They still carry a lot of fresh produce and chocolate and can goods and frozen foods. Their seafood section was limited to fresh salmon and white fish fillets not much other types of seafood variety. Visited this store several times on recent visit to Bend. Its small (like most TJ) and VERY busy every time. But as queues get bigger staff rush to fill the checkstands, so its like a 'quickstop grocery'. Prices are relatively high (even though its tough to compare since most items aren't found at mainstream grocers). I just have to commend the staff here for being so kind! My checkout experience was so great and I really regret not getting the names of the two guys who helped me. For context, I'm a new mom who hadn't slept for three days and was super anxious about going out with my 8 year old and 4 month old, but we needed some groceries. My 4 month old screams whenever we go grocery shopping so I was trying to get in and out as fast as possible. At checkout the cashier was so friendly and called to get me a cart to carry my bag since it was heavy and all I had was a stroller. The guy who brought the cart helped push it to my car and load it up for me and I know it sounds minor, but those small acts of kindness and their friendliness really made my day because to be real, it's hard shopping alone with multiple kiddos! A visit to Trader Joe's is always fun for me. It's funny that when we lived in Las Vegas, I'd drive 20mins just to visit my favorite TJ location that's in the same area as Nothing Bundt Cake but now that we live just 5mins away from the Bend location, I've only been here twice in 6 months. Don't get me wrong, this TJ is as good as my favorite branch. I called and asked if our Assisted Living Facility was able to get some flowers donated for our residents who have gone through so much with COVID. It's Trader Joe's. You get 3 stars for existing. I'm traveling through Bend and stopped in for my weekly essentials and favorites. Unfortunately this location was a disappointment. Rude cashier, smaller store with less stock, busy parking lot with self centered drivers all make for no more than 3 stars. It's a Thursday at 3:30pm. The store itself was not overly busy. I noticed a measly bread section, I mean not only were they running low or out on several bread choices, but they carried significantly less choices overall. The ready-made meal selection was paltry too. When checking out the cashier was distracted and barely acknowledged anything I said. Happy that I got most of what I wanted and got out! read more

"Tis the season to be jolly..." sang the choir on the sound system at the Bend Trader Joe's when we shopped there today. And it occurred to me that for the crew that work at Bend's Trader Joe's, every season is the season to provide jolly good customer service. Which is why, although I would give TJ's four stars overall as concept stores, this one gets five BIG stars from me. The people who work there are always so helpful, so friendly and so upbeat for premium customer service that it makes me want to sing out loud myself while I shop. Speaking of which, one of the guys that works there has a wicked good voice, and is known to sing as he stocks the shelves. He does a stellar rendition of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" . Not to mention he's as cute as a bug's ear. Ooops...did I just date myself with that compliment? Then again, I know Jason Mraz's music. So maybe not THAT dated. But I digress. While I"m not the super fan of TJ's stores overall that some are, there are some things that TJ's offers that can't be found elsewhere or can't be beat for the price. Chariot Red wine (when it comes in once a year), great black olive tapenade made with real olive oil, California goat cheese blended with honey, gluten free granola with dried fruit and nuts, the freshest baby arugula, flatbread frozen pizza with the thinnest crust and yummiest roasted mushrooms, TJ's own brand of vanilla ice cream and...well, the list goes on for those kinds of things. But it really is the people, from stocking shelves and asking "what can I help you find", to providing food samples at the kitchen counter in the back (maybe the most popular counter in the store) to check-out and asking "did you find everything you were looking for" that make the difference. And here's the almost unbelieveable customer satisfaction deal - if for any reason you do not like something you may return it for a refund. Not that we've ever done that, but talk about confidence in your store's products and putting customer loyalty first! Regardless, whatever it is they're putting in the crew's coffee in the break-room ought to be passed around everywhere if it creates such happy people who translate customer service into customer loyalty. I just wanted to come on here and say that every single time I am at this Trader Joe's, I always leave with a smile on my face. I'm not even kidding, but every individual that has rang me up has been so genuinely nice. Whoever is doing the hiring, you're doing a fantastic job with your awesome employees. I'll be honest, I've never really understood the magic of Trader Joe's and I've been trying to figure it out for almost 20 years. People rave about Trader Joe's, I hear mostly good things from everyone I know that shops there. Some are even able to do all of their shopping there. I can't do all my shopping there. I do go there for coffee, pizza dough, granola bars and dried mangoes. I know, eclectic selection of items, but all of these are great and at a great price. The prices are good here, I can't dispute that. They have a pretty amazing condiment selection, olive oil, vinegars, mustards, jams, etc. and I've tried a few over the years. The staff is always helpful and available. They have a very limited warehouse space, so they get frequent (fresh) deliveries and staff is alway stocking the shelves. read more

