I have gone to Tracy's regularly for many years, at least once every 5 weeks for the past few years. While originally the best place in Santa Cruz for nails, they have significantly & unfortunately gone downhill in terms of quality & service, with some workers being quite rude. It is a hit or miss at this point, with some of the workers being extremely rude when trying to express what you want, or making mistakes (such as uneven nail lengths, or not even being able to provide the requested service). Sometimes my nails look great, other times they look very bad. The quality of workers is very inconsistent. When attempting to voice the issue to be fixed, with several different workers on different occasions, the workers' attitudes have been rude and sometimes combative. Very poor service. Service can also often be very slow. There have been times that the quality of the work is good, but it has become increasingly poor over the years, with several recent visits being quite unpleasant. I really wouldnt recommend the business to anyone at this point, but there are times the service is ok, & that's why I give it 3 stars & return on occasion. read more

So I've been looking for a new nail place since moving in from LA. I decided to do a last minute walk in appointment for manicure and pedicure. It was busy when I arrived, but they still squeezed me in where they could. I did get passed from tech to tech unfortunately, but I completely understood since they all had previous appointments. I also had damage done to my nail bed from the last salon I went to, so I thought my nails would be harder to work with. But the techs here were so nice! The first tech I had was extremely cautious and gentle without even needing to point out my nail beds, and brought back the shape of my nails with hard gel perfectly!!! That was HUGE for me. The other techs also recommend a perfect color match for my reference photo and did a wonderful job replicating it. I wish I remembered everyone's name. My services took a few hours due to the busy schedule and differentiating staff, but they all apologized for the switch ups and were extremely kind throughout my whole experience. I expected a larger total at the end but I think they adjusted my pricing as an additional apology and I was pleasantly surprised/appreciative. Honestly I wish I tipped more. It was an overall positive experience and I would love to cycle through some of their techs to see who's the right match for me. Definitely will be coming back again! read more

Came in for a gel removal only and the nail tech buzzed off all the gel plus half my natural nail leaving me with paper thin nails. So thin they are constantly splitting and breaking and are very painful. We also had a few pedicures here and I would not recommend. What a bad experience. The first lady started my pedicure and barely pushed back and trimmed my cuticles. Then another lady took over and butchered my pedicure with a painful massage and smeared up polish. The manicure was worse! If you're into pain, ask for Cindy. She'll make your cuticles sting when she pours acetone directly onto your nails. Then she'll make your face cringy with a painful massage. I placed a $20 bill on the table to get change for the tip and she took off with it thinking it was all for her. WTH? Never coming back! read more

I go for the pedicures with 25 minute massage. What I really want is a good, solid foot and leg massage. They usually deliver, but sometimes you''l get a technician who just kind of swirls their hands around while chating with another tech. The manicures and pedicures are very solid. read more

The quality of the manicure is usually pretty solid - but the price reflects that so it's not a cheap place. Kind of hit and miss depending who you get though too. However they are sllloowwww as molasses sometimes. Today it took THREE AND A HALF HOURS for a mani/pedi for one person. We are leaving for a trip and came here to get ready for it real quick and somehow it took an entire afternoon when we had 100 other things to do. They also forgot about her for about 30-40 mins while her tech disappeared - we think to have lunch. Sure wish we could have eaten since it was such a long session but nope. Never offered water. Never offered a snack. Never offered a bathroom break. Just 3.5 hours straight with 3 diff people. None of whom spoke very good English. Which is usually whatever - we don't care. But when it's that long, it was just awkward silence and not very relaxing. Then they tried to blame us! Saying we should have told them we need a two hour slot for nails themselves - or i dunno maybe you could ASK THE CUSTOMER when they make the reservation??? So we've been here a bunch of times and made a res - but still felt like a random yahoo walk-in who was a bother for daring to have things we needed done at the place that does those things. I always go here for my gel manicure. I never was a fan of their pedicures. It's always sloppy, I wonder why. The pedicurist just dolloped on the top coat instead of painting it on. Maybe it was the certain pedicurist, but I've had others with same result. I'll just go somewhere else for that. Their manicures are great! read more

For the white set I asked for a soak off of gel with no nail cut as it's a natural nail and wanted just a chrome white. She proceeded to cut my pinky nail and only said sorry as she thought I was joking that they were natural nails. I paid $110 for both sets. The nail techs continuously asked for a tip, saying "$10 tip? Or more." Tips are not to be expected, and should be at customers discretion not the nail tech. For this to be a salon and not a new nail tech the prices are cheap, however the work is cheap. I will never recommend this place to anyone ever again. Go to Paris nails in SV instead. read more

I will not be back, nor will I ever recommend this place. It just happens to be in a busy location. This is my final time giving Tracy's a chance. Everyime I get my nails done here, they don't even hold up a week. The nail techs purposely leave a gap at the bottom so you come back sooner. They rush through even if you book an appointment. The Lines are never clean or straight. Also the nail techs buff your nails down so much that your nails become week and break. Lastly the GEL polish is bumpy meaning it is old or watered down. I asked for a simple squiggle design on 1 nail and they said they could do it, but completely butchered it. Whenever I asked for revision, they became upset to the point where I just said F it, paid and left. Here are my nails not even a week later. I work an office job, they shouldn't be cracking/breaking or chipping less than one week. BTW this is GEL polish. Everyone is well trained! Clean! Massage chairs! High quality service! This time I got an ombré dip manicure and I LOVE how it came out! I take one star away because my sister and I tried to walk in on a Saturday and were told it would be a 20 min wait for pedicures, they sat us right away and had us start soaking. And there we sat ... for 45 min in cold water with no recognition. When we walked out they just said "sorry...." quietly as we left ... I get it was busy but they didn't acknowledge our existence in the chairs or update the timing. BUT we tried it again that Wednesday and walked in, And we're helped immediately. I had a wonderful woman named Kim. She was sweet, gave a great massage, and my pedicure turned out really nicely. I will return for her. So I would say don't try to walk in on a weekend, or make a reservation. They are well and priced and busy because of it. read more

