veggie department. My gripe is that someone always follows me around the store. I've never even thought about stealing and have spent many hundreds of dollars at this place as the variety is impressive for the size and location of the store and the prices are fair. But too many times I've found some lurking employee doing nothing behind me as I'm checking ingredients in an already crowded aisle. Moments later, different aisle, same annoying shadow. While nerdily reading ingredients and polishing my monocle might signify sketchiness to these guys, they should figure out how to be a little less obvious about suspecting their loyal customers. Hate to say it but I'd prefer security cameras. Next time this happens, I might just start following my shadow around. Turn around and stare, then wait for the guy to change lanes in awkward response, follow him to that lane, and just hover. See how he likes it. read more

Well, the staff is friendly and nice, and I didn't have a hard time finding anything I needed, and it's slightly cheaper than the Food Coop on Cortelyou, but the fruit section is really lacking. I've been there quite a few times and each time I've it hasn't changed/still sucks. I went yesterday looking for cherries and red navel oranges. No red navels. No cherries. Natural Frontier is really close to where I live so I will sometimes go there to pick up something I really need (I only do full grocery shopping at trader joe's because they are much more reasonable) The prices are high here, on par with the flatbush food coop a few blocks down, but this spot is a lot smaller. Although, I should mention some items can be found a little cheaper here, while others are more expensive - it just depends on what you want. It's hard to generalize one as being cheeper than the other. They have a lot of supplements/vitamins and an extensive snack and cereal section. They also carry most of your regular 'healthy brand' fare. That said, their fresh fruits/ veggies section is kind of sparse. At maximum, you'll have two cashiers (there are only two stations) but I've never had to wait excessively long to check out. The cashiers are polite but not overly friendly or anything. No one greets you or bids you farewell. The cashiers mostly talk to each other while ringing you up, and the stock people are running around keeping busy. They will try to help you though if you ask/need help and can be easily located. What I like most about this place is that they are open late (11pm) and they carry some of the more hard to find brands ( like soul kofa tofu chicken drumsticks that are supposedly only 105 calories a pack - they taste just like fried chicken, at least the outside does) and konjuku noodles, etc. I also like that in the past I've asked for an item they didn't stock/carry and when I came back they had started carrying it. They're really good about trying to order whatever people come in and ask for. This happened for the hail merry chocolate bars - so if you like those, you have me to thank ;) TIP: * WATCH OUT, sometimes they sell items that are past the expiration date * If you spend over a certain amount you get a 10% discount * They have a juice bar in the back that I've never tried. read more

EXCELLENT store for all of your needs. Cashiers and employees are so nice and willing to help - love them. I find that some of their items are either lower or higher priced vs. the food co-op, but you have to pay attention when shopping to really maximize the most ~bang~ for your buck. Only place that has my favorite chocolate - Chocolove "Pretzel in Milk Chocolate". The fridge by snacks has discounted drinks and I LOVE THEIR COCONUT WATER selection. Been going to Frontier for 10 years or so. Very good selection for a smallish store. Not that small though, just not supermarket size like Coop just up the block. If it were the size of Coop they would carry 10 times the amount of products Coop does. Price- My opinion on this is that if you want the best price for almost anything go online. If you want to learn see touch and feel or just straight up want it now Frontier is more than fine. I drive 15 minutes to get here, and I skip at least 5 other Health Food stores on my way. Lastly, employees are all polite, I have never seen any trace of anything less. Customer base is very wide in terms of color and race. People who are looking for a problem normally provoke them, its not fair to bash the employees like I've seen on a few posts. read more

Really, this store makes life worth living in this neighborhood. For a small store it has an amazingly diverse stock and there are many items here that you won't find in the nearby Flatbush Food Co-op. The staff is very, very nice. I used to live around the corner from Health Nuts on the Upper West Side. I miss that but Frontier helps assuage my homesickness to a large extent. This spot is ok...They do have milk(Almond) and banana chips cheaper than Flatbush Food Coop, that's up the block, so I go here sometimes to see what's on sale and for items I mentioned above. Their fruit section is not the best though. The fruits/veggies always look old to me...not very inviting. Also, the store seems small...2 ppl cannot pass in one isle facing each other... This is a great organic and natural market. I shop here 1-2x a week for organic produce and some groceries. It's pretty fresh, and they have a nice selection of organic oils and desserts! They have a juice bar in the back if you want some fresh green juice, but it's with a centrifugal machine, not a Norwalk press. They have a nice vitamins/supplement section and very unique handmade jewelry from Nepal. They are branching out into carrying some organic leggings and headbands. Very cute. This is my neighborhood organic/natural market of choice. Although the store has a medium-small footprint when compared to the Flatbush Food Co-op down the block, the space is used more effectively and the selection is actually far better. Prices for comparable products are lower than the nearest competitor, and about on par with Whole Foods. Staff has always been friendly enough for me, although I don't generally demand a high degree of handholding from supermarket employees. The staff is certainly more helpful, approachable, and polite than the miserables at the Flatbush Food Co-op. Most importantly, merchandise is easy enough to find, and the store is clean and presentable. Produce isn't typically the strongest, either in terms of selection or general condition, but is about on par with most smaller organic markets. On the whole, this is a well above-average market, and I'm glad to have it within walking distance. read more

