Dear Trader Joe's, I was so very excited to see that you opened a store in Bend. Now when I visit my family, I can actually shop at a decent store and find things that I'm used to - the Super WalMart just doesn't cut it for me. It's like having a piece of home with me when I'm there. Thank You, S So why isn't this place busier? I usually have to plow people out of the way to get anywhere in my Trader Joe's. The quality is high, the prices are affordable and there are many unique items. For example, when I made a Mediterranean meal for my family, I knew this store was my only option in this area. Beyond the food items, the wine selection is what I appreciate about Trader Joe's. The employees were all very friendly and the shopping experience is great. Check it out! Unique food at a reasonable price. I love that you can get truffle oil cheese, movie theater popcorn, both inexpensive and Kendall Jackson wine and dark chocolate coated almonds. Yum yum yum! Now I'm a huge TJ's fan- I shop at the one near my place about once a week. This one seemed a bit off for me, not sure. It just seemed really crowded with stuff.... like the space was too small for all the food/goodies in the store. I almost felt a little claustrophobic in the aisles, but I could be crazy. read more

This is my go-to market with great prices and helpful staff. My favorite items are definitely the marinated artichoke hearts and the rosemary lemon spatchcock. Anything I can't find at TJ's, I conveniently find next door at Food for Less. read more

I'm not one to do all my shopping in one store. Trader Joe's in Bend is right next to the Food4Less and there's things I'd just naturally buy at one or the other of those places. One of my go-to items at Trader Joes' is the frozen French green beans. I keep a regular supply of them in my freezer. Also, they have some good wines from the Iberian peninsula that are way cheaper than anywhere else. Not necessarily the finest quality, but they'll definitely do. Next time there'll be something else. read more

Usually go the TJs in Princeton NJ but am visiting in Oregon and had to get my coffee! In this land of coffee I still had to get my TJs decaf and gring it fresh at the store. Saw some interesting olive oils and nuts we dont have at home. Juts great consistent quality across the board and love their policy of accepting returns of NAY item you dont like, even if half gone, for a full refund. Oh and the staff is always friendly and outgoing, and will even research an item for you if they dont know all the details. 5 stars! read more

I like TJ's because of all the different types of food you cannot find at other grocery stores. The checkers are all usually nice and helpfull. Multi vitamin is good and affordable, good supply of nuts and dried fruit, I am forgeting all the other great stuff you just have to stop by for yourself if you have never been there. read more

Have always liked TJ's but they just went up a whole bunch. Their approach to customer care is excellent. If one wants to know about a certain item they're not hesitant to open a package for you to try. But--yesterday my wife was in the Bend location, in the process of checking out Elizabeth the team member who was scanning the items bumped a container with displayed items over, spilling the packages. My wife picked them up and put them back. No big deal. Elizabeth rang the bell and said something to another member. After the pleasantries were ending a beautiful bouquet of flowers were handed to her with a sincere thanks for doing that. Goes to show TJ's level of customer appreciation. OK , I'm not a 2 buck chuck kinda guy. I like both the not so cheap and the not so cheap good stuff. Trader Joe's has made such a name -- Talk about cult branding with a faithful following. Pros: Typically TJ with all the great products and such. We've lived in Central Oregon for many years and missed the TJ's of Southern California. Same basic layout but new products and choices. Their vegetarian product line is great and much expanded. Cons: Still small store. I wonder what their sales per square feet is? We'll be back! read more

Ok, I've been in quite a few Trader Joe's throughout Oregon, Nevada and California but NEVER have I experienced customer service like this. While vacationing in Bend, we stopped in today 4/27/12 and bought many groceries. My daughter and I looked for the lobster so she could claim her prize at the cash register (all TJ's do this...the kid announces where Moto Monkey, Turtle Joe, Lobster, etc. is in the store and they get a piece of candy or stickers). We found the lobster near the yogurt section and made our way to the register to pay for over $100 of groceries. My daughter was so excited, but the checkout guy said we'd have to go tell the woman at the free food section about finding the lobster, as she did the prizes. So we get out of line, find the free food lady in the back and my daughter gleefully announces she found the lobster. The employee insisted there were 2 lobsters we had to find, not one. Geez....really? So now my daughter is upset and we set across the store to find 2nd lobster for what seems like forever. Another little boy was looking for it, too, and his mom said they couldn't find the second one either. We ended up leaving without finding it, but we still purchased the groceries. Thanks free food lady for dampening the spirits of my 5 year old... you suck. Glad I've never experienced poor customer service at any of my local TJ locations in Portland. We do not have Trader Joe's where we live, but we have heard SO many positive thins about the chain, so it was a treat to find one close to where we are staying here in Bend. After shopping there for dinner last night, I will not be looking for any more! As a starter, we were really surprised to find no fresh meat in the store. All the cuts of meat are prepackaged in little plastic cartons, and I am always suspicious of these things from a freshness standpoint. Nonetheless, we picked up a package of filet mignon that ended up being the least flavorful and toughest I have ever had! How do you have tough filet? We accompanied that with fingerling potatoes, which we prepared very simply with EVO and sea salt. One again, completely underwhelmed! I don't ask a lot of fingerling potatoes but it would be nice if they tasted like potatoes. These had essentially no taste whatsoever, turning to a paste-like substance in your mouth. We have never had such a bland potato before. We were completely underwhelmed at the spice selection in the store - which meant we had to go to another grocery store close by - which turned out just fine because there were several other things on our shopping list unavailable at TJ's, and while comparison shopping we also found out how much more expensive the basic things are at TJ's. Then at the register, just before we got up to the line (I was taking extra time in the wine aisle) they closed up the only open checkout lane. A nice man reopened it quickly, but who shuts down all the checkout lanes in a grocery store? Even Walmart at two in the morning keeps at least ONE lane open! The one positive thing was the wine we chose for dinner! We picked up a Trader Joe's labeled Napa Cabernet reserve (which goes a little against my grain, but again, I had heard positive things about the TJ'S branded wines) and this time we scored! Dinner may have been a downer, but the wine almost made up for it...In fact, it did! We will just go back to Newport Avenue Market for everything else... read more