Got a mani/pedi here this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. We didn't have an appointment on a Sunday, but still we're able to get 2 seats immediately even with a packed house. I got a gel manicure with a regular pedi. The scrub and massage for my pedi was lovely, and the manicure was above and beyond! They gave me a back massage after finishing my hands?! My 17yr old went to get her acrylics done here and the tech completely mutilated her fingers. I could not believe what they did when she came home in tears. The tech would not stop or let her leave when she complained!! Even though her fingers were bleeding. I had to clean her fingers and do wound care and she was in pain for days. This is against the law!!! First, they cannot cut and draw blood and second, they cannot stop a person from leaving! My daughter couldn't remember the tech's name and I couldn't find her later when I tried. But I'm going to keep researching to consider legal action and because this person must be reported to the board of cosmetology. If you are daring enough to go here I recommend you know the name of your nail tech immediately, if they draw blood or hurt you, stop the service and walk away. then consider contacting the board of cosmetology. What they are doing is against the law and wrong!! Oh and to add insult to injury one nail fell of like 3 days after she got them and a week out she has less than half left!!! Please tell me who does great pedicures here. I just had one done by Ellen which was very haphazard. She burned my skin off when using the electric file and barely trimmed any cuticles or scrubbed. She was rough/aggressive and just plain seemed like she didn't want to be there. The massage was not 20 min long as advertised. I normally would have given a $10 tip for this service but I asked the receptionist to break my $10 and gave her $5. I just couldn't justify giving her a full tip. She just took it out of my hand and didn't even acknowledge me or say thanks. This was my first time here. The front desk lacked customer service, and I was incredibly disappointed in my $45 dollar (plus tip) manicure. It looks like she didn't even touch my cuticles, and the nail polish looks old and is already starting to chip after an hour. The pedicure and manicure came with a 25 min massage but they did not give 25 min. I watched as they hounded customers for a tip. One customer had 4 different people working on her and her daughter (which they did not ask for, the workers were just shuffling around from person to person) and they asked this woman to give each person a tip, which she kindly did but how is that fair? I don't understand why this place is crowded. Surely, there are better places. Also, they asked me to pay before I received my manicure. She did do a decent job on my toes so I obliged but my nails did not turn out so nicely. I found Tracys nails through a recommendation at the mall across the street. I first went in about a month ago. I had a broken nail and they were prompt in finding me somebody to fix it. I didn't catch her name, but she was at table 2 very sweet and helpful, I am from the Bay Area and now make a special trip to Capitola to have my nails and toes done. I have a really hard time feeling comfortable in salons with a lot of people, but this salon is very warm and friendly, beautifully decorated and everyone is so nice I did not have an appointment but they were able to get me in. I had a pedicure done that was amazing And a fill Heidi did my fill She was funny joked with me and made me feel very comfortable. I've been coming here for years and treated my mom in law to a mani. The polish started to bubble and pop up. I understand it's the brand or color we chose now. But I spent over $200 for us. I went back in and told them what happened and wanted a color change. They said the nails look fine and that it's our fault basically for choosing this color. Told me it would be extra 15$ so I paid $20, then she changed her mind to $10 extra. It's a joke. This salon workers are trying to get out of the door ASAP don't come here if you want to enjoy yourself or spoil yourself. Very disappointed, asked for a simple manicure with emphasis on cuticles and cleaning, to take off my existing gel, rounded shape, and a good buff. Take a look for yourself what I was left with! Gel left behind in all corners, cuticles were not pushed down, and then butchered. My nail beds look like sand paper from the course texture (hard to see in photos). The shape is square, and she cut the corners of my nails way too low, which creates hangnails. I have been going here for years. This is new from my personal experience. When I confronted the front desk, she got the owner to come talk to me. I offered to go to the side and talk more privately. Instead, she raised her voice in front of everyone and caused a scene. I told her to take a look for herself and tell me this was a good job...I said I don't think it's fair to pay for this. She insisted and did not consider the poor quality work. We (three of us) made an appointment 3 days in advance for mani pedis, and they sat us quickly for the manicures. However, the girl doing my nails was rushed and didn't let me look at them before she moved onto the next step. By the end, they weren't done well and it was too late to fix them; they're very sloppy and they don't look good. We sat for another 15min waiting for open pedicure chairs. By this time we had already been there for 90min so we just left. Frustrating experience overall, none of us will be back. I've been coming here for years and I'm so sad to say that I don't think I'll be coming back. The last three times I've come for a manicure I have been cut and have literal chunks of the side of my finger that have been taken off with the cuticle clippers. I'm not sure why, but the cuticle clippers have been being used to cut away parts of the finger skin at the top of the fingers no where near the cuticle line. The nail shaping has also become interesting where they no longer ask your preference and make it a rounded crooked oval. When you try to ask them to fix the crooked shape or to not cut any more it's typically met with a kick "ok" and then nothing changes. Sad to go, but I can't hang with the throbbing nail pain anymore. read more

I am shocked by the amount of positive reviews this place gets. I didn't realize how huge the facility was, it felt like making an appointment was obsolete. I sat down with my nail tech and she began digging at my old set with tips to get them off, which I have never seen happen before at a nail salon and caused my fingers to bleed. I told her to stop and that I didn't want her services and I will go somewhere else. She continued against my request and gave me the thickest and most difficult to remove set I have ever had. This experience was enough to convince me to never get my nails done at a salon again. read more