Love this store. They bend over backwards at excellent customer service. We went in on our 10 year anniversary and they asked us what we were up to and we told them and next thing we know they brought us a big beautiful bouquet. Another time we had a flood in our home and told them we were there to get ore made food for the hotel room and they ran back and bright us tons of disposable spoons and forks and napkins. Having just moved to Bend it's nice to know there is a Trader Joe's nearby - it's a pillar in my life and keeping one thing the same is nice amidst all of life changes. This store is about the same size as all the ones in Portland and carry most of the same items (except for the canned clams for some reason.) TJ's is located in the uber-shopping complex just north of town and situated in the triangle between Hwy 20 and 97. I don't think I really need to pontificate about TJ's food and supplies - affordable luxury items that are less than Whole Foods or Market of Choice. The staff is always friendly and a nice dispersion of ages, from the typical Bendite - tanned twenty-something who's probably a rafting guide to the white-haired sexagenarian who should be retired but is too bored to stay at home reading/golfing all week long. read more

I always feel like the poor cousin when I have the opportunity to shop at a Trader Joe's because my town does not have one. I have been assured a number of times that one will not be coming to Yakima, WA any time soon. The TJ in Bend is always a must stop when we are in town. My go-to items to stock up on are Vegetarian Tamales, pizza dough, pizza sauce, Ginger, Almond, and Cashew granola cereal, olive tapenade, Thai Sweet Chile Sauce, Ginger chews, and I always hope they will surprise me by having the TJ Steak Sauce. Oh, and the Toscano black pepper cheese is heavenly. This is also my go-to list when a Kirkland friend is coming to town and asks if she can bring me anything from Trader Joe's. Parking in Bend is good, staff is always friendly, and I love the bags. TJ bags are sturdy and I always keep them handy to use wherever I shop. read more

I didn't think I'd find such a spread among Trader Joe's and how they are, but it really does matter where you go. We stopped here on our way back to California, since I have a tendancy to get a little fussy about the jam packed location in Alameda. I loved the space in this TJ's and maybe it is like eating out when your starving, its all fantastic. I just don't care for the Trader Joe's in the Bay area and this one seemed like it had more and way more space to move around. It was clean and well stocked when we went in on a Sunday afternoon. Speaking of Traitor Joe's... it would be great if TJ's Customers would all ask TJ's Bend why they are selling a gallon of organic whole milk for $1.00 more than Safeway's store brand and Whole Foods store brand. TJ's price was $5.99. TJ's price as of March was: $6.49. Safeway & WF price: $5.49 PRICE GOUGING. TOTALLY! I asked the local store in Bend and they had no comment. I was advised to call Corporate. I called Corporate and left a message. My call was never returned. I started emailing them. After sending several emails, I FINALLY GOT A RESPONSE: "We appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention. We only increase our prices when our costs increase. We evaluate our cost increases on a product by product basis. Unfortunately, with everything going on in the world, costs are increasing for a number of products. There are a lot of factors at play, including labor costs for manufacturers, but the cost of raw materials. Especially with the increased demand for corn and wheat, which are two of the most common ingredients used in the world. Price increases are not just based on the costs of gas and there has been a shortage of organic milk overall causing this increase. We do not raise our prices unless our costs increase, period. We are dedicated to being as efficient as possible, and negotiating strongly on behalf of our customers, because we do not like to raise prices. We are also dedicated to making sure we have great prices across the board, especially when compared to all other retailers. We never raise prices to take advantage of popular items...never. We can also assure you that when our costs go down we will extend these savings on to our customers." SO I WROTE BACK: "Your response about the price of milk makes no sense as milk at TJs is $1.00 more than Whole Foods and Safeway. Additionally the USDA has said that milk prices for the consumer should be down in 2015. I feel that you did not research the milk prices in Bend and that your response - as it mentions things I didn't - was a form letter response. I am very disappointed - I expected more from you. I feel like there is some PRICE GOUGING going on and that the customer service regarding same has been very poor." TO WHICH THERE HAS BEEN NO RESPONSE! read more

