This full service grocery store has a great selection of everything from dry goods to freshly prepared foods to grab and go. Everything was well organized and prices were displayed and marked just below the products. They offer a rewards program for discounts on many different items. I did notice that they charge for paper and plastic bags for the groceries but I brought my own for the few things I was shopping for. The decor inside was very seasonal. I noticed mini pumpkins for under $1 and the fall festivities were well displayed. I also liked that I found some seasonal foods as well. read more

I just want to say how grateful I am to the Young person who works there named RJ. I was there today and needed help getting these water bottles. Right away, got a ladder and brought it out even though was already so busy. I liked the pins on the uniform with a cat and so I got to see photos of five beautiful cats. Worst deli service in Bend. Waited for 20 mins while being skipped in line due to the two women working the deli counter picking and choosing. I brought up that I've been skipped multiple times, and the response I received was "yep", and then was proceeded to be skipped again. This is embarrassing, and a recurring issue at this location. This was my first time visiting this store (I usually shop at the Century West Safeway) and I was verbally assaulted and threatened by the employee at the self-check area - all in response to my saying "jeezus christ" in frustration to having to repeat my transaction 5 times because their computer wasn't working. He responded "don't use my lord and savior's name in vain!" I responding calmly and to myself under under my breath "I can say what I want" and he aggressively grabbed my groceries (after I paid), swiped his card angrily at the register and said "you can leave. You're not welcome here. Please leave the store!" I was appalled and replied calmly "what? Are you seriously not giving my my groceries I just paid for because of your own religious beliefs?" He replied "yes!" I said "ok, I'd like to talk to a manager". He immediately and aggressively gave me my groceries and said "fine, here, take them you f-ing b-tch!" And as I walked away shaking my head, he yelled after me "and don't come back to this store or I'll call the police!" This altercation was witnessed by multiple other shoppers and even one of them checked if I was ok outside the store. I called once to my car after I calmed down (because I was so upset) and asked to speak to the store manager on duty. I was told she wasn't there but he'd take a message. I provided my name and cell phone and said I needed to report an employee who verbally assaulted me and threatened me. The man replied "well you verbally assaulted him too!!" And then said "I was the employee" and then he hung up on me. Of course the manager never called me because I can only assume he didn't pass on the message. The way that man snapped as soon as I said "jeezus christ" was scary - he does BOT belong in a customer service or retail position!! I am afraid to return to that store and am afraid of that employee who now has my name and cell phone number! This occurred between 5:45-6pm on 11/8/23. read more

I rarely ever go to this Safeway unless I am in the area and pressed for time. Today on my way way to UPS, I stopped by to get a few things. Everything went well until I got to the cashier. I was behind someone who was taking too long. Noticed that the express lane was open, so I proceeded to it with my 8 items. Wasn't entirely sure it was open because there was a staff standing in front of it, reading a form. She saw me coming her way and she averted her eyes to her paper. When I got close she, she looked at my cart and said "all vegetables?". I replied yes. She then says you're killing me! I do not have all these veggies memorized. I thought she was kidding but turned out she was not. Every time she rang an item, she reminds me how much I was killing her. She was obviously annoyed, very condescending. I was trying my best not to get mad at her. Then a man came and stood in line . Her voice got louder, maybe hoping to get sympathy from the gentleman? I do not know. Well, that man turned out to be my husband. When she realized we were together, her tone changed. My husband was ready to call a manager but I told him no, maybe the lady was just having a bad day. According to my receipt, her name is Marti. I am not sure what her problem is but in this uncertain times, we all need our jobs. Shout out to Brandon at the deli. I called and requested 2 veggie trays and 2 fruit trays for an event. Normally they want 48hrs notice but Brandon and the deli team prepared mine with a little more than 24 hrs notice. They looked beautiful! Fruit was fresh and sweet. Loved the humus with the veggies. PHARMACY: I've had several interactions with this pharmacy. They've refused to utilize my 'Just4U' as well as just had the pharmacist become irate with the tech for helping me while I'd been in line because it was NEARING their lunch break. They have also billed my insurance before I schedule pick up on my medications. Thus making it impossible for me to fill them anywhere else as they would not release the billing from my insurance company. read more

Please consider adding a couple self checkout kiosks. Even just 2 would help tremendously with the long lines. My girlfriend and I went to this location this morning. We are hikers, and bought over $170 worth of food supplies for the trail. I decided to overlook the fact that this facility reeked of rotten eggs and there was only one checkout lane open. These things happen. We went outside to a shaded spot under the overhang to organize our supplies and quickly eat our lunch that we had purchased there in the shade, out of the way of the entrance. While we were there, a bunch of corporate suits came out and held some sort of cheesy photo-op and shook up bottles of Mountain Dew like champagne, tossing some of the soda on us. I could even overlook that. What I can't overlook is the rent-a-cop who then confronted us, next to our shopping cart full of food that we clearly bought, and told us we had to leave like we were some panhandling hobos. He could have struck a friendly conversation and understood the situation easily and quickly, but instead chose to confront paying customers. This was unnecessary and left a bad taste in my mouth, and I will do my utmost to inform the other 3000+ hikers a year that pass through this town to avoid this location and not get harassed like we did. read more