This Trader Joe's store opened within a month after I moved to Bend. Coming from northwest Oregon, which has several Trader Joe's stores, I was happy to see that one was opening in Bend. They sell lots of high-quality and unique foods, much of which is their own brand. This, as well as their nice atmosphere and friendly employees, sets Trader Joe's apart from more traditional grocery stores. read more

I'm Thai and moved to sunriver, Bend in 2007. I didn't know Trader Joes until my hubby told me it was going to be one in Bend. I love it the first day I went there. I mostly shopped at Whole Food before Trader Joes were opened. Now it's the other way round. I shopped mostly at Trader Joes and occasionally at Whole Food for some items. And that's because Trader Joes has a lot of healthy, organic food with a much lower price compare to Whole food, good cheap wine (for my hubby) and very friendly and helpful staffs. I also get food for my cats here. They are real good food with lower price compare to Petco. My daughter loves the cookie dough and the organic mango juice that they have. Their organic pasta sauces are so good and cost less than 3 bucks. Most of all, and it'sthe reason why I'm writing this review is that, while other grocery stores raised their price already, oviously at Costco (about 25%), Trader Joes continues to keep the same price for everything (I think, or at least the stuffs I usually buy). And I would like Trader Joes's Management Team to know that I really appreciate it. My wage hasn't gone up a bit, so it really helps me a lot to keep shopping for good and healthy food. Everytime I get to make homemade orgaic juice and putting organic salad on the table for my family and myself, I feel so blessed that I am still lucky to be able to have good food. And Trader Joes is a big part of it heping me able to do that. read more

This Trader Joe's was packed the day we went. Wasn't able to spend much time here but everything seemed pretty standard. They have done a great job at improving their gluten free labeling on their products and on signs within the store. Got lots of yummy Trader Joe's snacks to take home. read more

I have been very pleased with the service I receive at Trader Joes. I purchase custom meat. The Service people go out of their way to help me. They have printed up lists for me of the products they can purchase and have delivered to their store. They call me when the order comes in. They are all so friendly, more so than other grocery stores I have gone to. I love their products and healthy emphasis that you will find there. I highly recomend them. read more

Thank goodness Trader Joes came to Bend right before we moved here! I spent so many years driving hundreds of miles to do a "run." I even packaged up some of their frozen fish and flew it home on an airplane once! So how wonderful to finally have it just across town! I always call Trader Joe's "budget gourmet." They have healthy, tasty stuff at very reasonable prices. From sweet and salty snacks, to sauces, to meat and produce to drinks, they pretty much have it all. Sometimes a favorite item can be discontinued or "unavailable at the warehouse" which is a bit disappointing. But overall I'm a huge fan. I agree with the other post that TJ's doesn't always have stuff I like. But they joyfully take anything back, and the amount of stuff I do like far outweighs the few things I don't. I don't drink, so can't comment on the wine. But that's what got TJ's started in LA way back when. They told us they will likely never go to Colorado because of the strict liquor laws there. But fortunately I don't have to worry about that anymore! read more

Great quality groceries with some of the lowest prices in town! It's always a bummer though when you go the night they are restocking though because there is literally nothing on their shelves. Having never been to a Trader's before, I (like many folks who have lived in Central Oregon forever) thought it was probably like Whole Foods or Newport Market. However, it does differ in one major way....you can save a ton of money shopping at Trader's. Whether you want to compare prices item by item or just pick staples like milk, eggs, lettuce, snacks, nuts, cereal, wine, etc. you will not be disappointed in what you save. If you require 10 kinds of everything, you might be disappointed, but when the one kind of ketchup is organic and you can pronounce everything on the label, who needs the other 9 choices? It saves me a ton of money!!! read more

I do some of my shopping here and the rest at other places in town, depending on what I'm getting and how much time I have to putz around at the grocery store on a Sunday afternoon (hint: not much time at all!). I've found that Trader Joe's has the best prices and selection for frozen foods, so I tend to stock up when I go there. I've found that often there isn't much of a difference in overall price between doing a week's worth of shopping at Trader Joe's vs. Whole Foods, but for some reason, I FEEL like I'm getting a better deal at Trader Joe's. I think they have a great way of making their prices fool you just a bit. When something is $3.99, for instance, you might feel like it's closer to $3 than to $4. And adding those little "extras" to your cart just seems to happen more at Trader Joe's than other places. One suggestion that I can make is to try their coconut chocolate covered almonds - but beware: you may just eat half the container in one sitting! They're just that good. read more

This is my go-to for almost all of my grocery shopping. I have four guys at home to feed and this store gives me the best bang for my buck, all the while getting fresh, organic, local, excellent, and fair priced food. They have a huge variety of gluten free, dairy free, nut free, etc.... to choose from --accommodating everyone in my household's diet needs. And the people here are the cream of the crop. Friendly.
