The girls at the front know the kittens up for adoption very well. A young man recommended a particular rat when I was looking to purchase one as a pet. See a picture of Sniffy below! This rat really had a very sweet disposition. I didn't expect that young man to be so familiar with the animals when the many rats are likely destined to be snake food. I also had good luck finding medicine for kennel cough relief when Petco and Petsmart were out of stock. I didn't have as much luck looking for any outdoor dog kennels. They had a pretty limited selection due to external events. But the staff was very helpful. In terms of animals I've seen kittens, rats, mice, and chicks available. But it's not like 20 years ago when they had rabbits, budgies, and other small pets. I've heard from other dog owners they have events like photos with Santa and I've seen a long line for the mobile vet events. During the wildfires a year ago Western Ranch hosted a donation event. It may be a bit more expensive but it feels good to know I'm supporting a locally owned store that cares about its community.

Had we been given accurate and consistent information from the outset, we would not have made the trip. Mistakes and misunderstandings happen. What distinguishes good customer service is how a business responds when they do. Here, the service was indifferent at best, and when we pointed out the contradictory information we had been given, the owner responded with hostility rather than any attempt to understand or address the problem. The most basic expectation a customer should have is that information provided by a business is reasonably accurate and consistent. Based on our experience, that is not an expectation I would have here. I would not recommend this store.

Eddie happened to be an expert in all things regarding our tank size, the water, the plants... And we even made a few mistakes in our assessment of what we needed. Once again... Eddie to the rescue. This young man could easily wind up a professor of biological sciences with his incredible knowledge of these subjects. We were pointed in the direction of what was needed, and the luck in finding sale prices could not be beat. Thank you to the wonderful staff at your local Fairfield Petco. We signed up for Petco in Fairfield's puppy classes yesterday, first off the trainer was over 15…read moreminutes late ! Then we did not have the proper form for the vaccinations. The trainer informing us was beyond rude. She treated my rescued dog as if he was a second class citizen. I understand that they require a certain paperwork, which is fine, but don't be rude about it. When the trainers manager showed up, she was just as rude. Both ladies look like they just crawled out of bed and we were bothering them. We asked for a refund and will be taking our puppy training classes, somewhere else where they respect all animals and their owners.

I've shopped both stores and the Emeryville store. The Fairfield store is the winner by miles. I will be shopping there when ever I can and avoiding the Corte Madera store that is a literal and figurative rat hole. In comparison Fairfield's fish department was beautiful and bright. Corte Madera's had 1 tank where the fish were visible, the rest were too dirty to see the fish and full of dead fish.

First time the groomer was "sick" and I got rescheduled for like a week later and then the groomer "had to have emergency surgery" meaning I had to get rescheduled again. I was rescheduled for today and was called again because this time "the groomer has norovirus". I will not be rescheduling again. The individuals running this grooming department are either the unluckiest and unhealthiest individuals alive, or flat lying and I'd bet on the latter at this point. Don't waste your time trying to schedule here. I also book with any groomer and not a specific individual. 2 stars because when they have been groomed the dogs looked decent.