I think they must pump extra oxygen into TJ's or something, because I always feel happy when I am there. The worker bee's and everyone else seem happy too. Or maybe it's just that we are surrounded by so much yummy and cheap food. And there are always people giving out samples in case you are hungry. Yeah, that might be it. But it might be the extra oxygen, too. Anyhoo, I wouldn't usually go to an eagerly anticipated store like Trader Joe's on opening day but heck, I had the day off anyways so why not? Yes, it was crowded. But we picked up some good stuff (some needed, and some just because) and for the most part everyone at the store was friendly and happy. And who cares if you have to wait in a long line, when you are grooving to Jimmy Buffett tunes and surrounded by other super-happy people? Not me! I love their mini gingersnaps and dark-chocolate-dipped "Joe Joe's". We used to stock up on those when visiting friends in Portland or family in Eugene... it might be a little dangerous now that I can just drive to the north end of town for them! read more

Okay, I'm probably going to be hung out to dry for this but.... What is all the hype about Trader Joes? I'm sorry fellow Yelpers, but I just don't get it. I'd first heard about Trader Joes from my daughter who was visiting from out of town and said, "I wish they had a Trader Joes up here, Daddy." Then she proceeded to go on and on about how wonderful and unique they are. All of this from a 12 year old. I just attributed it to her MOTHER. (courtesy laugh, okay?) Anyway, lo and behold we get a Trader Joes in Bend. Of course, I remembered the conversation with my daughter and followed all the hype in the news along with friends and co-workers who were all in a dither about "TJ's opening soon". I thought the Messiah himself was going to be at the grand opening. So we went. Not to the grand opening....brave those crowds? Nope, we meandered in there a week or two after the hoopla had settled down. Nice store. Not as big as your typical Safeway, Albertsons...or even the Food 4 Less right there in the same parking lot. Still, I knew what to "expect" for quality, uniqueness, freshness, organic and specialty items. (I'd read the reviews and listened to my friends). And yes, I suppose TJ's has all that. But, it just didn't turn my crank. We walked thru the store picking up items, peering at labels and making funnies like we were strolling thru Chinatown gawking at all the street vendors. Call us boring, but we like our local Safeway over at Forum Center. All that being said, there is nothing inherently WRONG with Trader Joes. It's just not our speed and don't understand all the hype. But I guess that is what makes the world go round. We all have different likes and dislikes and it's why we have this forum. We have been back a couple times. In search of the specialty item we thought for sure they would have. It's been hit or miss. We did get a honey baked ham there last fall and it was mouth watering good. 10x better than the Costco variety. A couple other times we went with our previously mentioned foodie friend from LA who lives and dies by Trader Joes and we spent a fortune there for what we got. I about fell over at the price when we checked out. The two things I distinctly remember our foodie friend telling me to get: TJ's BBQ sauce and TJ's white wine mustard (their version of Grey Poupon). Both those items are still in my fridge a year and a half later. I've doled out the BBQ sauce on a few things but think Sweet Baby Ray's is 100x better. As for the mustard? Yikes...that stuff singes the hair off my nose. I've gone thru two or three Grey Poupon's in that time and have barely touched the top 1/4 of that TJ's brand. I will agree, the staff...their mission....the store....are all very nice. No complaints. So, if Trader Joes is your speed and you love it......I'm all for it. But it's not for everyone. Over the past year my wife and I have transitioned from being Safeway shoppers to being Trader Joe's/Wholefood shoppers with just an occasional stop at Safeway for food staples. What a wonderful transition at has been. Trader Joe's has a wonderful selection of good quality food items that are healthy and reasonably priced. It is also close to our home so rather than running to Safeway to pick up some Mission tortilla's, I run down to TJ and grab some TJ brand tortillas. They are better and about the same price (just one small example). The staff here is amazing and actually know about the products they sell and will without even pausing go check on the availability of something currently out of stock. If I can pick something up at TJ's now, that is where I buy it. A couple of our favorites are: TJ Sweet Tea, English Muffin Bread, English Farmhouse Cheddar, Two buck chuck, TJ Applewood Bacon, Organic Pink Lemonade, TJ Mexican shredded cheese, their little mini tacos. I could go on and on. Get out of the Safeway and Albertsons loop and explore a little. You will be glad you did. read more

I'm definitely a fan of Trader Joe's - - have been so for years. So I was happy when I saw the TJ's on 97 when I was rollin' into town. The store was definitely not as busy as most TJ's I've been to in CA. My only gripe was that they were out of my unsweetened Almond Milk. In fact, they had no unsweetened Almond Milk. Oh well. They had everything else though - - including a wall of the two-buck (now three buck) chuck. read more