A few months back, an employee accused me of "pretending to go to the bathroom" to someone on his walkie-talkie while standing on the other side of the door. After I resumed shopping near the front of the store, the female employee who he was presumably talking to awkwardly shuffled herself in front of the entrance, as if to block me and my brother from leaving with the imaginary stolen goods the security guard had informed her of. This Safeway is plagued with very long lines and a lack of customer service on the floor. Supervisor Pam was very rude and when we asked questions about store hours and marked down products she was very snarky and rude. She complained about the discount stickers and belittled us for commenting on the hour changes. When bagging our items she just tossed them down and the items rolled and spilled out of the bag and I had to quickly grab them. The deli is always under staffed, even before Covid-19. The employees hide in the back and hope you just get tired waiting. You have to ask the person serving the prepare food if you can get some help. When you finally get some to help you and ask to have some meat sliced, they will tell you the slicer is down. I live close to this store but usually go to the west side store, it's night and day how they operate. Ok, how can you give a food store one star? Well let's start. They sell less and less fresh food and more and more "prepared" foods. Sounds simple, but they are selling you high profit low nutrition food. You can barely find the staples in the food store, think that's by chance? Oh no, make it very difficult to find nutritious food but super easy to get a box of food or a corn dog( with 20% off jojo's). Ok, I'm ranting. My straw that broke the camel' back moment was today... 19 in line(we counted), 2 checkers! And one was the express lane. Safeway is a public corporation (swy)equity NYSE. Just to preface - this is a review for the pharmacy portion of this store only. I was working in Bend for a few weeks, and with late hours and lots of stress, I understandably fell ill. I came here for a few days straight getting advice from a super-helpful pharmacist on OTC meds, until my doctor phoned in a prescription from NY and really got me sorted. Maybe I'm too used to short NY interactions, but when a pharmacist actually asks you if you need guidance on the medication instead of throwing a bag in your face...I'm grateful. read more

Since Safeway is my go-to grocery store at home, I was able to navigate this store quickly and get everything we needed for a few days. This is my neighborhood grocery store and it serves it purpose. There are definitely much better stores in bend and even better Safeway stores. Overall it seems like the 3rd Ave Safeway is the disliked step child of the stores in Bend, lacking in some of the basic upgrades the other stores have gotten and generally less options for organic and natural foods. It also seems like they have far less staff scheduled during busy hours than needed and the staff has a heavy burden because lines get long. However, everyone on staff is super friendly and positive the majority of the time which helps make the experience better. read more

My daughter just got off work at the Pharmacy at 642 NE 3rd St, Bend, OR 97701. She has worked at the pharmacy part time and full time for almost 2 years. She has be an employee of Safeway for over 12 years. Today she was told that she was going to have to train a new girl in the Pharmacy. She had put in for this job months back when she learned one of the clerks was moving away from bend. The Pharmacy manager told her she could have the position of the person that is leaving . The store manager went ahead and hired a new person that has never worked at Safeway and that has never worked in a Pharmacy. She came home crying and was really upset. She really needed that position and had been waiting for over a month to get it. If the store manager doesn't fix this problem I will be outside the store every day to protest this. read more

We came here to get some snacks for the drive back home and some brew that we liked. I went to grab some spoons for our ice cream while he checked out in the express lane. The cashier wouldn't scan him until I came back because she said she needed to see my ID too. First, we are both old. 10+ years old enough to buy it and I'm not necessarily drinking it. They don't card kids so why make everyone behind him wait until I come back (and I was waiting for him to come to me, but noticed it was taking awhile) to scan the stuff? I am a regular shopper and have no issues with the product, service or prices. However I don't appreciate the bums that hang out in front or in the seating area in front for customers. I've been asked for money more than once. I understand they can't just ask people to leave but if they are a issue with customers? Extremely rascist encounter with the heavyset lady with dyed blone hair at the self checkout machine today. I was checking out when the machine said I needed assistance, she was nowhere to be found and no one was in sight so I waited and when she showed up I needed her help again because the bi-color corn doesn't scan, she asked me what the price was I told her $4 she looked at the package and said no these ones are $5. I said I don't think they are I'll go back and check, so I went and lo and behold $4. I come back and tell her it's $4 after waiting to use another self checkout she tells me she's going to call it in she believes me but she's has to call it in. I say obviously you don't you can walk 2 steps and just look and verify it but she said it's policy she can't leave there. She called it in, it came back as $4 but by then I just said I don't want the corn, I really should have just left but I needed water and I've never had any other issues and I do like the staff overall it's just disappointing and annoying. read more

This safeway sucks. Expect to wait in a long line. I spend more time waiting in line than I do shopping because they usually only have ONE checker at night. It's a total joke there.
