For context, I worked at a tea shop for five years, there's many ups and downs throughout working in this specific industry but if we really wanted to compare it to the greater giants of the food industry, it doesn't come close to our typical big chain restaurants. That said, my most recent experience at 3CAT left a different impression. I've visited in the evenings before, and while the service was just okay, I chalked it up to the typical fast-paced, no-frills service you often see at busy Chinese restaurants. This visit was different. I came in around 1:00 p.m. on a Tuesday. The store had only been open for about an hour, and there were no other customers. I simply asked for a cup of fructose from the dispenser. The staff member, who appeared to be the shift lead, asked what sugar level I wanted. I was a little confused because the fructose dispenser is labeled with pump settings, there's numbers on there depicting sugar levels. 1 pump is typically 5-10ml depending how it's configured so I asked for two pumps since my friend didn't expect her drink to be too light on sweetness. That is all. The exchange shouldn't have been some sort of awkward moment. However, the staff paused, looked at me like I had said something unreasonable, rolled her eyes, and asked again what sugar level I wanted. So I responded based off their sugar level system. I completely understand that working in food service can be mentally exhausting, but there was no rush at the time, and the interaction felt unnecessarily dismissive. Whatever may have been going on, customers shouldn't be made to feel like they're an inconvenience for asking a simple request.

I prefer the caramel flavors so the Era is my favorite but black tea is so diverse and no one exemplifies that more than Brian black tea. The caffeine level was very high, but it did not have the strength of taste associated with tea that is made to make iced tea (double the amount of leaves). I've always associated such with the more broken up grades of tea like BOP.

UG is the best tea spot in the plaza. And they give back to the environment by planting trees!!! I am not a matcha girly, so I waited until I picked up my friend from the airport and gave her their next level matcha to try (need something to beat the jetlag) and she loved it! She is a matcha connoisseur and having just returned from a trip to Asia, I knew her standards would be high, and yet she so enjoyed it. Personally I am a rare tea girly and UG is the place to go for that. There's no other place I've had rice milk tea and it is so good. Very tea forward. I think a lot of new places struggle with their balance of milk and tea and try to mask it with whipped cream or cheese crema but UG has got it down without all the fluff. Their hibiscus tea is my second favorite even though I don't usually go for fruity teas. The camellia is also very nice. You really just can't go wrong with any of their teas. My partner is a sweet-loving guy and he really likes the honeydew melon drink! It's so nostalgic and because it is not too sweet, it's sooo good. I love ordering my drink which comes out in just a few minutes and then sitting outside at their tables and reading my book. I used to frequent the other very popular tea place next to the plaza's supermarket. But I don't go there anymore. The lines are excessive, the in app ordering is always turned off, the workers are overworked, and there is barely any seating and absolutely no restroom. Where others fall short, UG tea surpasses expectations.

Outstanding caramel-like flavor from the Sri Lankan tea, whole milk (not powder), and lighter amount of sugar. Mango Orange smoothie was great for the kids, tasted natural and not too sweet. Jasmine Iced Tea with no sugar and green tea jelly was refreshing and brewed right (not bitter). Will definitely come here again, and hopefully we'll see more Milksha locations in the Bay Area.
