Fun store. Well merchandised items, so be careful or you will buy things you never would have otherwise given a second glance.

If I were to give this TJs less than 5 stars, it would be because it's so busy. Which, I would argue, Trader Joe's CAN fix...by building another location! Please please, pretty please!? :) In all seriousness, TJs really has done a fantastic job with this new location. As always, the prices are great. They also have a very large selection...I think the selection might even be better than the Atlanta location I usually stop in. The service was friendly and helpful, the music was jammin (I like to jam while I shop), and I was treated to FOUR different free samples. Who doesn't love free samples? #noshame The store was seriously packed when I visited on a Sunday afternoon. Maybe now that TJs sees how much we love them here, they really will expand the chain into other parts of Alabama! I joined a Facebook group two years ago to petition them to come here, so it's good to know that our voices were heard! read more

I always enjoy going to trader Joe's because they provide quality food at fair prices. I'm not saying great prices. We went on a road trip and got all of our breakfast muffins and such here. It was really cool to see that they had local landmarks in artform all over the tops of the walls. They always have some kind of sample at every Trader Joe's and this time it was the ring cake, oh yeah! They had a fine selection of grain,bread, crackers, snacks, and flowers.I think it would be hard to go to this or any Trader Joe's and do a weekly or monthly shopping visit. I didn't see much to create meal plans out of unless it was based on grains or snacks. They do have a selection of food you can do that with but it is expensive and thankfully quality. I really wanted to give this a five star rank as it was clean and friendly, but I couldn't because it was like a clean Aldi with Little fresh food ( meat, they had beautiful produce) to choose from. I've heard some good thing's about this grocery chain! I just happened to be in the Summit area so wanted to see it for myself.... This store is pretty small but I found everything I needed & looking for! Majority of the brands your not going to find at your local Publix or Wal-Mart. Most of the item's are Trader Joe brands so if your not familiar you might be a lost puppy in the store.... Pne of the things I like is the cashier takes your item's out of the buggy & pack them up in the old fashion paper bags! Double bagged and doubled handle! They have the same stuff that a typical Trader Joe's would have, so it was ok from that standpoint. The one thing that stood out to me was the customer service, the only person that asked if I needed anything was person at the cash register when I checked out. First visit to a Trader Joe's. Meh. Kiwis so soft they are probably rotten. Tiny space. Overpriced like all the health market franchises. They have some interesting things like the different types of pizza dough balls and the meats selection is different and looks pretty good but I'm very unimpressed overall. May come back for specific items but this place is not replacing Publix for all that much. read more

Trader Joe's - Looks nasty - Grocery Near Me - Birmingham, Alabama

I always go to Trader Joe's telling myself I just need a couple things and maybe a frozen meal or two. Then I get there and grab a cart because...let's be real. If possible, go on a weeknight so you'll have room to move around and take your time getting to know some of their goodies and what things pair well together (you'll thank yourself.) I made the mistake of going on a Sunday and mixing it up with the after church crowd, which can get a little stressful. Their frozen meals are better than food from some restaurants, especially if you add personal touches to them. I have yet to pick up something I wouldn't try again. They also have a great wine selection and very friendly staff. On that note look out for Sarah, who transferred to Birmingham from a store in South Carolina and can steer you toward the perfect thing in each section. My one wish is that TJ's sees how popular this store is and gets in on the redevelopment going on in downtown Birmingham so I have one less reason to get on 280. read more

I've been to traded joes in the summit a couple of times now. They do have great prices on wine and beer and a great return policy. However as for other savings and overall shopping experience I was left very underwhelmed. The shop is nice but there is limited product and a lack of ability to pick fruit and vegetables the majority of it comes in a package of some kind or another. Oh TJ's. You are getting closer and closer to me but far enough away to remain a "treat". Long ago in a land far far away, I worked for a floor company and would strip and wax Trader Joe's floors in San Diego (The Pacific Beach store. . ). I was smitten and cannot break the spell of this grocer and their high quality budget conscious goods. Always on my "Must Shop at. . ." list for every city, we stock up big on essential Trader Joe's treats like incredible craft beers, 3 buck Chuck, candy, the best snack anywhere, even frozen goods (carefully calculating the thaw rate vs. remaining drive time home). This is a nice store location! (Birmingham must have some ca$h; yikes!) This TJ location sits among some posh stores I didn't know existed anymore, . I thought I was in a restricted "Soccer Mom Audi Wagon Parking Only" section but fortunately no one towed my car. read more