I love Natural Frontier Market! First of all, I am black and I have never gotten the feeling that anyone in this place is racist and I go almost everyday, I live right around the corner. I noticed another poster commented on that, so just wanted to give my two cents!...The cashiers are always super nice and engaging and when I was hugely pregnant, two separate employees on two separate occasions helped me home with my bags, voluntarily. How often does that happen in NY? I do agree that the produce section at the coop is better BUT I would also say that stating the prices are competitive is a gross understatement! I've seen juice at the coop for $11 and the SAME juice was $6 at NF and I also saw an iron supplement that I buy that was $10 cheaper at NF than at the coop. It's almost laughable and makes me never want to shop at the coop for so clearly ripping people off. Also I find the atmosphere at NF friendlier and if there's something they don't have I have in the coop another place to look for it, but for the most part they have %80-90 of what I look for and the owner seems nice enough that if you asked him, he would get it for you. I feel great giving my money to this place, and we give them a lot, and feel blessed to have it around the corner! And the last few times I went they had great looking berries and cherries and I've never found their produce to be dirty or lacking in how it looks. And finally, it is a little small, but I wouldn't slight them for that. It's expensive to rent space these days and if anyone had been to the original coop before it moved into the big building, I would say this place is a lot bigger than that. The vitamin and nutritional section is run by a real professional in Dominick. His prices, specially for Gary Null products, are at a discount compared to Manhattan health stores. Love the Fever-Tree Elderberry Tonic Waters, the organic blue chips and varieties of oranges and tangerines. Breakfast cereals are a bargain, even though the box sizes have gotten smaller over time (not the store's fault of course). I find if there is an occasional pricing error at the check out counter they will correct the price. I returned the next day for a reimbursement after paying 10X the normal price for oat milk; I was in a hurry and did not double check the receipt. They do not operate any digital pricing reader during check out so watching the final tally is advised. One still-lingering pet peeve: please clean the red hand baskets of dust and those red-colored fruit/ vegetable stickers that stick to the bottom of the basket. read more