I usually enjoy popping into this store, but today was not pleasant at all. After I had to correct a wrong price with the register attendant, he didn't take off the $9.99 he over charged me. I noticed the error after I got home. I called TJ and a nice guy Gabrielle said come back and they'll credit my card. I went back, another attendant credited me only $9.89, not the $9.99 plus tax they owed me. So I went back in, same clerk... I showed him where he got it wrong, he rang the bell and Gabrielle came over. I have laryngitis and he thought I was yelling or something because Blair told me to calm down. Really, I have laryngitis and it's hard to talk.. Thank goodness Gabrielle realized his people messed up and we got squared away. Also, I bought roses and got those home and 2 blooms were hanging by a thread.... Sorry TJ. You're not worth it.... read more

First of all, I am a fan of Trader Joe's, as a brand, simply because they stock reasonably priced food, which is delicious and fairly unique compared to many other grocers. Secondly, this particular Trader Joe's is pretty special. I have shopped here close to a dozen times, and I have always been greeted by employees with a smile and an offer of assistance. The people who work here seem to genuinely enjoy their job, and go out of their way to help their customers. I drive from over an hour away, at least once a month, just to stock up. It is always worth the trip. read more

I love Trader Joe's! My favorite grocery store since my college days in DC. This location is located in the Summit shopping mall area. The store is super clean and organized. Lots of parking spaces regardless of how busy the store is. When I moved down to Birmingham from DC, I missed my weekly Trader Joe's visit for groceries. I'm so glad that I get to shop here in Birmingham too. Trader Joe's offers a variety of quick meal options - microwaveable or quick oven-bake meals. When you have no time to cook from scratch, TJ's gives me a plenty of options. I love the fact that they carry foods that don't have artificial preservatives and colors. For health-conscious people who prefers not to overspend at Whole Foods, this is the place to go. I normally grab brioche bread, frozen Korean BBQ ribs, Thai curry, chocolate snacks, and pasta. Obviously, the options are endless. Best of all, their staffs are amazing. They are quick, knowledgeable, and professionally friendly. If you haven't shopped at Trader Joe's, check it out. read more

Way way way too much of a wait for that many employees to be there. Pitiful service on the multiple times I've been there. The company is great but this specific branch sucks. But keep in mind trader joes products are fine. I choose not to shop here anymore. I can walk around an entire store past a million employees, and not get a word said to me. Me and my girlfriend couldn't find an item and everyone was too stuck up to help us, we unfortunately left. read more

Could you put a grocery store in any worse location? First, it is on 280, which is basically a version of purgatory. Second, it is in the Summit shopping center, which is a worse level of purgatory. You're in danger of having a panic attack just trying to get to a close enough parking space that doesn't require you to walk from Hoover. The crowds...oh the crowds. I simply loathe feeling like I am being hurried along when I am trying to decide if I want a certain cereal bar, but this feeling is all over the store. It is a congested mess. All of these things take away from the friendly service, great prices, and quality food. I cannot make myself go here. I want to...I really do because I like their product; however, I just can't stand the experience. read more

I love this place. I didn't go when it first opened and the crowds were out the door, but, these days, I have found it to be busy but not crazy. The staff members are always friendly and willing to help you find an item. I love their flower selection and of course their $3 chardonnay (don't judge it 'til you've tried it). They have so many great selections of different types of meats, cheeses, and produce. I don't enjoy driving to the summit, but I find myself making a special Trader Joe's trip way more often than I could have anticipated. read more

Trader Joe's is my go-to grocery store even though it is enormously inconvenient to get to the Summit. I love the city-specific décor, the tongue-in-cheek branding, the international flavors, and, of course, the low prices! All employees are varying levels of awkward, but always super friendly and helpful. Produce is usually great, there is a nice flower selection, and some items are seasonal, as well as new items coming out all the time. Feeling wine-y? The price selection varies greatly! I usually get some $2 Chuck for cooking and drinking (hey, I'm young with no taste). Some of my other favorite items are the lemon elderflower canned sodas, the frozen Korean BBQ, the frozen Korean Bibimbap bowl (even better if you put a fresh fried egg on top :), sourdough and pumpernickel bread, goat cheese, fiber granola bars, roasted garlic hummus, ground turkey (less than $3/lb) pork gyoza, rice pilaf, jars of vodka cream spaghetti sauce, and many others! I love Trader Joe's and I have been going since before they came to Birmingham (shout out to the Buckhead Atlanta location) so I was super happy when they opened here. The staff is friendly but not as much as the other location I have been to. I love their produce and a lot of their frozen items have become staples in our house. If you like Indian food I highly recommend the chicken tikka microwave meal that comes with rice. It is as good as restaurant chicken tikka! read more