I just had the most terrible experience over the phone with a girl who picks up the phone at 1102 Cortelyou Rd Brooklyn store. I spent 155.00 dollars at this grocery store and accepted to have my 12 liters of water delivered at 12 noon the next day. Its now 2:30pm and nothing is here. I called this store 45minutes after 12 noon and told the young girl over the phone that I was not going to use this service anymore and that I wanted to talk to the manager. She told me that the manager does not come in till 2:00pm. I called back at 2 and i got the same girl on the phone. I reminded her who I was and I told her that I was going to make a complaint to the manager. She then decided to tell me that I had already called and that I had already said what I needed to say and that there was nothing she can do and that I was just going to have to wait until the delivery person got to my home. I asked her again if I could talk to the manager. And she said, he comes in at his own time. I got really upset with her for leading me on and giving me false information. She responded with insulting comments and horrible tone as if I deserved punishment. I hung up the phone and talked to a manager at another store. I then called the manager at 1424 3rd Ave New York at with much hesitation from that person who picked up that phone I finally got the manager. I told him what was going on and He said that he would call the manager at the store that I was having the issue with and will have him return my call. I never received a call from this manager. So then I thought if this manager was able to get a hold of the manager that I have been asking for this whole time, why wasnt the lady at the 1102 Cortelyou Rd Brooklyn store location saying that he wasn't in? Was she lying to me? So I called this store back and and the same girl who was talking horribly to me picked up the phone. I told her I just talked to the manager at another store and told her that he was able to get a hold of your manager and that I didnt appreciate you telling me that he was going to be in at 2 and then 3pm and then now I find out that he has been available this whole time. Then this girl on the phone sarcastically states that I am calling to much. I got upset and flipped out on this girl for talking to me this way. I didnt do anything to her to deserve this low form of customer service. With much embarrassment on my part I used profanity for I just couldn't handle the shock I was in from the way she handled this. I hung up the phone and called the other store back and asked for the manager who had told me that he was going to call that manager from the cortelyou store and have him call me back and when I got him on the phone I said, that I never got a call back from this manager that he said would call me. Then he decided to share with me that this manager was on his lunch break and that he would call me when his lunch was over. I politely ended this call. I was so upset at this point that I feel tossed around and lied to and treated horribly. At this point I had gotten a call from a member at the cortelyou grocery store. It wasnt the manager Id hoped for it was in fact the girl who had treated me horribly who was calling. She told me that because "I" was rude that she was not going to deliver my 12 liters of water to my home and that I could walk 3 miles back to her store and get my money back. I honestly thought that this couldn't get any worse. I told her that you had already made me wait 2 hours for my delivery which by the way its now 2:53 so thats going on 3 hours and now you are telling me that you are not going to deliver my goods and that you want to piss me off more by having me come back to your store to get my refund? I just hung up the phone and called the other manager back at the other store at 1424 3rd Ave New York and asked him if non managers are allowed to make those kinds of decisions. And he told me that they are not allowed to do that. So I ended that conversation and called this horrible lady back and told her what the "other manager told me, and that were just gonna have to see whats going to happen; and she sarcastically responded with a very rude OK!! and hung the phone up on me. In Conclusion: This was literally my first and last time at this grocery store. I am going to place a very harsh review on Yelp, Yahoo and Google. I am also going to tell my friends who are practicing vegans, fitness professionals, therapists and holistic practitioners to not waste there time with your store. AT this moment I am robbed of my money and my time. This matter better get resolved. Completely disgusting! read more

After giving this place years of chances, I've finally given up. Here's why: 1. Everything is overpriced, and on multiple occasions I've gotten home only to realize that the cashier charged me EVEN MORE than the already exorbitant marked price. I can only assume that they think no one will notice. Well, I noticed, and you all are a bunch of thieving bastards. 2. The store is poorly organized. I can never find what I'm looking for, and the few people working there are so busy chatting up white men that I can never get anyone to help me find anything. One time all three employees were helping one white man while the line to pay grew longer and longer. 3. Long before I stopped shopping here, I stopped buying bread because three times in a row I opened the package to find it already molding. 4. NO ONE LIKES UNSWEETENED CAROB CHIPS. It is an insult to vegans everywhere that you would carry those bags of rabbit turds and not actual vegan chocolate chips. 5. Why does this place even exist? If you want local, organic produce you can go to the Cortelyou greenmarket. If you want bulk dry goods, the Flatbush Food Coop is cheaper and has a better selection. The cashier I interacted with was rude. I handed her my credit card and after she swiped it she threw it down on the counter. I was offended that she did not hand it to me the same way that I handed it to her. She later put the receipt and pen I needed to sign it on the counter again instead of handing it to me. I felt that she did not want to touch me. I would hate to accuse someone of being racist when they are not esp. in this day and age but I can't remember being treated so rudely. Wow!! What a shocker! I may go back there and see if my experience is different but I doubt it will be. She never greeted me or said goodbye or thank you. I almost felt as if she wanted me out of the store asap. This is a great health food market. They have a fresh juice bar for bikers, joggers, or anyone who needs a boost in their day. The prices are the best in the area by far and though it is small I have never had trouble finding anything I need. Price wise, the only place that can beat this market is a Trader Joe's, but not by much. They have special deals if you are a student or spend more than $50. It is so easy to spend $50 and get their customer reward. Staff is great. Produce section is small, as others have said, but not terribly lacking; I found organic Plantains a few weeks back! Because this section is small the produce changes a little with the season, which is nice in its own right. Sometimes having everything available all the time is overwhelming, while picking from a smaller selection that changes can be inspiring. Lots of unique foods, including many special diet, gluten free, vegan, and local products. Frequent sales on many items too. This market is worth the trip, especially if you are in the area. read more

Man oh man! When I stumbled across this place I was SO happy. They have everything that's healthy and even carry sage and incense if you're into that kind of stuff. Cons: There fruits and vegetables aren't as fresh so I'd recommend going to the Fresh Coop nearby if you want. Also, if they run out of an item you have to make sure to request that they order more of it or else you'll be waiting awhile for the item to be back in stock.