I can't say enough nice things about Trader Joe's. I'm so excited that they finally decided to grace Birmingham with their presence. You can find so many neat and interesting things. But you can't leave without a bottle of wine. Seriously, you can't leave without at least a bottle. They have some very nice, moderately priced wines that will excite your palate. I found an awesome Malbec for $5 that I liked so much I bought a case. The service is very good and it seems like the employees know what they are talking about when they make recommendations. I'm very excited there is a Trader Joes in Birmingham now. The store does not change their price based on location so when I lived in Manhattan this place was godsend and going here today made me very nostalgic but also very glad I wasn't carrying a week's worth of groceries through the subway and up 6 flights of stairs. This location 100% saves me so much time and money from making day trips to Atlanta. I went the morning they opened and I expected a crazy line with lots of waiting and tons of disorganization but what we got was the opposite. I parked very close to the store at 8:05 AM (they opened at 8AM). We were given leis and shopping carts as soon as we entered. We waited in line to enter the store for about 3 minutes (not bad at all). From the time that we entered the store to leaving we only spent 45 minutes getting everything we needed and includes the time we took to circle the store twice and stand in line to checkout. For those other Trader Joes aficionados out there, this one has wine and beer and is fully stocked with all the goods. We started at the opposite end of the store (wine section) shopping and made our way through the entire store and found everything we needed. Everyone was incredibly helpful and we got a free reusable bag and fresh flowers and tons of help carrying everything to the car. If you like fresh and organic grocery and to try new products I highly recommend Trader Joes. Make sure to check out the Frequent Flyer catalogue before you go in to the store. I was told the store was still getting products in so if you didn't find your favorite item they were working on making sure it was there in a few weeks. Ok ok I know Trader Joes. I grew up in SoCal where Trader Joes is synonymous with 2 buck Chuck and fresh cheap produce.. Trader Joes at the Summit doesn't disappoint there. Although the store is a bit small and can get busy it has all the stables you come to enjoy from a place you can get pumpkin ravioli sand whole cut flowers and a bottle of wine for $7! read more

I was happy with the layout and the price of this Trader Joes compared to others up north. The cashiers were friendly and the selection of frozen and fresh food suited my kids as well as my appetite. I don't get it. Honestly I was excited to get a Trader Joe's since I had only been to one other. This is the same as that one. It is a trendy thing. They have all the stuff like a whole Foods or Fresh Market but they also have the high prices. Nothing is wrong with this place but I wont go back as long as there is a Sprouts in the area. OK, so I may be taking my life in my hands by standing out as probably the only person in town who isn't ecstatic over this place, but my feeling is just "meh." I feel like they are WAY overpriced and really, not any different than Whole Foods, Earth Fare or Sprouts. Sure, they have all their own brand of a bunch of stuff, but so does WalMart. There's not a huge selection of stuff, though some of it is novel. Overall, not really impressed. The service is OK...the guy back at the coffee sample stand was pumping out samples as fast as he could, but the cashiers were not overly friendly and the aisles are a little cramped. read more

I am so glad that we finally got a Trader Joe's here in Birmingham (long overdue!) That being said, I absolutely hate where it is. I don't know why on earth they decided to put a grocery store in a highly congested retail shopping center. I tend to stay away from 280 altogether, but would have rather it been a little further down the road in a small strip mall or free standing building if they wanted it to be in that part of town. Only one buggy return can be found, and watch where you park...because you might find yourself facing an impassable median when you have already made it half the way back to your car. The store itself is great. We love the wine selection, all of which are well priced, including the "two buck chuck" Charles Shaw wines for $2,99 a bottle (which are actually very good!) The produce and dairy sections are what I usually hit up, because the prices are really good. They have a good selection of organic meats as well. I am hoping that another store will be built in the near future (in a more desirable location!!) Only thing holding back from a 5 star rating is the location. read more
